June 5Jun 5 We got hit in Leander by the hail storm. I was out of town. My next door neighbor had a roofing guy from Linear Roofing come out. Said the roof needed replacement and there was damage to the fence, downspouts, gutters, and window glazing. I went ahead and had him inspect ours too since I wasn’t there to find my own roofing company. He found similar results. We have a 3,300 sq ft 2 story house and rough WAG he thought it would cost $30-35k (just the roof) to replace the roof with Certainteed Landmark shingles. Does anyone have experience with Linear? Other roofing company recommendations in Austin? Thoughts about the WAG cost? We have a 2% deductible for hail. Ouch.
June 5Jun 5 Second @ROFL BOX. We had a claim similar to yours in May of 2023. Initially the insurance company only gave us something like $25 but rofl found more damage and with his pictures and documentation they ended up paying around $45. 2300 sq fr two story with a detached shed. Had to paint siding, window trim, new gutters, replace window screens, and obviously roof.
June 5Jun 5 Yeah, if you haven't been following his story over the past year, it would be cool to at least let @ROFL BOX take a look and bid if he chooses to do so.
June 5Jun 5 Author Thanks for the references. If he’s challenged to work, any others would also help.

My crew leader will be doing site inspections for me while I run the paperwork end of things That reminds me - I need to check 8n with @LeanderHorn (if he's still on here - name wouldn't tag). We re-roofed his 2 story casa around 8 years ago.
June 6Jun 6 Since Mark did my roof I was forced to sue my mortgage company for fraud. They subsequently went out of business over allegations of securities fraud (go figure) and I eventually won my lawsuit against some subsidiary holding corporation in a credit default swap robo signature debacle and then sold my hone at a nice profit. The buyers then looked at the amazingly sturdy roof and promptly demolished all his great work and rebuilt some dot com nightmare pussy concrete and glass monstrosity in the $2.5 million range that remained empty for a few years awaiting some new miniature American Bitcoin psycho to buy it and comment that they knew there was the spirit of a much greater roof that still lived on this land. Personally I blame Mark and his cognitive decline for all of it. Especially the demise of Austin in general. But the man CAN build a roof.
June 9Jun 9 @Dbeasy - I sent you a PM a couple days ago. & Anyone else (Leander, New Braunfels, etc.) I would like to hear from y'all.
June 9Jun 9 there was rain in the area last night and everything was still dry when i woke up. maybe it was the roof, maybe it was the that force field blocks rain from my house. i don’t think mark controls the force field but he built the roof so 🤷🏽♂️
June 10Jun 10 Rofl &his crew also repaired & fully cleaned / stained my fence - the rain didn't get the fence wet either.
June 10Jun 10 PS: San Antonio area to the D/FW region.... have done lots up there as well. fuggled in Richardson as an example. HMU... Need some income. If you have to pay a deductible (Texas state law, 2019) you may as well allow me to provide top tier service for that required expense

If you have to pay a deductible (Texas state law, 2019) you may as well allow me to provide top tier service for that required expense Nobody is paying a deductible. Yes Texas changed the law but every roofing company is just like “eh, whatever”. Literally every single one. And PSA for you guys getting a new roof from the storms - wait. Just wait. It will never be more expensive than it is within 30 days after a storm and all the roofers from a 1000 mile radius are attacking your area. They will all ask what your insurance check was and then say “that’s fine, I’ll do it for that”. Unless you have massive damage, just wait until the chaos is over and get it done by a local roofer.
June 11Jun 11 What is the cheapest possible way to get a new roof for one that is completely worn out?

No. Not literally every one. Because there are honest companies out there who don't like committing insurance fraud.
June 11Jun 11 No. Not literally every one. I would not have been able to get you the added +$ 20,000⁰⁰ if you had not paid your deductible AND we comped probably $ 4,500⁰⁰ for the shed rebuild (4 walls, Masonite to Fiber Cement, new door + repaint) & soffit repair on the back patio. Cheap =/= goodYMMV

June 27Jun 27 Author Since I started this thread I’ll just remind everyone that if you don’t pay your deductible on an insurance claim in Texas you are committing insurance fraud in Texas. The legal and correct way to engage a roofer is to get as much high quality roofing as you can for the price the insurance company gives you for the claim.

I got multiple bids and ended up getting higher quality, better shingles and other add-ons as compared to some of the bidders who were trying to slap on lower quality shingles and cheaper construction in order to maximize their profit margins. ROFL BOX’s list above is legit. Some of these roofers were cutting those corners. And what’s sad is that most of my neighbors fell for the smooth sales pitch of the storm chasers.

October 7Oct 7 That estimate sounds a bit on the higher side but still within range for premium shingles on a large two-story home. It’s smart to get a few more quotes to compare. Also, check reviews and warranties before committing reputable local roofers will give detailed estimates without pressure. When doing an insurance re-roofing, the contractor needs to examine the i estimate docs (ALL OF THEM... don't hold back) to ensure the valuation is correct. Currently, a 1 story "walkable" in Dimensional shingles is in the range of $ 400 ~ $ 425 per square. Don't avoid your FULL DEDUCTIBLE & don't cheap out on important details like correct flashing, Teks screws for metal flashing, Lead Jacks, a quality hip & ridge, Ice & Water where applicable & a proper vapor barrier. An often overlooked consideration is cleanup. ● Is the roof so steep that the old material (trash) cannot be walked over the roof & into the dumpster?● Is there a lot of delicate landscape to work around?● Are there obstructions that prevent getting trash around the side of the house?● Is there a swimming pool or spa that needs protecti9n?
