did we hear a ruling on the defense asking her about the acute stress response?

No, but they bailed on that line of questioning, clearly.

Is there anywhere I can place a bet on the verdict?

Of course. My book is showing Not Guilty -400 Trillion

She said she wanted to continue, even while breaking down in tears, but the Judge excused the jury and took a recess for her to compose herself.

Did she? I thought she said "I don't know if I can continue." But it wasn't clear at all

Yeah, the audible objection seemed a little off.  It was "her general reactions not relevant, only that on 9/6."

She heard someone walking around inside before she tried to open the door. Why would you open the door to your apartment if you heard someone inside.

The Defense attorney reminds me of a young Mack Brown

Lawyer jousting over leading questions on direct and Shook standing up.

take control of the court room, my man!

own that shit!

Her responses on this part seem very rehearsed

Agreed.   Pretty clear they have been through this about 100 times.  "I was scared to death" "scared as shit...er crap"

Agree that she seems much more rehearsed here, and I don't think it helps her AT ALL to say she noticed the cracked door and heard someone. Uh, use your fucking training if you have a chance to act.

he can't Q and A right there for long, got to keep demo-ing, state will object

Is she the one that had all the “come near me and I’ll kill you” shit on her FB feed!?

so many cops have killed folks it’s hard to keep up.

defense should have made all this quicker

movement side to side and then a fast walk, gotta make that quicker, state's going to get her on that

If she actually said "let me see your hands, let me see your hands"  that means she made a calculated decision after having a few seconds to realize her mistake.  If she didn't (which I think is more likely) then she would have to admit to shooting in a panic without following procedure.   Regardless, with testimony that she shouted to let me see your hands while also stating he was walking "slowly" toward and not at a fast rate of speed, a reasonable trained LEO wouldn't start blasting.   If I'm on the jury not reasonable without even seeing cross.

The cop standard doesn't apply to regular people, and when she is acquitted it will show that the cop standard applies to cops when both on duty and off duty.

They have been trained to shoot at the first sign of fear.

In a way, I wish this trial had become a referendum on the police department hiring and training and overall shoot first and circle the wagons mentality.

I didn't realize the narrative was that she was on alert before the door opened.  To me that makes her actions after that point swing way to the unreasonable side versus the door opening and the first indication of an intruder was seeing the intruder.

So the entry wound is in the nipple area, and she does CPR and a sternum rub, but has no blood anywhere on her?

This is a really, really tough case. Did she intend to murder Bothan Jean? I don't believe so. But her incompetence or blatant stupidity led directly to a man's death. You cannot let a precedent be set where a cop is let off without punishment for shooting an innocent person dead in his own home when they weren't SUPPOSED TO BE THERE!

Yeah, I didn't fully appreciate that either.

She didn't intend to murder an innocent man, but she definitely intended to murder the man that was in front of her.

Agreed.  Not to mention it absolutely raises that by seeing a crack and hearing noises another reasonable reaction if she was "scared for her life" would be to back out (or not open the door at all).   Which would obviously have prevented this tragedy.    I absolutely think she's genuinely remorseful and I don't think she should get 20+ years or anything but she needs to do some time.  It was a mistake but not a reasonable one.

In this particular context, I am finding the repitition of "I thought I was in my own apartment" kind of curious.  As if she's trying to convince herself or something.

They've caught her in a lie about entering the parking garage.  There is missing time from when she enters to when she parks, but according to her, she drove straight to her spot with no stops.

or establish a defense as quickly as possible.  "I'm so tired!"

Being alone with a man you just shot is the scariest thing you can imagine? What about eating some ice cream at home when someone walks in and immediately shoots you.

Did she just say she got blood on her uniform?  Forensics said no blood.

She is about to cry again to get another break. Gotta practice!!

She just testified that being alone with the guy she shot is the most terrifying thing you can imagine. Um, I can imagine it's less terrifying than someone coming in your front door screaming and shooting while you are sitting on your couch eating some ice cream and watching football.

Defense is now violating the motion in limine, courts love that!!

Maybe and that's really the question the jury will have to answer. But it's just extremely poor training -- or sheer incompetence -- that she goes for her service weapon in this situation. If you're out in the wild, in unfamiliar places, I understand (maybe). But at home? In seemingly your own apartment? No. Don't buy it. I might not be willing to send in a conviction of murder in this case but she definitely needs to have punishment other than what a civil court will award. Fuck any special treatment because Guyger is a cop. That's offensive.

Defense trying awful hard to shoe-in that story about her looking up to cops as a child.  Good on the State to keep it out.

"No police officer ever wants to hurt an innocent person."

So she walks up to the door and notices it's open. She thinks it's her apartment. There is only one way out of the apartment. Yet instead of retreating into the hallway and calling 911, she chooses to enter and fire. Why not just post up outside of the apartment and demand he come out with his hands up? He has nowhere to go. She had all the time in the world. She did not have to put herself in this position.
