My only shred of hope in this timeline is that this was called because military brass had said out loud that they’re getting sick of this shit and that this makes them double down ready to refuse orders and turn on him when he officially declares martial law and orders open fire on US civilians. Yeah I know that’s stupid, I just can’t imagine someone devoting their entire life to the military and just capitulating to these no serving disrespectful pieces of human garbage.

There is a very high chance that last night, when a few of these guys got together in small groups to share a glass of whiskey, there was a very brief comment of "we all remember our oath, right?"  They nodded, and that was that.  There MAY have been a couple of even smaller side conversations about "so, we have some ideas about what to do if we get an illegal order," but even those conversations were very short and to the point I'd suspect.

And it's absolutely this - that's not how it starts, but it's 100% how it ends.  He wants to deploy the military against Americans.

Again, let's get that very plain and straight: Donald Trump is champing at the bit to deploy the United States military, with orders to use deadly force, against Americans.

He is an existential threat to the Republic.

I saw a piece discussing the new plans for the military to ignore threats abroad and focus on more local and even internal problems.  It noted that there is always dissent among command staffs when these things are proposed and discussed, but that this was drawing unusual controversy.

I know it feels naive.  But, we also know that there ARE a shitload of senior officers who do indeed remember their oath.  These are people who got a real education, went to West Point or the Naval Academy.  They are not suckers.

This is true, certainly. And I hope they do the right things in the months to come. But I sure didn’t read any stories about anyone refusing illegal orders to murder fishermen accused of having drugs on their boats

Fishermen?

Biggest issues facing the DoD isn't shaving waivers and fat people. It's lack of asset divestiture, to fund emerging technologies to counter new threats. Inability to effectively mobilize assets across a GPS contested battlefield to name a few.

Literally declaring "war" on U.S. cities and authorizing "necessary force" (i.e., shooting U.S. civilians) should very much be unusually controversial.

Not to diminish the darkness of that EO, but this "QRF" is of national guard forces that are out of the chain of command of these officers in particular.  I believe.

That is good, I guess, but the very rhetoric of referring to Americans he disagrees with as "the enemy within" and talking about using the military to "quell" them is chilling.

They're starting to talk about what we've all been afraid of, out in the open, and every time they do it is a step toward normalizing it.

Where are all the 2nd amendment freedom lovers getting together to plan their attack? It’s all they’ve talked about for decades. Must be a secret meeting somewhere, as I haven’t heard shit from them yet.

Seems like somebody in Dem leadership has this moment to say something like

“In the wake of this I want to take this opportunity to remind everybody that there isn’t a strong historical precedent for “I was just following orders” as a defense. Thank you for your attention to this matter”

But reality is

EXACTLY!

This is your moment, guys.

But the truth is that they don't mind a tyrannical government at all, as long as they agree with the direction the tyranny is pointed.

Anyone counting on the military to save us from fascism lives in a different mind space than I do.

How much did this foolishness cost the American people? Some of which were called "the enemy within" from our president who isn't divisive and fuck you democrats you're the divisive ones. Stop being so divisive, and listen to the president call you the enemy within and evil and vermin, etc.

Pete Hegseth is reportedly “crawling out of his skin” in fear of being assassinated in the wake of the shooting death of Charlie Kirk.

The U.S. Secretary of War has been described by his staff as “manic,” frequently erupting into furious rants.

Two of the former Fox News host’s staffers told The Daily Mail that their boss’s behaviour had worsened after Kirk was killed earlier this month in Utah.

Now, Hegseth has become “obsessed” with his own security.

According to the Mail, the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) has removed agents from their posts to safeguard Hegseth’s homes in Minnesota, Tennessee, and Washington, D.C.

Holy shit, he seriously told a room full of top military officials to ignore rules of engagement? Is he referring to war crimes? My god, when will someone from within the "Grand" party stand up to these fucking maniacs! How can anyone vote for this? My brain, I just cannot comprehend what is happening right now.

Some do. They're just fine with being shitty people.

I'm glad we didn't witness complete capitulation from the brass in that room, but what would have been perfect was for them to all walk out in unison. alas, a boy can dream, I guess

Yep.  And I want any general not on board with this bullshit to do everything they can to keep their jobs as long as they can, including nodding along to the meaningless bullshit.

Nah, we need our attack dogs to follow orders from the elected executive. The dream of a noble dictatorship of well-educated generals (which is all an unaccountable military can become) is no less fascist than the movement surrounding this president; just less gauche because the generals are circumspect and mannerly.

I love how embarrassing this all is. I hope the generals felt humiliated.

yeah but they would all be fired this afternoon and replaced with MAGA influencers. I have to hope that some of them, even ones who are republican, believe in the rule of law including not having the military provide police services.
