Staley would’ve been the better hire.

I seriously doubt that. Not because she's a woman, but because she isn't remotely qualified. Just like Auriemma isn't qualified.

I'd probably hire Becky Hammon over Mike Brown, though.

As many know from the season thread, Ayton is my least favorite player in the league.

Well Ayton is better than Hayes so he’s got that going for him. Then again almost every center in the league is better than Hayes. If he’s motivated and not acting like a child I’m okay with Ayton. Perhaps Luka can help resurrect his career. Not a big investment made in him so this is fine.

Ayton is a top ten center talent imo.  Above average athleticism and skills. But he just doesn’t fit what plays well with Luka.  A guy that is springy and that will get downhill on a pick and roll

Don’t love his attitude. He also has a shit look on his face and isn’t as good as he thinks he is

seems to be a decent mid range shooter and when I watched him with KD early he looked above average

Durant wanted to fucking kill him by the end of that playoff run.

He's a fucking disaster. Extremely glad the Lakers took a flyer on him.

What do you mean? LeBron famously loves teammates with poor effort and bad attitude!

Unless Ayton attached himself to Tyson Chandler’s hip for the past few months to learn how to set a pick and roll hard to the rim, I’ll give it until December 1 before LeBron is sick of his shit

SGA took almost 100 more free throws in the playoffs this year than Ayton has taken in the past 2 seasons combined. Shai took more free throws in 2 different series (63 Denver, 70 Indiana) than Ayton did all year (60).

Simmer down with the fucking memes, bro.

He hasn't played with Ayton yet.

Damn it really is crazy to think that Lebron ever since Cleveland has had a cast that makes just about any other NBA star blush.

If I look at his stats from his Phoenix days he looks like a good player. Watching him play though you see a guy who almost never gives maximum effort. He does just enough to get paid really well to play basketball for a living. I don’t really fault a guy for not loving his profession. If someone wants to pay you millions to play a sport you may not really enjoy you either take the money and act like Ayton does or you retire and get no more paydays.

Again I am fine with signing him because the cost is minimal. 8 million is nothing. He plays well then that’s a bonus. If he plays average to mediocre then he’s still better than the extremely low bar set by Hayes.

It's a bit presumptuous to assume that Lebron will be on the Lakers at the beginning of the season.

He played decently well when Chris Paul was riding him and setting him up in Phoenix. Maybe Luka and LeBron can get him going a bit.

Jesus, other than AD and Kyrie, that is one very sad group.

Justin Timberlake What GIF

Anybody want to take a stab at ranking the west right now?

Tier 1: OKC, DEN, HOU

Tier 2: MIN, LAC

Tier 3: DAL (I'd have them tier 2 with a healthy Kyrie), LAL, GSW

Tier 4: MEM, SAC, SAS, POR, PHX

Tier 5: NOLA, UTAH

OKC/Denver

Houston, Minnesota, Clippers

GS, Lakers, Mavs, Spurs

Memphis, Portland, Suns

Kings, Jazz, Pelicans

Look prety good to me.

Deandre Ayton is one of the worst #1 picks ever yet amazingly he isn't the worst pick in the 2018 draft. When people wonder why teams like Sacramento never seems to be able to compete, imagine Luka Doncic SGA and Jalen Brunson being available and you wind up with Marvin Bagley III.

One of the worst picks I can remember. Even in the moment. Luka's floor was "maybe he won't have the athleticism to dominate the NBA, but he's going to be a solid pro for a lot of years." Sacramento took a flyer on a big--when, at that point, the game shifting to the perimeter was obvious to see--because he "filled a position of need" for a team that was nowhere near competing for a title. Staggeringly dumb.

OKC

HOU, DEN, MIN

LAL, GSW, LAC, SAS

DAL, MEM

SAC, PHO, POR

UTA, NOP

OKC deserves to be in their own tier and I'm putting Minny with DEN and HOU after 2 straight WCF.

I bumped the Spurs a tier because I think those are the 8 playoff teams but I could see any 4 teams of those 6 in the middle sneaking in. A lot of it is health-dependent esp for GSW, DAL and LAC.

Portland is probably the best of that bottom 5.

Haha, that’d be welcomed

Fuck that guy if he pulls that.  Is playing time more important to him than a shot at a ring?

OKC is in a tier by themselves.

Denver, Houston, and The Great White North in the second tier.

LAL, LAC, GSW in the third tier.

Memphis is solidly a playoff team, probably.

Play in: Portland, Dallas, Sacramento.

Lottery: NOLA, Utah, Phoenix.

This is the closest.

1.  OKC/Denver -- they've actually won the whole thing

1A. Houston

2.  Minny, Clips, Mavs (if healthy), maybe the Spurs.  (I think SA surprises some people this year

3.  Lakers, GS.  Both rosters have 2-3 good players and not much else.

Churn after that.

I don't think you'll see as much separation between the 1 seed and the rest of the pack.  OKC was ahead of #2 by what, 14 games?  2-6 were pretty glommed up. I think 1-3 will be family close and then you'll have the 4-8 teams.  That makes that #1 seed very valuable.  Say OKC is #1 and they wouldn't have to play either Denver or Houston until the WCF and then only one of them.

You legit didn't even mention SA. Lol. I get not being high on them or ranking them 3rd tier. But a non mention is insulting.

damn...He would've been the perfect Joker back up. Ive always thought he was solid even when on shitty teams. much better back up than say what Horford could give you at his age. but Horford is better than nobody I guess

[Stein] It seems unlikely that Denver would force Valanciunas to stay in the NBA if he is willing to forfeit his $10.4 million NBA salary for next season. Al Horford is likely to sign with Golden State.

huge blow for Denver. deandre jordan run it back? lol

Yeah this is really shitty if it comes to fruition. Am/was so excited for Val and the potential for him and Jokic both on the floor at times in the playoffs. Fingers crossed it’s a negotiating tactic to get his 2nd year guaranteed.

Horford to the Dubs would be kind of funny. Basically the Golden Girls Warriors. Retirement home team

Not really understanding the logic of the Griz trading huff to the pacers. They picked up Landale off the scrap heap. It seems like a big downgrade.

The pacers get a guy who is 80% of turner on a cheap contract.

Not sure I see 30 minutes and 20 shots a game for Whitmore in DC. They just drafted Tre, and Middleton, Poole, McCollum are going to get theirs no matter what.

I thought Whitmore was more 30 shots in 20 minutes

So Cam has to dog walk Tre in practice to probably get his minutes right? I just don’t see it happening.

He can get 20 mins a night pretty easily. Tre is going to play the 2 and the 3.

Sure, but he’s probably behind McCollum, Middleton, and Tre in their rotation.
