June 10Jun 10 That sucks. Hope it manages to survive intact for perpetuity. Love that place. Go almost every week.

June 10Jun 10 Man, was just saying I needed to get over there as it's been probably 20yrs since I've had a bowl of chili there. Dude loved to party. Spent several late nights there in the mid '00s.

Saw a comedian the other day- " had to get a divorce. My wife kept going to a bunch of bars late every night." His buddy " ah that sucks " "Yeah she was looking for me"
June 10Jun 10 Yeah I’m not sure what happened but it seems pretty confirmed. RIP Zoob. I’m mad I missed it on my most recent trip back to Austin - I hope it’s still there same as it ever was next time I’m in town.
June 10Jun 10 Popular Post RIP Zoob. I was there last month and it was the same as ever. Hope it stays the same.

June 10Jun 10 Twas just a joke. Like the reply you would get if you went to Poodies and asked for a Sour or a Milk Stout
June 10Jun 10 I'm pretty sure he didn't own it anymore. There was a bartender there earlier this year when I went there before a show at Moody that said he owned it now or something unless I totally misunderstood what was going on.

Their website says he still owns it, but it also says he was the founder which is a bit of a stretch since I thought he bought in the early 2000's after the previous owner fucked up the taxes. And its also certainly possible they haven't looked at the website in 2 years. https://texas-chili-parlor.weeblyte.com/about

June 11Jun 11 Cheese enchiladas still good? If it’s going the way of the dinosaurs, I’d like get one more plate in.
June 11Jun 11 Popular Post My understanding is: Original owners started it in ‘76. Some lady bought it from them in the late 90s, failed to pay sales tax, it gets shut down in 2002. Zoob takes it over by paying back taxes after having been a regular. Regarding Zoob, talked to a bartender there tonight and Zoob passed away Sunday morning. They are having a private party there Friday for him as per the sign in the door. I didn’t ask what was going to happen now he is gone but they better not change a thing. Frieda’s cheese enchiladas still slam. RIP Zoob. Long Live TCP.
June 11Jun 11 Re Lonstar: - Yeah, it was a rule for a previous owner about Lone Star. Some kinda riff. It was posted on the rules board, just before “No talking to imaginary people.” from a prior employee /patron.
June 11Jun 11 I feel like Brendan would be a worthy successor to the Chili throne. no idea what was going on with him, I no longer live in the state, i saw some pictures and it looks like he was maybe sick. Perhaps he had time to get his affairs in order.

If not, are you trying to buy a piece of property in downtown Austin? You're probably talking millions of dollars. The second thing would be rules around a bunch of these twatwaffles who three down tree fiddy coming in every day saying "I'm an owner my shit is free."

Looks like the property is owned by an entity called Block 174 Partners that owns a couple of adjacent parcels totaling a quarter of the block.
June 12Jun 12 I’m ashamed to admit I’ve only eaten there a few times, and it was back when I worked at the Capitol. My patronage leaves something to be desired. I love that Tarantino filmed on location there. I had a professor that held court there every Thursday. He always invited the whole class. Never took him up on it because well I had better shit to do, and I didn’t want to leave my car on a meter overnight. I hope some students did join him, and they had a good time swapping stories.

Cheese enchiladas weren't bad at all - although I did think I got gypped on my chili topping...so I ordered a bowl as a chaser. Server told me Zoob's brother currently owns it, and the current manager (Scott?) may be taking it over.
