I have nothing against you at all. So please don’t take this the wrong way. if she’s coming and going from Mexico to and from the US then y’all need to make plans for if she is detained / sent back. Who to call, how to inform you if you aren’t together. Make sure her phone is clean, etc etc. you really should be concerned. Hell I’m concerned for me and I am a white US citizen.

I appreciate the advice, but both of us have been dealing with visas/consuls/paperwork/lawyers/CBP/border crossings/etc for 5 years. The idea that neither of us is aware of what's going on in the US right now is laughable. As I mentioned, she's here legally and is very careful about her behavior and social media. She hates politics and would never be involved in shit like this.

Right now I'm a lot more worried about running into venomous snakes (likely) on our dog walks than I am about ICE and deportation (unlikely).

The rest of you can continue with the histrionics.

There have been a few changes in the past six months that make your five years of experience completely meaningless.

Boy, this shit sure knocked Elon saying Trump was in the Epstein files out of the national consciousness quickly.  Terrible writing, leaving all these dangling storylines unresolved.

There are two sides to every story and in the environment we live in today you will be fed the side of the story that enrages you and plays on your emotions.

Oh for fucks sake. The last 5 years includes the past six months, which also includes the time she flew here from Mexico....last month.

I’m not nearly as nice as troph is. I’ll laugh my ass of when she gets detained knowing that you voted for it.

I'm not saying they should or shouldn't be deployed. I just had an issue with the way that statement was phrased.

Well, remember, these are Trumpco's fanciful interpretations of the laws and constitution that considerably err on the side of executive power.

And also recall that 1-2 months ago, in an interview, when asked directly if he was obligated to uphold the Constitution, he said: "I don't know."

Never mind that oath of office stuff.

They can't deploy active-duty military in the manner he wants, so he has to go the National Guard route, something that many Presidents have done in the past.

You know I don't like the guy, but there is a huge difference between the National Guard and regular US Army soldiers or US Marines.

Is Trump trying to fuck around and see if he can get active duty troops deployed domestically and violate the Constitution?  I have no doubt he would like to, but at the end of the day, if he could pull it off, he would have went straight to the regulars and not the National Guard.

The last time the National Guard was federalized and deployed without the consent of a state’s governor was before you or I were born. So, yeah, this time it’s different.

Yeah man I know my history.

When is the last time that an American civilian was killed by the national guard? Is it Kent State? Seems like a decent track record.

Lol. During the BLM protests.

Edited by Brian Fantana

I believe the last time the NG was federalized was during the '92 riots.

Then here:

On September 24, 1957, President Dwight D. Eisenhower federalized the entire Arkansas National Guard to ensure the safe entry of the Little Rock Nine to Little Rock Central High School the following day. Governor Orval Faubus had previously used members of the guard to deny the students entry to the school.[57][58]

The 1990s was at the request of the CA governor at the time. The last time it happened without the consent of a governor was the 1960s.

The unit's name is "79th Infantry Combat Brigade". They are trained warriors. You send them places you want to kill people.

There's a reason you separate military and the police. One fights the enemies of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people

The army is basically organized around the BCT, so any almost any time army units are deployed they will be elements of a BCT.

That said, this is a clear provocation. The admin feels above water on immigration and knows that the military is popular.  He wants to have the image of protesters fighting uniforms.

Funny how the people who identify with the party not in office always claim the nonfascist side.  I’ve been on this site for a long time and often ignore most everything that remotely resembles politics, but this falls into that category.  The sooner everyone wakes up and realizes it’s all a fucking game to the republicans and democrats, congressmen and senators, governors to keep everyone in a frenzy, the better.  Today, it’s trump deployed the national guard to put down rioting in Los Angeles, left reacts.  Years ago, it was Biden arresting the insurgents at the capitol, right reacts.  Think I’ve said this before, but this place is filled with some of the smartest dumb people I know -credit to bud kilmer

Look, I'm really not trying to dog on you, but having the US Military, be they active, reserve, or National Guard, kill or injure even one US citizen exercising their Constitutional rights is unacceptable.  Kent State and the other instances are not "a decent track record".  I say this as a US Marine, currently not in an active status.  I know how I was trained and what my duty is.  Harming US citizens exercising their rights is not part of that duty for me or anyone else in the military.

Both things can be true are the same time. Thay what Trump is doing is wrong and that it is a game to Republicans and Democrats. But I have to say those two incidents are not comparable.

And I kind of get the logic of "nothing matters, don't react to anything you are only playing into their hands" but I don't know. Soulless nihilism just isn't for me.

I have values, I have eyes and I have ears and I am going to see things and make judgements. Maybe the smart thing is to have no values and disbelieve everything I see and instead sit around in a nihilistic fog. But I need a little more convincing that is a good idea.

I will say this, it sure seems like this protest was exactly what Trump wanted to trigger just so he could do this. He remembers the summer of 2020.

It's probably bad that these people fell for the trap.

But the correct way to respond eludes me. Simply talking about the bad things Trump does doesn’t seem to produce good results either.

Sketchy. Somebody wants chaos.

My understanding is these people were reporting for routine immigration appointments and were then detained. Their friends and family got upset and that led to the protests. That is not particularly sketchy or illogical.

But there probably is more to it.

For sure this probably plays into Trump's hands. He was pretty eager to call in the troops.

These protests, and the Floyd protests, are not even remotely comparable to the Capitol invasion on January 6.

Let me know when these protestors break into a government building, during working hours, and while the occupants of the building are engaged in an important, if mostly ceremonial, quasi-legislative session.

Arresting, trying, and convicting lawbreakers is what "Biden" did, more accurately, those in his administration tasked to do those things on a daily basis.  All lawbreaking protestors should be treated similarly.

What Biden never did was mobilize a military force against American citizens.  Sure, it's "just the national guard," but read what Trump writes.  He truly wants the US military to crack down on civilians within the territorial United States.  He verily wants Delta Force and Seal Team 6 to be unleashed on protestors.  He won't get that, most likely, so he'll settle for the 76th BCT.

How soon you forget that this is a man who asked his second Sec Def if the military couldn't just "shoot em in the legs or something"?

This is a guy that wants to push the boundaries of his power in the most foolish and juvenile ways possible.

Have the balls to say you just don’t care about it because it doesn’t affect you and you have privilege to be able to say that. Drop the pretense and laughable excuse of “having too much on my plate”. Give me a fucking break
