June 23Jun 23 So, still cleaning out my parents' house and stuff. I got to the LPs this weekend. They have a lot of stuff, including stuff that NOBODY is interested in (seriously, you needed 15 collections of Spanish music/bullfighting tunes?) But others that are.....interesting, including a couple from my youth that ended up in their collection. So, enjoy.I need to get a turntable. Will definitely give this a listen:
June 23Jun 23 Author And how smooth are you? Not as smooth as this guy.Wanna listen to some Streisand? They had all the Streisand. You know you wanna party with these BAMFs.
June 23Jun 23 Author Don’t you dare say my folks weren’t worldly and cultured. But they were not immune to the charms of disco greatness.Momma was a NOLA girl, and it showed. Finally, some relics of my youth.
June 23Jun 23 Ha! My sister used to work as a pianist accompanying vocal students for Julio's brother Franco Iglesias, in his penthouse apt above Lincoln Center. I never connected the dots until I went to meet up with her, used the bathroom and saw a photo of Julio & Franco above the toilet. "Holy shit, this is Julio Iglesias' brother!" 'twas indeed. Vocal coach to the stars, including Placido Domingo.
June 23Jun 23 I saw Julio at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in ‘85 or ‘86. He had a backup singer that joined him for a duet. She had the most impressive range I have seen to this day. And that old dude worked the crowd and had thousands of middle aged and above women eating out of his hand. The Dome smelled like esteogen that night. Or estrogen replacement therapy drugs anyway.
June 23Jun 23 We had the very same Puff, The Magic Dragon album. I'd forgotten about that album cover until seeing your post. I always thought was pretty damn scary looking with that mouthful of sharp teeth and those dagger-esque claws.
June 24Jun 24 Keep digging, and I'm almost certain you'll find Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass's Whipped Cream. Pretty much everyone had that back in the day and it holds up. Edited June 24Jun 24 by dcbc

My brother and me were enthralled by that album cover. All these years later, I’m still enthralled by that album cover.
June 24Jun 24 For the very few who don't know this -- A&M Records was founded by Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss.

June 24Jun 24 I'm an old Millenial raised by very tail end Boomers. My folks graduated in '77. My old man's record collection was full of the classics and hugely influential on my taste as an adult. Lots of Steely Dan, Zeppelin, Stones, Deep Purple, Petty, GNR. My old man kept up with contemporary music well into his 30's, so even though I was in grade school when grunge exploded, the Big 4 were a huge part of what I was musically exposed to.

So unlike Brisket's parents your dad owned some good records.
June 25Jun 25 Author So unlike Brisket's parents your dad owned some good records. I’d argue if I could. I think their CD and cassette collection has some good country, but dear god…there are probably 1,000 of them. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

Will definitely give this a listen: Can we see what an album of bullfighting tunes looks like? I don’t know about 15, but I’d listen to one. And speaking of Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, my parents had their greatest hits album so I’m familiar with this:

She was born in '46. Granted I'm sure there were plenty of awful records and cassettes lost over the years.

Gotta tell ya, I’m pretty impressed with those choices. How old was your grandmother? edit: nevermind, I see she was born in ‘46. Edited June 25Jun 25 by Vanilla Strange Gato
June 25Jun 25 Author Or…how about this? What is this shit? Either of my parents owned a guitar or ever even tried to play one.

I think it would be perfect for a funeral reception.
June 25Jun 25 If you find this one .. You could have this hiding beneath the cover … I bought the album in Austin in ~1967. When the controversy broke, I figured it was worth a shot to steam off the “trunk” cover. It was worth it.

I’ve read that Stereo, which mine is, is more valuable also because Mono was still the prevalent audio mode when it was released. Edited June 25Jun 25 by VirginiaLonghorn

I wore all 3 of those out. he also had a dual cassette deck where the cassettes laid flat side by side. this is mid 70's. I tried to find a pic of one but couldn't. I remember making mix tapes before they were called "mix tapes".
