English law doesn’t say you have to play him.

And even in the Mendy situation the worst thing that happened was they had to pay him.

Arsenal  Baylor’d it. It’s really that simple.

oh yeah, didn’t tottneham sign yves bissouma while he was under investigation for sexual assault? yes, yes i believe they did. which means he was still playing at brighton while under investigation for sexual assault. where was the outrage then? where were the rabid dogs bumping this thread on their high horses? what happened?

Fuck them too. This isn’t that hard.
United found a way to suspend Greenwood. City did the same with Mendy. But let’s pretend that the law is so difficult for these clubs to navigate. w

What’s the law that says Arsenal had to play someone, feature him on socials, that they knew was a rapist?
No one is blaming fans so you can quit pretending that’s happening. Maybe people just don’t understand why there’s so many excuses being made for the club completely failing.

And them getting sued mattered how? They had to pay 8 million pounds. I’m sure that really broke their budget. United didn’t get sued so it must not be so cut and dry is it?

Yea and SOP is the whole fucking problem. Instead of actually standing for something they buried it and ignored it. They played someone they knew was credibly accused of rape. Maybe they should try rewriting the SOP if that’s what they operate with. Why is this so difficult for you?

jesus fucking christ, this is why nobody can take you seriously. this is like saying that someone who got into a fist fight with a jewish person “hitler'd it”. the two situations are so fucking far apart it’s comical.

you are not someone to be taken seriously on this matter.

Ignored rape in favor of sports vs covered up rape in favor of sports. They aren’t that far apart. Maybe in your example Arsenal are the good Germans.

Maybe I shouldn’t be taken seriously on it. That’s not for me to say.
But I’m also not the person making excuse after excuse for why a rapist continued to play a prominent role at my club.

for those who don’t know, baylor, the school already famous for its intra-team murder scandal, went out and recruited players who they knew had already raped coeds at their previous school, unleashed their team into the BU campus where the football players were sexually assaulting and raping co-eds on a regular basis, then blamed the victims, made the victims continue to go to class with their own rapists, then kicked the rape victims out of school after their grades dropped due to trauma, then tried to cover up the literal culture of rape which permeated their program, all while employing people like art briles and kim mulkey.

comparing that ^^^ to the thomas partey situation is disgusting. actually fucking disgusting. you are gross.

@Derka why don’t you answer this simple question, what SHOULD Arsenal have done?

Then compare that to what they did do and tell us all who’s gross.

I can't speak for Brighton at all. Spurs signed Bissouma in the final month of the investigation and he never played for Spurs while the investigation was ongoing.

Make no mistake, there were a lot of fans that did not like the fact that Spurs signed him. I was not aware of anything before his signing, but I was among those that wasn't happy with it when I heard about the circumstances. I was glad he was cleared.

something else that really bothers me here is that arsenal are one of two epl clubs i can name (liverpool being the other) where the entire club, from top to bottom, factually, openly, publicly makes “being a good person/club” a central focus. ...

Yet the continued to play Partey when they knew this was going on.

This is my stance too. There is nothing wrong with calling out your own team for actions like this.  But wasn't he team Beard post arrest?

Peacock is hiking prices as more sports leads to more price increases for streaming platforms. http://dlvr.it/TM1gn6

So $20 a month to watch EPL and Champions league.

I would've gladly paid $20 a month back in the late 90s and onward for this access. On top of that I don't have to deal with ESPN.

It wont stop at $20.   At some point, it is going to be straight up PPV for each game.   We have already unbundled nearly everything.   It will all be unbundled, and you will need a separate subscription for every team and sport you like watching.   Teams will never stop wanting new revenue streams, and it will eventually get there.

Why would this happen when leagues pool their TV rights and then pay each team equally from it? Teams already get their own revenue from things like selling preseason matches or charity events. Liverpool has its own streaming option called LFCTV Go for pre and post game breakdowns, preseason matches, and other featurettes. MLB has been the only one so far that doesn't have centralized deals for all teams. I just don't get this angst over a $3 price increase. England gets I believe only 3 matches any match day. We get all of them. I don't subscribe to USA Network but I can watch that match on OTA with Telemundo or Exitos. If it's not on there, I can find a stream.

Angst is more of an annoyance, of how we need separate apps, separate accounts, for nearly everything.  Agree, Im glad we are able to see all the matches at for what is now a reasonable price.   Done yelling at clouds.

PRO: If your team drops to the Championship you can cancel that shit.

CON: of course, you can then enjoy that season missing the first 20 minutes of every match trying to find a dodgy stream from Russian or Uzbekistan that might work for 30 minutes, hoping against hope that your tiny-screened device of choice is not infected with thousands of viruses.

I like to imagine that Granit Xhaka sat through one practice with Erik Ten Hag and afterwards he called his agent and said “I’ll go anywhere else”.

Sunderland have agreed a fee worth up to €20million for the signing of Bayer Leverkusen’s Granit Xhaka. The club are set to pay Leverkusen €15m up front with a further €5m in potential add-ons, with Xhaka set for a medical in the next 24 to 48 hours. @mwalkerfoot.bsky.social | bit.ly/4fjxxk8

Rodri out until mid September. Congrats on rushing him back for the meaningless club World Cup. No way he is back 100% this season.

#85

I thought he would be one of those guys that comes back and plays to the same level. Crazy to rush him considering how good of a player he was and what the stakes are for City if he doesn’t recover.

Palace lost their appeal and will play in Conference League instead of Europa. Nottingham Forest take their Europa spot. That's some bullshit but at least Palace got some silverware yesterday.

Actually appreciate PSG for signing a replacement before he intended to leave on a free. Takes away a lot of the “will he-won’t he” leverage he intended to use.

The FA buries it head in the sand as the Man City case drags into year 9 and Chelsea/Abramovich don’t even face a simple audit.

Quote

Vitesse Arnhem have been kicked out of Dutch football after the civil court rejected the club’s appeal against the decision to revoke its professional licence.

The decision to penalise Vitesse in part followed a 2023 joint investigation by TBIJ and the Guardian, which found that the club had received at least €117m via a network of offshore companies that led back to Roman Abramovich, who at the time owned Chelsea.

Respect to the Chelsea players. Gave a split to Diogo Jota and his brother’s families.

Chelsea will use a portion of Club World Cup bonuses paid to players to make a financial donation to the family of Diogo Jota and Andre Silva. Full story from @adamcrafton.bsky.social here ⬇️ 🔗 https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6551143/?source=bsky_uk

that’s such an obvious red card, we couldn’t even get 15 minutes into the season without a refereeing/var controversy.
