I could see it going into the 100s if near term global fears can affect short term emotions and cause immediate long term effects. But only if people act correctly like me. People are irrational.

Putin invaded Ukraine. Oxy would have gone bankrupt without that increase in prices.

Lol. Berkshire tells Oxy what to do. Uncle Warren owns almost 30% of the company.

Big merger news today for some Houston and Denver folks:

Quote

SM Energy and Civitas Resources announced an all-stock merger valued at about $2.8 billion in equity, or $12.8 billion including debt, creating one of the largest independent U.S. shale producers by output and acreage.

According to Reuters, the combined firm will operate under the SM Energy name and be headquartered in Denver, overseeing roughly 823,000 net acres across the Midland, Delaware, and DJ basins. Management projects more than $1.4 billion in 2025 free cash flow and up to $300 million in annual cost synergies through consolidated drilling programs, logistics, and overhead savings.

Funny enough, I ran into some SM guys at a golf thing earlier today and they had just learned of it at the same time as everyone else, via press release.

OPEC+ just gave U.S. shale a lifeline. After agreeing to a 137,000 bpd hike, the group will pause output increases for three months in 2026, easing pressure on WTI. Analysts say this could save U.S. shale from a 700,000 bpd drop if prices slid to $50. #OilMarkets #OPEC #Shale…

Permian guys love to shit on the DJ because it’s not a crude play, yet deals like this keep happening.

Chevron bought PDC in May 2023.

Starting to see the first drilling permits for dedicated lithium production showing up in the RRC system. Mostly Hopkins County, near Sulphur Springs.

We hunt in Franklin County and there is a lot of talk about it in Mt Vernon.

Lots of competitive lithium leasing going on up in that neck of the woods. XTO is getting pretty big into it, but there are also several small startup companies. We've just recently started to dip our toes into writing lithium opinions. Methinks you're going to see a noticeable uptick in TX title attorneys adding Arkansas licenses in the near future.

CR warning:

Trump Admin is back to trying to cajole Ukraine into a shitty surrender deal and Sec. Bessent is out talking about how oil prices can really come down if Venezuela gets toppled. SMDH.

shitty news ...

Houston-based Westlake Corporation is closing three of its Louisiana plants, citing difficult market conditions.

Operations will end this month, and the closures will eliminate positions for around 295 employees at its Aberdeen and Lake Charles plants, according to a Dec. 15 news release.

Via a long ago relative, I have a small royalty share in a south texas oil field. It's far from life changing money. Covers my monthly bar tab type of money and I'm a lightweight at the bar. Or more precisely it previously covered the tab. With the dropping oil prices and some lower output, it's down about 60% the past few months. </first world problem rant>

My dad gets about 100 bucks a year. It's a bit of a running family joke. I will ask how much it's fluctuated over the years. I really have no idea.

This comes from under a 230 acre farm owned by a great uncle and was inundated by Lake Sakakawea 70 years ago. That’s a 1/21 share.

It’s about 1/4 of that for 2025 due to production & price decline. IDGAF.

I get around $3 annually from my 3x great aunt's property in west Texas. Tip: at some point just name a single beneficiary for the royalties in your will.
