I know prices haven't been released for 2026, but do any of y'all recall what you paid for 2025?

Some notes someone posted on IT from the Texas One Fund event last night with Schloss and the rest of the staff:

-First day of practice was yesterday - too early to tell how the freshmen will do

-Pitching staff should be one of the best in baseball with our returners

-ARod back pounding the ball from both sides of the plate (also was mentioned later on down the thread that he is getting a real look at SS)

-Mendoza has put on weight and has more pop this year

-Schuessler is joining the staff as a GA/assistant

-More offensive bunts this year because of increased team speed - but the coaches are having to teach bunting, as most of our recruits were their team’s offensive star in high school and never had to bunt

-Wins last year more due to team chemistry than talent - team came to play every game. Need to develop that same mindset with this year’s team

-Must maintain mechanics no matter what the count for both hitters and pitchers. Coaches recruited more contact hitters, to cut down strikeouts. Pitchers cannot try and throw a “strike 3” pitch - will ruin their mechanics- must concentrate on throwing the pitch called and getting that to the right location.

-Different recruiting mindset than what we had with Pierce. Coaches pick the kids up on Thursday night, eat with them (a lot of Matt’s dinners), kids come to team meetings and practice, with the coaches interacting with them throughout.

-Coach Schloss reiterated what he tells recruits - if you are scared of the competition at UT, this is not the place for you. This is big boy baseball, and you need to embrace the challenge.

-Looks like another great class for next year.

-You can have more talent, play a perfect game, and still lose - that is part of the magic of baseball, and why the pros play 162.

-Every day they come to DFF and see the sign saying our last national championship was in 2005. Their goal is to add a new sign. Said 2026 would be a nice addition…

-New batter’s eye coming, with a new party zone in right field, similar to the Yeti Yard.

-Getting taller foul poles to the correct height.

-New turf next year, and they will take the “crown” out of the field - making it flatter. Schloss still wants the same “look,” with maybe a larger Bevo logo.

I’ve gotten used to this such that it doesn’t piss me off any longer, but there’s no fucking reason to make it larger, and I may end up restarting my anger at it knowing that they changed turf and didn’t remove it/move it behind home.

It would be refreshing not to have a top-flight pitcher get hurt this season. I realize it's commonplace nowadays, but I feel like it happens disproportionately to Texas; especially years where we have a real shot at winning it all.

Statesman article.    Note the competition at shortstop and early projected rotation.   Schloss said last year he thinks Flores can develop like Chris Cortez (aggy, 2d round Angels).  I hope he is right.

I don't closely follow recruiting,  not familiar with freshman RHP Michael Winter,    Kansas player of the year.

Armed with a four-pitch mix and elite command, Winter ran his fastball up to 95 mph and piled up 100 strikeouts while issuing just four walks all season.  One of the defining moments of Winter’s season came when he tossed back-to-back complete game no-hitters, each featuring 12 strikeouts,

A roster sheet may come in handy for those heading out to watch Texas baseball play Texas Tech in a fall scrimmage this weekend.

“I think we have a new team almost every year in today’s college athletics, between the draft and the (transfer) portal and different things that happen,” Schlossnagle said Tuesday. “A lot of new, especially position players. Some super-talented young pitchers.”

Schlossagle and his staff added eight Division I transfers over the offseason, including six position players. The headliners from that group are catcher Carson Tinney, who slugged 17 home runs at Notre Dame last season, and outfielder Aiden Robbins, who hit .422 with 20 stolen bases at Seton Hall.

The Texas coaching staff devoted more time to harvesting portal talent than it would have liked to. The Longhorns won the SEC regular-season title and earned the right to host a regional, but were bounced there by UTSA. An exhibition game against the Red Raiders, scheduled to take place 1 p.m. Saturday at Round Rock’s Dell Diamond, will mark Texas’ first action since that disappointment.

“Last year ended prematurely for us,” Schlossnagle said. “It did give us time to bring a lot of guys on visits. It falls the way it’s going to fall. The experience was good. We had an SEC championship to hang our hat on. We had the same group of coaches back. There wasn’t nearly as much outside noise as there was the previou

Rodriguez wants to play shortstop. And he decided to show Schlossnagle and his staff that he could do so at a high level, devoting the summer to transforming his body.

“He looks really good at shortstop,” second baseman Ethan Mendoza said. “It doesn’t matter where he plays, he’s going to rake and play great defense.”

Rodriguez, hampered by a hand injury during his 2025 true freshman campaign, was often deployed as a designated hitter, but also saw some time at second and third base. He batted .313 on the season with a .927 OPS and seven home runs, stealing 15 bases, too. He’ll be in the lineup in some capacity next season, Schlossagle said. Whether he gets his wish of playing shortstop is yet to be decided.

The Longhorns acquired a transfer shortstop over the offseason in Temo Becerra, a senior who hit .330 with a .811 OPS at Stanford. Those two will battle it out to decide who replaces Jalin Flores, Texas’ starter at the position in 2025 who decided to turn pro despite a down year.

“So far, he and Temo are in a really nice competition,” Schlossagle said.

