June 16Jun 16 The shit tournament needs its own thread, even if it’s just for estimates of how many dozens of fans are at each match. USMNT 🇺🇸 beat the crap out of Trinidad & Tobago 🇹🇹 5-0 and T&T was such trash that even Max Arfsten looked like a solid player who was dangerous in the final third. And we know that Arfsten is pure trash against solid opponents. Also, the stadium was about half full at most. México 🇲🇽 started off the tournament beating the baseball loving half of the island of Hispanola (a.k.a. “La República Dominicana”) 🇩🇴 3-2, I believe, in a half empty SoFi stadium. The last game to mention (because I forgot the other one) was Costa Rica’s 🇨🇷 death knell escape of Suriname 🇸🇷 (which is the Dutch answer to Jamaica 🇯🇲 in CONCACAF) with a PK before the final whistle. This match was played in San Diego in front of dozens, if not hundreds of people. The numbers for the match will not be reported honestly, but I would estimate fewer that 2,000 people were in the stands. They could have used on person to sell concessions in the aisles for the entire stadium. This event should be a U-20 event played in 2-3 stadiums in one town. It wouldn’t matter if they were high school stadiums. Either that, or it is time to take this tournament out of the USA. Seth Meyers would have this to say about the Gold Cup, if he knew that it existed. Spoiler So now we have a thread to discuss the most worthless international tournament in world ⚽️. And don’t forget to estimate attendance for the matches you choose to mock. Keylor Navas wins award for worst hairdo in CONCACAF.
June 16Jun 16 Honestly, if they switched this tournament to every 4 years like Europe and South America, it would be a way better event. Yes, there still wouldn't be great teams, but everyone would be sending their A squads. Instead, we do it every 2 and they charge stupidly high ticket prices.
June 16Jun 16 Just a select few tickets left for Thursday's US vs Saudi game at Q2... If they drop another 50%, I might be interested. Edited June 16Jun 16 by Blotto

Jerry World for Sunday looks even worse. I’m going but am not buying tickets until the day of. I’m hoping to get midfield seats for less than $100.

June 17Jun 17 Jamaica had just smoked them a few days ago in World Cup qualifiers. Good for Guatemala.
June 18Jun 18 Canada giving Honduras the T&T treatment. Have to think they are the favorite to win this thing.

June 19Jun 19 Well... so much for tickets becoming more affordable as game day approached. Looks like half the seats in the stadium are still available and the cheapest ticket into the place is still $92 on seat geek. Prices haven't really budged at all, so I'm wondering if this is the US soccer federation being too proud to sell tickets for a USMNT game for $25? I would willingly pay a higher price to watch our A team guys, but they can get fucked if they think its worth $100 to watch these slapdicks in a heat index that will be around 100 at kick. Stadium is gonna look like shit with all those empty seats.
June 19Jun 19 Does concacaf control ticket prices for the gold cup when US plays? When I volunteered at previous Gold Cups with a US game, we only dealt with concacaf staff for the game. There was no US official presence involved except as part of the team group.
June 19Jun 19 I would probably pay that to see Pulisic and some other A teamers. I might pay that to watch Austin play a playoff game or other big game. I'm not paying that to watch Agyameng play striker.
June 20Jun 20 Watching the Haiti v Trinidad match right now. Dynamo stadium is almost empty. So, like normal.
June 20Jun 20 2 hours ago, Ted Lange said: Get in price is $92. Ridiculous. Should be half that. Seeing some weird price action for the next game in Arlington so I ended up buying. Got lower bowl right next to midfield for $109 per ticket. Not bad.

Curaçao had 2 goals taken off the board in the 2nd half. They were the dominant team, Canada was asking for it. And when they made the mistake they were totally exposed.

June 22Jun 22 i have watched a lot of gold cup games, but missed the Canada game last night. prior to that, I had thought they and Panama had looked like the two best teams in the tournament. that was a very surprising result.
June 22Jun 22 Watched a good 50 or so minutes of Canada v cucacao. Not very exciting soccer for the 65 people in attendance. Other than a lot of hard fouls followed by “what did I do?” from both sides. Edited June 22Jun 22 by Pato del Muerto
June 22Jun 22 I’m very interested to see how few people are at Jerry World today. I grabbed a pair in the lower bowl right next to the midfield for $109 per ticket. Not bad.

June 23Jun 23 El Tri looking sharp in their black & gold kit eta: while flopping like fish on a dock. Edited June 23Jun 23 by Pato del Muerto
June 23Jun 23 Do they really look sharp? They have missed their chances and given CR chances of their own. Make no mistake, Navas has done well to keep Mexico off the board too.
June 23Jun 23 Their threads, bro, not their play. But- need them to hang on for the draw so we can get a costs rica with 2 players sitting for yellows.
June 23Jun 23 Trying to understand the var call. Goal scorer was off on the initial ball in, but isn’t the one that plays it. Then a tico defender put him onside before the ball is played to him.
June 23Jun 23 The only way they can say that Gimenez is offsides is if the Costa Rican header is a deflection. But it's not - THAT'S A DELIBERATE PLAY!!! Once the header is hit - that resets any offsides. Awful call

Attendance numbers (even fake ones that state Tickets Sold rather that Passed Through Turnstiles) have not been posted at the bottom of the Game Summary page. …which is not ESPN’s m.o., as you can see from the Club World Cup details.

US Soccer says 20,918. That feels about right to me.
June 23Jun 23 I caught some of the Mexico and Costa Rica match; it didn't look as full as El Tri matches usually are.
June 25Jun 25 Canada is going to be fine making it through the group, but they do not look good after that first game.

June 25Jun 25 loving see El Salvador go 2 men down for their standard dirty shit play. someone on their bench caught a 3rd red. I'm somewhat impressed they managed to get all that accomplished before the 2nd half started. That's expert level douchebaggery.

If they were looking to only sell 20K tickets/game, they wouldn’t need to have the tournament in the USA every time. They could sell 50K to 60K in Mexico and bring in the same money with a much better atmosphere.
