Extended family has a house in Sandpoint, about an hour north of CDA. Spend many years going there. They also own several acres in Clark, MT along the Clark Fork River. Spend many weekends with my cousins and brother camping and fishing for Pike. In all my years up there, we never had any issues or saw anything, but we werent looking for it either. I guess in and around the tourist areas of the lake and Schweitzer Mt they would likely not be as obvious. Couple times we would stay at the resort in CDA if we had a late of enough flight out of Spokane. Always enjoyed both CDA and Sandpoint. Very remote up there, its only about 60 miles south of Canadian border where we camped and fished. View from above our campsite down river a 1/5 mile, near the damn.
June 30Jun 30 I spent time in Sandpoint Idaho, because my parents had a timeshare there. It is a very beautiful part of the country, but even 40 years ago, the place was chock full of white supremacists.
June 30Jun 30 Everyone is rushing to uncover stuff on the murderer and his family. Lots of stuff out there, probably best to give it awhile to let more facts get verified. I do think the kid is going to end up being your typical school shooter type, but decided to shoot firefighters instead of kids.

June 30Jun 30 Clark, MT is probably the windiest place on earth. nm I’m thinking of Clark, WY. You’re wrong, it’s Tarifa, Spain. In 2004, while living in Washington, I took my (then) girlfriend to CDA, to her parent’s timeshare. We ended up at a dive bar playing pool. The gentlemen we were playing against didn’t like me/us very much. I chalked (hehe) it up to us constantly winning. She and I switched to darts, in order to separate us from the crowd of dipshits. But that didn’t help us when we closed out and left. When we got to my truck, two of the guys inside had followed us outside, and done a hell of a job being quiet about it. She screamed, and I immediately threw a left cross at the guy rounding my tailgate. Then, I made it to her, on my passenger side, and she’d kicked the other guy in the balls so hard that he probably sounds like a tenor to this day. I kicked him in his ribs, for good measure, wheeled around to my side of the truck, moved the first dipshit away from my truck, and exited the parking lot safely. I played golf the next day at the island course at CDA. And we drove back to the Tri-Cities. I’m older now. And there in hindsight, should’ve heeded the warnings about CDA from some of my friends at the time. I get it now, and always will. Fuck those pieces of shit.

July 1Jul 1 The problem with Northern Idaho is way bigger than this president. In some ways, he’s a symptom of the same problems that created the situation there. As soon as I heard someone was shooting at firefighters I assumed it would be Coeur d’Alene

When they were there, it was more in the Bonners Ferry area which is a little farther north. The locals also say that they like the implication as it keeps the Washington and Californian coastals from increasing housing prices.

July 1Jul 1 I live in CDA…. Part time. My wife and kids live there full time. I live the other part of the time in the east bay due to work. CDA is awesome. Beautiful, clean, safe. Super nice people. Coming from the east bay, it’s at first a bit shocking how white it is. I’m Asian. I’m not saying there isn’t a presence of racism there but I’ve never seen it. Nothing close to it frankly. I see more racism in the Bay Area by a long shot. That probably has way more to do with congestion and socioeconomic forces than it does to “good people” vs “bad people.”
July 1Jul 1 Popular Post Don’t get the bitching. The date suggested Nazi as per early reports. White supremicist terrorists have been the number one domestic threat for a long fucking time. Welcome to reality.

Buddy grew up and has a lake house about 45 minutes away, on the WA side of the border (headed over there in a couple of weeks). Priest River and up towards Priest Lake is where you'll find a lot more of the white supremacist crowd (and Bonners Ferry, as you mentioned). Oddly enough, Pend Oreille county on the WA side is certainly very conservative but not quite the same vibe as across the river; I've enjoyed visits to the tiny county fair and other community events there. It's probably because it's close enough to Spokane to get the weekender lake house people. (If you’re ever in Usk, you owe it to yourself to stop by Mellany's for a shockingly good meal made by the kindest people you'll ever meet.)

July 1Jul 1 Some new reporting overnight: https://apnews.com/article/coeur-dalene-idaho-shooting-firefighters-024d26274e0faacec1687f6dde789ced COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho (AP) — A man who started a wildfire and then fatally shot two firefighters and wounded another in northern Idaho was a 20-year-old transient who attacked the first responders after they asked him to move his vehicle, a sheriff said Monday. Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris offered new details about the Sunday confrontation at Canfield Mountain, just north of Coeur d’Alene, a popular recreation area. He said Wess Roley was living out of his vehicle, had once aspired to be a firefighter and had only a handful of minor contacts with area police. “We have not been able to find a manifesto,” the sheriff said, adding a motive was still unknown. Norris said families of the victims are “in shock — absolutely. They’re in shock and they’re still processing it.” ... Roley had set a fire using flint, and the firefighters who rushed to the scene instead found themselves under fire. They took cover behind fire trucks. “There was an interaction with the firefighters,” Norris said. “It has something to do with his vehicle being parked where it was.”

Are you sure the type of gun being referenced in the news reports meets the textbook definition of said gun? Show us the ballistics data and the experts here will set everyone straight on why it isn't what we all know it is.

He loved to hit the lights and sirens and speed to the fire, so he’d go out in the country, set fires, and then go back to town and conveniently be near the fire barn when the 911 calls came in. Finally got busted. A couple of volunteer firemen dipshits I went to high school with would burn abandoned houses in the poor part town just so they could ride the firetruck and put them out. Finally got busted.
