June 1Jun 1 Written and directed by Guillermo del Toro, FRANKENSTEIN is on Netflix this November. Starring Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, with Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz. Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro adapts Mary Shelley’s classic tale of Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation

There's been people saying it was appropriate to release it in November, and I'm not sure why. edit: figured it out: "It was on a dreary night of November that I beheld my man completed ... The cast is great as well. I hope the buzz builds enough that it ends up in theaters. Edited June 4Jun 4 by atomheartbevo

June 4Jun 4 Even the tagline of only monsters play god is reminiscent of the book, as Shelley never calls him the monster, only the creature.
October 18Oct 18 Saw this last night at the Paris theater on 58th next to Bergdorf. It was visually stunning, and while all the acting was great, both Mia Goth and Jacob Elordi put in stunning performances.
October 22Oct 22 Dang I just cancelled Netflix too, this is the ONE thing I would want to watch on that platform.

October 22Oct 22 My name ... it's pronounced Frahnkensteen. This looks awesome. Bought tickets for Alamo for Saturday.

Alamo up here in Dallas offered free tickets in return for buying $5 in food/drink credits for testing a new ordering system. We're going tonight.

November 6Nov 6 I went today to catch it in theaters before it went to just streaming. I thought it was fine. It was a Del Toro movie, so it was visually terrific and the technical aspects were all top notch. I just found it kind of uninteresting and Mia Goth was miscast. I read a review afterwards that called it "inert", which seems like a good word for it.

I didn't quite understand how they ended up at the North Pole (is that from the book?) but it was still worth the watch. I would recommend you watch it in the theater, or at least on a very big screen if you're going to watch it on Netflix after tonight.
November 24Nov 24 Without spoiling anything in the first post, it is visually amazing and a very good movie. But it does deviate from the novel in some significant ways. I enjoyed it and expect to enjoy it more on a second viewing when I'm not caught off-guard by the changes. Definitely recommend it. Edited November 24Nov 24 by TexArcher
November 24Nov 24 I’d say it does well to fit into a decent run time and tell the story. But there is the one big idea where gdt just couldn’t help himself.

I don't know what to think of this movie to be honest. It's half cheese, half interesting. It's like if The Prestige and Twilite had a baby called Twilite Prestige: Dawn of Frankenstein had a film baby.

November 25Nov 25 I loved the book and appreciated the artistic effort Del Toro put into this movie. It was visually stunning, and as a horror junkie, I think I enjoyed it more than most here. What I do agree with others in was Mia Goth being poorly cast in this film. She didn't have the real depth needed to pull it off for my taste. I'm not sure I loved the writing/directing of her part either so perhaps not all on her. It's a critical role and it fell short in my opinion.

Was reading letterbox and Reddit and was surprised to find the biggest problem people had was with christoph waltz character and the writing in of his character and role. Funny to see people turning on him as a one trick pony and the “all he does is play christoph waltz in every movie”.

He didn't stand out to me so can't say I agree with that take. I mean the character was written as a bit of a scum bag with very questionable motives so while it wasn't pure evil, it wasn't that much of a departure from that role either. So.. my take is some people likely have a hard time making that distinction crossed with he wasn't outstanding either. Edited November 25Nov 25 by BurntEyes
