September 25Sep 25 It's very hard to project, but I'm thinking they will be good enough to make the play-in, if not a playoff spot. We've not seen the team at full strength. A few losses as they figure out how to play together, but if they stay healthy and "click" they will be extremely good

Rockets were the 2 seed with 52 wins last season. I think @Kermit gave a good number with 45. 49 was the 6 seed last year and 39 made the play-in.
September 28Sep 28 Author We need to take a hard look at the state of the western conference right now. OKC is still going to be a motherfucker. Pencil them in for 60 unless they have the injury bug. Denver should be much better. Houston should be much better but losing FVV is a blow for them. The rest of the conference? Minnesota is still solid but didn’t do anything to improve. Memphis is a mystery. I don’t think the Lakers are any better. They have nothing inside unless you think Deandre Ayton got a brain transplant this off season. Does anybody think the Warriors can hold up for 82 games? Phoenix is a mess. The Clippers have their whole thing going on. Sacramento is going to be bad. Dallas isn’t going to have Kyrie and I don’t think Flagg is going to move the needle in year 1 with what has been a Luka-centric roster that’s now very poorly constructed. Portland isn’t serious and neither is New Orleans. Utah blows. Did I miss anyone? Last year I thought the team would be better than the record reflected. This year? I think a lot of teams in the west are on the brink of implosion. If things break right and they can stay healthy, this is a team that can make the playoffs and avoid the play in. We didn’t get to see Fox and Wemby together. They are going to be a filthy pick and roll combo. They added some real vets and depth in the front court with Olynyk and Kornet. Castle in year 2 is going to be a stud. No idea what they’re going to get out of Harper but if he’s half as good as I think he’s going to be, he’s going to be a nightmare to keep out of the paint. They went from Devin Vassell being their second best player to him being about their fourth or fifth best player. This is now a legit nba roster. I’m thinking they have an outside shot at getting to 50. I’ve also had about 20 beers today watching football fwiw I’m fired up for this season to get started. We’ve been wandering around the desert for too long. GSG Edited September 28Sep 28 by Mitch Cumsteen

October 2Oct 2 I liked Keldon wearing a cowboy hat during media day to reassure us that he's still the same empty-headed buffoon that he's always been and doesn't plan on being worth his contract this season. I like our roster and I think the org is doing a good job but frankly it's astonishing that he and Vassell are still on the team.

He needs to get better or have his minutes given to Bryant

He needs to get better or have his minutes given to Bryant I would love to see Bryant get some run this season. Other than Wemby, I haven't been as excited about another rookie's potential since Kawhi. I'd say that Kawhi is basically Bryant's ceiling, but that may be hyperbole. Right now he's basically a raw Richard Jefferson who likes defense and has a motor, which is pretty good.

His development has been frustrating and his contract ain't great ($17 million), but they view him as an important part of the organization. Vassell at $27,000,000 / yr through 2028-29 is rough. He can't stay healthy, his defense has declined, has poor situational awareness, and he can't stay healthy. I think both of them suffered developmentally from having to "be the man" on bad teams. They never were groomed for complementary roles around other players, which is where their value should lie. They need to fit in around Wemby and Fox (and Castle and now Harper), not the other way around. This is a big year for both of them, as well as Sochan. I think they're all kinda in the same boat of having to prove that you can contribute to winning or it's going to be time to move off them. The pecking order has changed drastically over the past 12 months. And we still need a thread title.... Those aren't very good numbers for someone as young as he is that has a relatively normal frame. You'd want him to be playing 70 plus per year not 60.

October 7Oct 7 Based on the 1st quarter and a half against this Chinese team, Spurs are winning 50 games this year.
October 7Oct 7 Holy shit Wemby blocked that dude's shot to Shanghai. This broadcast is fucked though. Glitchy as hell.
October 7Oct 7 Well they dominated them Loong-Lions and Victor Oladipo? There's not an NBA team that couldn't use him? And Frank Kaminsky ... longtimeKenobi.gif I'm bumping my season win prediction up to 70 based on that sample size. Wemby was playing around. One sequence with Keldon was a Globetrotter sequence of passing back and forth and back again in a 5 foot space for an easy score.
October 7Oct 7 Author I only watched bits and pieces, but the Kornet/Wemby combo caught my eye. When they signed Kornet, I thought he was strictly going spell Wemby but even against the Chinese scrubs it was pretty obvious that they have some nice chemistry working when they're on the court together. I'm also preparing myself for them to still be a very bad three point shooting team and it most likely being their Achilles heel. Spurs 205-2026: Emerging as a contender brick by brick