Don’t expect to see Dylan Volantis, last season’s SEC freshman of the year, on the mound Saturday.

Volantis is recovering from a bout with mononucleosis, said Schlossnagle, who added that the lefthander is still building up his strength and won’t be pitching competitively in the fall.

“By the time he would be able to get himself ramped up, it would be time to almost shut it down again and move on,” Schlossnagle said.

When it is time for Volantis to get back on the mound, Schlossnagle envisions him doing so as a starter. The 6-foot-6 lefthander made 22 of his 23 appearances out of the bullpen last spring, pitching to a 1.94 ERA and striking out 74 batters in 51 innings. When asked if he’ll be the Friday ace for the Longhorns as a sophomore, Schlossnagle wasn’t ready to award Volantis that title just yet, saying he’ll have to earn it.

Scholssnagle touted Haiden Leffew, Luke Harrison, Michael Winter and Jason Flores as the other four arms who are “most likely” to compete for a spot in the rotation.

Leffew is a Wake Forest transfer who pitched in 27 games out of the bullpen last year, accumulating a 4.46 ERA. Winter, a righty, is a 6-foot-5, 235-pound freshman from Kansas. Flores pitched well as a freshman, riding a biting fastball to a 2.78 ERA in 14 appearances and five starts. Harrison handled the Saturday night role brilliantly for the Longhorns last year, holding down a 3.06 ERA in 15 starts. He was eligible to enter the MLB draft, but decided to return.

“I felt like I had unfinished business here,” Harrison said. “Definitely looking forward to another year.”

So I will infer the following from that snippet:

1) he has command

2)at that level, he gets outs throwing strikes

3)at that level, his stuff is good enough to get swing and misses in the strike zone.

agree?  How likely is that to transfer to his new level?

https://texaslonghorns.com/news/2025/9/27/baseball-defeats-texas-tech-in-fall-exhibition  (summary of the Tech game)

Very good info from the Statesman.   Solidifying 1B,  Aiden Robbins seems to be a stud, and pitchers playing the OF.   Lamar, 6:30 PM, Friday.

Quote

During a fall scrimmage against Texas Tech, Casey Borba was tasked with replacing Schuessler at first base. Borba started at first, then swapped roles with designated hitter Josh Livingston during the 12-inning game at Dell Diamond. At the plate, Borba went 0-for-5 with an RBI in UT's 9-3 win over the Red Raiders.

A junior, Borba has previously been a candidate before for playing time at first. As a freshman, however, that job was mostly held down by Jared Thomas. Schuessler manned that position in 2025 while Borba found a home at third.

Borba was solid at third base last year, but finds himself on the move while Adrian Rodriguez and Stanford transfer Temo Becerra battle for playing time on the left side of the infield. Landing at first base could allow Texas to keep Borba's bat in the lineup after he hit .278 last season and ranked fourth on the team with 12 home runs.

"He's capable of playing third or first," Texas coach Jim Schlossnagle said. "First base is an underrated position defensively, it's super underrated. We had a great one last year, and it's very much a luxury. ... We need to develop a good first baseman like we had last year, and that's what we're trying to do. He's a team guy, and he wants to help the team."

Schlossnagle said backup catchers Andrew Ermis and Presley Courville are two additional candidates for first base. Texas will get another chance to work with its new first basemen during Friday evening's scrimmage against Lamar at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

One interesting tidbit from Saturday’s scrimmage could be found in center field. It did not involve starter Anthony Pack Jr., the talented freshman who made it to campus despite being a top-250 prospect in the 2025 draft class.

Junior Kade Bing also logged some playing time in center against Texas Tech. As Texas fans know, Bing is a left-handed pitcher who went 3-0 with a 3.15 ERA over 40 innings last season. He started the 2025 campaign in UT’s weekend rotation after transferring from McLennan Community College, but he fared better in a midweek role after losing his Sunday spot. Bing threw five innings of perfect relief against UTSA in March and had a 6 /3-inning start against Texas State in which he did not allow a hit.

Bing is still listed on the roster as a pitcher, and a position change likely isn’t in his future. Schlossnagle explained that since Texas will soon start carrying a smaller roster in the wake of the House settlement and is also dealing with a few injuries and outfielder Jonah Williams' involvement with the UT football team, some pitchers like Bing, Ruger Riojas and Ethan Walker may be asked to play the field during practices, intrasquad scrimmages or lengthy fall ball games.

"As we get closer and closer to a 34-man roster, we don't have that many players. I keep saying that," Schlossnagle said. "If we're going to carry 18 to 20 pitchers, if you have a couple guys hurt... and Jonah's playing football, you start cutting the numbers off. We don't even have enough guys to have an intrasquad game, which makes these games more important."

Bing did not get to bat against Texas Tech. He recorded two putouts in the field.

Against Texas Tech, Texas started seven players who weren’t on the team last season. Of those newcomers, Aiden Robbins made the best first impression. Robbins went 3-for-4 at the plate with five RBIs. He started in right field and hit clean-up for the Longhorns.

Robbins transferred to Texas after spending his first two years of college at Seton Hall. Robbins hit .422 and earned all-Big East honors last season.
