Austin Reaves has declined a max contract extension offer from the Los Angeles Lakers that would have paid him $89.2 million over four seasons, per @DanWoikeSports (h/t @RealGM )

For his sake, hope he doesn’t get Schroder’d

I would imagine the Lakers wanted him to take it so they could trade him.

I saw the Lakers added Augustas Marciulionis to the summer league team. I am guessing he makes the Lakers opening night roster. Randy Bennett said he’s the best point guard they have ever had at Saint Mary’s and his father Sarunas happened to be okay at basketball. Anyone else here remember his dad on the 1992 team from Lithuania that wore the-dye shirts and got the bronze medal? Sarunas was a baller.

I saw Marciulionis play a few times at SMC and he’s an NBA guard. He’ll show that this summer I believe.

I was really looking forward to seeing if he could win another title suiting up only guys with extremely long arms.

That's pretty surprising.  Guess he should have taken the Knicks job a few yrs ago as was rumored.   I suspect he wont be out of work for long.

now figure out what to do with Julius

New Orleans has proved to be morons, maybe trade Randle for Murray?  Salaries are pretty close, you might be able to swap them for a couple of 2nds. Murray could be a good backcourt pairing with Ant, as he can share the ball, is a good defender and can run the offense for the 12 minutes when Ant's on the bench. I think if Murray gets out of NOLA, he will have a good bounce-back year.

Yes!  The missing piece...

BREAKING: The Chicago Bulls are trading Lonzo Ball to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Isaac Okoro, sources tell ESPN.

You and MNLonghornFUKM explain Naz Reid to me. What is the value he brings outside of shooting flat-footed threes like a really tall 60 year old?

I think he has a unique skill set. If 3 balls dropping he’s insanely good.
He’s big enough and fast enough to either back down smaller defenders or drive past slower ones.

When he has a bad game it’s pretty ugly. Maybe the pressure of a contract is off of him and he can just slow the game down next year

Looking at others in the league making 25M, he’s probably top 5 in players making that kind of money.

A lot of bad contracts out there if you look at the list of annual salaries

Welp, I would have 100% guessed wrong had you asked me an hour ago if Lonzo Ball is still in the league.

He should really help the Cavs for the 8 games a season he is healthy.

Lonzo would help the Cavs more in those 8 games than Okoro would in his usual 65-70.

He was playing every game for a few months. Then they shut him down at start of March.

He is going to the Ty Jerome minutes. It's probably a net upgrade.

Yep - Jerome gone.

The Cavs are widely expected to re-sign Sam Merrill in free agency but lose Ty Jerome, per @TheSteinLine

Meanwhile,

Free agent guard Sam Merrill intends to sign a four-year, $38 million contract to stay with the Cleveland Cavaliers, sources tell ESPN. The Cavs negotiated the new deal with Kieran Piller and Mark Bartelstein of @PrioritySports, a success story for the 60th pick in 2020 draft.

It seems the knicks had a really well thought out plan when they dumped thibs. Whatever, Dolan is a f'n douche and deserves failure.

Texas had their chance at her but went with pit stains Miller instead.

Ty Jerome averaged 19.9 mpg for the Cavs this year and I doubt Lonzo will even see that much so maybe that'll help keep him upright since it seems like can't walk 15 feet without getting hurt.

But if Lonzo can play some good defense, hit 40% from 3, and run the offense well for 15 mpg then it'll be a win.  Okoro is what he is - he's now had 5 full seasons and 334 regular season games to demonstrate he isn't anything more than a jag and isn't utterly unplayable in the playoffs.  He's failed to do that.

Okoro is also signed through the 2027 season.

Kind of wild how the #4 (Patrick Williams) and #5 picks of the 2020 draft both kind of suck and yet both got paid and now both are on the Bulls.

Ball is insurance for the inevitable Darius Garland injuries.    Now Ball isnt the most reliable in that sense but if he can be available he is a very nice option to backup Garland.

Oh NOW he opts into his player option...

Breaking: Los Angeles Lakers' LeBron James is opting into his $52.6 million player option for the 2025-26 season, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul told ESPN. Paul adds: LeBron "knows the Lakers are building for the future ... but he values a realistic chance of winning it all."

this is my favorite. He's unsure the direction or future of the lakers, but a billionaire...he opts in fully into a 52 million dollar deal  to make sure the Lakers cant add anyone aroudn him and Luka

Yeah, for having such a high basketball IQ, Lebron just doesn't care about how the team could improve by him taking say 35m a year instead, and giving them more room to work with. Getting another ring with the Lakers would be infinitely more valuable to him and his legacy than an extra 20m in salary.

#139

I'm not about the player doing these teams a favor. They need to figure it out as a front office. I'm all about the players getting as much as they can get. The player option is there for them to exercise. Do it. The Lakers front office knew what they were getting into with LeBron. And they already got a ring early on with him. You can discount it and call it a Mickey mouse ring if you'd like but it's a ring.

He's going to go down as one of the all time greats no matter what he does on the court the next few years.
How much is a slightly better legacy pay? Is it $20 million? If not he should go ahead and take the money.

This trade makes ZERO SENSE for Utah which means there has to be a much-bigger trade coming. https://t.co/9oNMfx0pXg

Isn't it just a salary dump after giving Sexton that dumb deal after the Mitchell trade?

They both have 1 year left
