Interesting exchange.  As part of her background, they were going to have her explain that as a child, cops came to a domestic disturbance at her house and "made her feel safe."

State objected to the latter as prejudicial.  Judge sustained.  Mumbling about the "police make you feel safe."

Lmao.  Sad.

Gotta make her look like a sympathetic figure.

Hmm so she worked "more than 40 hours" while also going to school, but was never so fatigued from that schedule that she wandered into the wrong apartment and immediately ventilated someone?

And yeah, I guess there were two possible strategies for them in her physical presentation, either "hey look at the cute sweet white girl don't ruin her life" or "look how devastated she has been over this awful unavoidable accident" and they went door #2.

I can't wrap my head around what they were trying to accomplish with this line of reasoning at all. Even if the jury buys it, so fucking what? It doesn't have any bearing on what happened in this case.

And, the part where "cute sweet girl" was just gonna be flat hard to pull off.

I don't think it was a big deal either way.  Certainly not an appeal hinging on it.

Frankly, I could see the irony of it not being lost on the jury.

Is the stream up yet? The one I’ve been watching isn’t live yet

Ehh, come on. She's clearly not smoking hot, but a young petite blonde girl could definitely be made "cute" especially with a large budget. I know it's Surly where we all smash 10s, but they could definitely have gone that way if they wanted to.

Sex cop was married.  One might think the defense might have brought that out with him so as not to let it all fall on her.

#3119

Her droopy jowls/mouth slightly ajar remind me of some of the face transplant recipients of recent years.

The property manager was performing inspections of the apartments that week. Probably going to say she thought maintenance didn’t fully close the door.

#3121

This is all bullshit. She is a fucking cop, ofc there are dangerous things happening. But that has nothing to do with walking into the wrong apartment and killing the occupant.

"I was so lucky to not have to carry my equipment far b/c I got a close parking spot.  Of course, rather than taking literally 1 second to verify what floor I was on, I decided to carry all that heavy equipment past 16 doors to get to mine, despite the fact that this is the most confusing apartment complex in history, and no one can tell by looking what floor they are on."

do you not have a woman in your life?

Here it comes.  Shook had her stand up to demonstrate how she was carrying shit and opened the door and she wigged out.

why'd she start crying? I'm trying to read police reports and talk shit to the sooner and listen to sidebar conferences and I lost my place

It seemed really kind of out of nowhere, but did seem pretty genuine IMO. I dunno if the reality of getting right to the moment of truth came all of a sudden or what. It sounded like the prosecution objected to her putting on the equipment, and she was crying saying just let me do it, but I couldn't hear that part well.

He had her stand up and act like she was carrying her equipment into the apartment.  She blubbered something and they called a break.

#3143

Couldn't understand what she was saying, but those tears came fast. Definitely seemed genuine. Fake tears don't typically lead to "ugly crying" where you can't breath or speak, but I don't think anyone here believes she's anything but extremely remorseful. Unfortunately, that's not what the case is about.

Actually, Kingston was a city councilman who lost his seat last fall. He is a big political ally of Scott Griggs, who did in fact lose the runoff mayoral election.

Kingston is very opinionated and very intelligent but some see him as a bit of a bully. He and Griggs -- and a handful of others -- are the the only reason we don't have the stupid ass Tollway in the Trinity River basin. For that, I'll be forever thankful. If you're familiar with the Dallas City Council thread here you might remember Kingston and I went to HS together in SA.

Ok yeah Griggs is who I was thinking of. Delete user. Ban thread.

Oh, I think there's a sizable portion of shaglantes that are quite sure she laughs and flicks her bean over the whole episode.

She started crying before that though, there was an objection to a question, before that she seemed fine, after the objection discussion which wasn't picked up on audio, she was in tears, then it went full on blubbering when she had to stand up and put on the equipment.

I suspect that having that sidebar where she was just sitting there, and not having to focus on answering questions, went a long way to provoking that.
