No reason to trade for him when he's scheduled to be a FA in 2029.  Kid is a massive Celtics fan and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he is wearing green come October 2029.

Restricted FA. He isn’t going anywhere until 2031 or 32

Wow how edgy and funny

LAC appears to be building a contender (if this was 7 years ago)

[Charania] Three-time NBA All-Star Bradley Beal has agreed to a contract buyout with the Phoenix Suns and plans to join the Los Angeles Clippers on a two-year, $11 million deal with a player option after clearing waivers, Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports told ESPN.

The Athletics’ Clippers beat reporter is probably the most red ass Clippers fan in history, and he spent an hour shitting on Beal on the NBA Daily podcast earlier this week. Sips Kool-Aid gif.

I think he’ll retire instead

That's fucking awesome. And they have a nice little team and a good coach. He could maybe help build something going forward for them.

Except he's not playing this next season.

Meh. Kinda a refreshing change of pace to see a pro franchise show some loyalty (well, other than signing him to that supermax in the first place) to a beloved player in need of a pick me up.

Who gives a shit it's $14 million. The PR and merch takes care of that overnight.

Had* Now they traded their best scorer, have 2 geezer PGs making 50M the next 3 years. and dont have a quality starting C. I think shit changed for the crapper for that team in the last 3 weeks

i think it's cool he went back to Portland rather than ring chase as some washed up role player somewhere.

Merch? He's been gone for 2 years. He'll have the same number when he comes back. It's not like they confiscated all the Lillard merch when he left and fans have to buy new shit.

The main things with Cam is he has been more healthy than MPJ, can shoot like 40% from 3 and make his own shots in ISO. That's valuable to the Nuggets for a lot of reasons, and I think being on the court with Jokic is gonna be extremely beneficial to him. The looks he's going to get there will be so much higher quality than what he got with the Nets. He could really flourish, or he could wither in the spotlight. Will be fun to follow them, the Thunder and Rockets next year as they all vie for the top spot in the West. #1 is gonna be a very valuable position if they get to avoid the other 2 teams.

He got complete free rein in BKN to shoot every time he touched it.      It will be interesting to see whether he can be successful in a limited role for a team that is looking to play winning basketball.

I dont really like Zach Lowe but that's really all he was saying.    He put up big numbers for a team that wasnt interested in winning.  He didnt say Cam wasnt good.

youre both thinking of the wrong cam lol

Denver has Cam Johnson, who is pretty good. The Nets still have Cam Thomas, who is pretty bad.

A guy who can't shoot (Has never been his strength) and is on the wrong side of 30 will be expected to come in and do what exactly? Take passes from Luka and have the fans reliving the days of Westbrook when fans were yelling at him not to shoot? This is a guy who is cooked. Unless he goes back in time about 5 or 6 years this will not end well.

Allegedly was a Luka move

LOL, I was wondering when Thomas got traded to the Nuggets.   I just went with it

happens to the best of us. I went to a wolves game right around 1994 when I was 9. Kept telling my dad Isiah "JR" Rider  on our team was an olympian but it was actually Isiah Thomas

Smart is completely washed. He's played 54 games the past two seasons TOTAL.

I have no idea what LA expects to get out of him. Granted they also signed Ayton.

They're just throwing shit at the wall.

Seeing Marcus suit up in purple in gold will likely make me physically ill.  Seeing his stat line will please me greatly.

You're right. I didn't think anyone would give a shit enough to write anything about the shitty Cam. My bad.

Cam Johnson will be interesting to watch this season. He will finally have a real point guard who is incredible at creating open looks, and he has a much higher shooting % than MPJ did. What they lose in defense may be greatly out gained in offense. Nuggets fans should be very high on their team now.

MPJ is an atrocious defender - I have no idea where you're getting it from that he isn't or that Cam Johnson is worse.

They are pretty comparable scorers and MPJ can shoot the shit out of the ball but Cam should get a Jokic bump.

Cam is just a straight up better player in general. It's a huge get for Denver.

I have followed his career since he left Lancaster to go play for Flower Mound Marcus. He has never been a player I have cared much for. Unless he pulls a 2020 Rondo this is a wasted roster spot.

The only guys that have ever suited up for the Purple and Gold I did not root for were Smush Parker and Chris Mihm. I remember the Lakers getting Mihm and he put up an age 25 stat line almost identical to the one Vlade Divac had when he was THIRTY-FIVE. Mihm wasn’t a winner and was soft. Smart has an edge about him, but never learned to shoot. I‘ll root for Smart, but only until he inevitably crashes and burns.

I think he's more likely to fade away more than crash and burn.  Dude has been hard on his body and only played 54 games total the last 2 seasons combined.

I think MPJ has been a good (above average) defender in the past, but last year he had some shoulder issues that really impacted both his offense and defense. I don't think last year is the best one to consider for his future defensive value, he was obviously hobbled but kept playing due to necessity. I would think after a full off-season he will come back into form. But I would agree that last year he was pretty bad on D.

Cam is not a good defender though. Now whether that is because he was on a shitty team with the Nets, had a bad coach, or just didn't care about defense, I don't know. Certainly there is room for him to grow, and a huge incentive for him to play hard both ways in Denver, but I don't think it's going to have a huge impact. He will the the third/fourth option on this offense and will need to make his money via sharp shooting and being a team player.

MPJ when healthy is a better defender overall, maybe only by a few points per possession. However, swapping them and getting Cam who is about ~6% better at hitting 3s may end up being a huge win for Denver.

Dude - what the fuck are you talking about? Are you just making shit up on this thread to rage-bait me? Are you copy-pasting AI shit in here?

First - "a few points per possession" is a huge fucking difference and - no - MPJ is not that much better on defense if he's better at all.

Second - where are you seeing that Cam Johnson is 6% better from 3 than MPJ?

I seriously don't understand where you are coning up with this shit. Cam Johnson could not be a more obvious upgrade over MPJ. Brooklyn got completely fleeced in that trade.

Not really surprising that he went back to LA.   His family stayed behind there the last few yrs while he has bounced around the league.

If I'm the Lakers, I'd take CP3 100 times out of 100 over Smart. Odd. Unless Paul had no interest in being part of the circus.

MPJ is bad on defense.  Nuggets not losing anything there.  I'm a big fan of the moves they made this offseason.  They finally have a legit NBA bench.

Clips are the same thing they've been for the last 10 yrs or so.   Just a team with a bunch of big name players

Yup. I'm gonna need them to somehow get gimpy Paul George back on this roster before I can justify the use of the "contending" descriptor

MPJ profiles as a good defender because of his length and rebounding ability. Then he steps on the court. He showed some promising steps forward in 2023 then was awful in 2024 and awful/hurt in 2025. Now that he’s on the Nets, I doubt he ever becomes even a middling defender.

I’ll take Cam Johnson all day because I’m trading elite (but streaky?) wing shooting for good wing shooting and an uptick in everything else.  The next time MPJ puts the ball on the floor and makes a play will probably be the first time.

Not to mention saving $17 million in cap space at the same time.

Why not?   Still get paid significant money to do something that you still love and can do at a relatively high level

And live back at home for the first time in a long time.

His family never left LA and he'd only go to Western Conference teams where he could take a quick private flight back home.
