Through all the frustration and anger, I have to somewhat laugh at the fact that the first two pitchers in our regional final game were Hudson Hamilton and Ethan Walker. Imagine telling someone that b

csb/Our high school shortstop played with his Dad's glove from the early 60s.  His Dad played at aggy and for the Dodgers.  It was a lot bigger than that, and very heavily padded.  Very flat.  Easy transfer, probably hard to scrape a ball off the ground.  A lot like this

Less of a pocket, because I guess that's an outfielder's glove

And before you snide lil whippersnappers chirp up, this was in the 80s.  Our 2B played a small HOH Wingtip, but he'd broken it it in so flat it probably played really similar.  They were the two best players on our team./csb

I knew the catch probability on this ball was low, didn’t know it was that low

The most impressive thing about that play is that Borba stayed put and didn’t get thrown out at third after a late attempt to tag.

That glove is from the 80’s?

Reading is fundamental

Joe Morgan, one of the greatest second baseman of all time, used a very small glove like most second baseman did or still do.

Not just small, but a very shallow pocket, really shallower than shown there.  I never played any infield except 3B, but the two guys mentioned above basically caught most things two-handed and used the glove to kind of "knock down" the ball to have it drop into their meat hand for the throw.  Especially apparent with Jamie's really old school glove.

that was basically the game.  our 2nd worst hitter, probably 7-3 with Flores on 3rd and no one out.  In the stadium, as I watched it I said he's fucking going to run that down. he actually didn't really have to dive.  he caught it while he was running and dove just to help him stop.

Beast of a play and was absolutely the dagger to our hearts.  That ended it.
