July 3Jul 3 Some great news after a week of shit. Hopefully the start to a string of quality commits.
July 3Jul 3 Sam Spiegelman: Texas scores commitment from 4-star LB Kosi Okpala Quote Texas has made a habit out of hosting in-state linebacker target Kosi Okpala this year. The four-star linebacker from Houston (Texas) Mayde Creek declared for the Longhorns — choosing to play for Texas over Houston, Penn State, North Carolina, Baylor and others. After a string of visits from Houston to Austin, including an official visit on June 20 weekend, Okpala’s mind was made up. Okpala was leaning toward the Longhorns for much of the off-season. His mind made up before leaving to return home. “Texas was the right choice because the coach and the staff and the players and the connections I’ve built throughout my recruiting process,” Okpala told Rivals. “Taking the final official visit made me realize this is the right choice for me and what I’m trying to achieve.” “What made this visit seal the deal was really the process of taking all of these visits,” he elaborated. “I’ve seen a lot of schools I’ve had great relationships with coaches at all of them … but overall Texas was the best fit and this visit showed me that.” Okapala has been a top target for Steve Sarkisian, Pete Kwiatkowski and Johnny Nansen. That theme has continued as the Longhorns look for reinforcements in the middle of their defense. “I love my fit at Texas. It provides me with a lot of versatility for what I wanna do at the next level and I have trust in PK and Coach Sark and Coach Nansen will put me in the best position to succeed,” Okapla explained. “I’m excited to get here and to work because I think this program will compete for lot of national championships.” After returning to Austin for Longhorn City Limits, the arrow has been pointing up for Texas in this race. He has been to Texas more than any other contender — and no relationships are stronger. “The communication is great. My bond with the whole staff is, too,” the four-star LB said. “I talk to almost every coach there. I know everyone and they know me. It was a good time over there.” “They’re doing a lot. I’ve been talking to Sark and everyone on the staff. It feels like a real family vibe,” Okapala continued. “I love the versatility in practice. They’re doing a lot with the edges off the ball on the line. The versatility in their defense fits me … it matches my skill-set.”

July 4Jul 4 On OTF he said he brings versatility as a LB, but admitted he sees himself as more of an edge. His coaches talked about how the concept of “positionless football” was perfect for Kosi. I’m glad we beat out Penn State, because they would seem to have a great track record to sell, with Parsons/Abdul Carter as prototypes. His tape is great, deserves more hype as a pick-up. http://www.hudl.com/video/3/15261697/67327a3f001106a963bc9658
