UCN TEXAS FLOOD RESPONSE:

UNITED CAJUN NAVY FORWARD TEAMS are on the ground in Texas.

Texas Volunteers: Standby.
Tomorrow, we will be posting a call to action for volunteers in the area along with what to bring and where to meet.

If you’d like to help or volunteer, please go to:

Thank you! 🙏🏼

I can only speak for the two sets of parents my cousins know who have missing 8 year olds but if any names of those rescued are learned these loved ones merely want updates.

my cousin’s husband is a sheriff in a neighboring county so I am also getting updates and I will post anything I learn (besides names of those found deceased.)

is there a way we can start a surly fundraiser?

If they determine their resources are needed, you can presumably donate on the homepage.

They are one of my recurring monthly donations. Run by Chef Jose Andres. They do amazing work.

if it's anything like i experienced in harvey, most important thing was able bodies on the ground to help with rescues.

government while obviously important takes too long, people have to save their fellow people.

Flood is over before they get here.

Logistics is what commands response.

Unfortunately another nonprofit that will be needing assistance down the road will be Texas Equusearch. They will be helping with recovery efforts and I have volunteered with them in the past. They have done so many amazing things. It’s just that their job is finding the missing. And I know they will be coming in after rescue efforts are not thought to be feasible.

This is a challenge, but we have models. And they work.

1- Take care of those who need help. Food, shelter, clothing.

2- Analyze the impact and reality (this is what hurts)

3- Assess rebuild. What matters (This also hurts, and can be short sighted)

So what do people need for the next 96 hours?

Underwear and sock. Clean water. Access to a place to shit.

Mid term?

Assistance in debris removal. wet sheet rock is a bitch.

Sanitizing floors. Air Vents (Overlooked)

Long term.

Hope.

I was at a table today with some Longhorns and 1 Aggie. I said, hey, lets go up and help out. I have the gear. Only one who said lets go is the Aggie. @Homesickhorn is a good POC on the ground.

We are fucking Texans. Lets prove it.

Sorry for the post in wrong thread here is another place to donate also.

Edited by Nicole44

Following.   Any links for monetary help please post them and I pray you God they find those girls

As we start to see reality, and we all want to go in. Don't. Monday-Tuesday. Yeah, it sucks. But don't.

Do not start sending cash to groups, especially one like Nicole posted who used a Blackhawk in the post.

Just don't.

This shit ain't done.

But don't give cash or donations to ANYONE right now.

Sorry, I hate I was taught to do this.

1. Do not overreact and try and rush in. We have Surly's there. Let them guide.

2. What people need is usually not what we think the need.

3. I am not kidding about clean water. The first think I tossed into my kit for monday were life straws. That is 100K gallons. Their water is fucked.

4. Don't send shit you want to get rid of.

5. Do not send medicine. At all.

6. Simple food.

7. Uno.. A great game. Fathers and Mothers worry about the impact on their kids. they overthink it. A game of UNO evens that.

Not trying to be a dick at all. I apologize.

Could you dial back the condescension?  You seem to have some experience at this, maybe just try to outline your recommendations very clearly and let people do what they can.

sorry man. trying to juggle a few things.

muck and drywall is a tomorrow problem.  Feeding people is a today problem.

This one yes. By the time the food is needed it will be solved. And he get 3.50 from me. But on this one? Nah.

We have brother and sisters on the ground. Go Direct. Shit, HEB will beat USAA, State Farm and the National Guard there.

My brother, please understand that people are trying to help however they can. You are an angel that you can help directly. Not everyone can be boots on the ground. Donating money to an organization like WCK will provide meals to hungry victims and relief workers. Let’s be careful to not crap on those trying to help.

Just got back from the area. The storm really messed up that hunt/ingram/centerpoint stretch. It’s total devastation. I have family and friends that are completely stuck just waiting on the national guard to come get them.

This is like a mini version of what happened in North Carolina/appalachia earlier this year. Us Texans can knock this out and get these people what they need. They’re dealing with losing loved ones.

Not sure what you’re asking but I’ll give it a stab-

I assumed all low water crossings into the area were destroyed or covered in debris but they seem to have held up better than expected. The state has been bussing people out, I don’t have details how the people get out. My best guess is they’re using military vehicles to cross a small stretch of impassible roadway. I bet the roads doing well is saving lots of old peoples lives.

To be clear, it’s my impression the roads held up better than feared and it’s helping a lot with evacuations.

Do share logistical information like roads and such, it matters here.
We’re presently out of state. We’ve already sent our first round of money to WCK and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (a lot of the denominational church groups really do great with community-level response, the Baptists also have a good setup - we’re just friends with the head of PDA, so communicated with her directly).

My friend Vicki, who used to run the main local aid org (an offshoot of Wimberley UMC) for the Wimberley floods and who now works for FEMA, sent me this link:

Where is the best place I can send $? Dollar for dollar.

The smaller the org or more personal the better.

I live in Kerrville. We went thru Center Point and Comfort earlier. The roads that direction are mostly fine. It is definitely a disaster area, though. Did not go west because thats where emergency crews ar and don't want to interfere with their work.

Let me know when your people need help with recovery and let me know on a need basis . Id prefer an old couple that was under insured and needs immediate clean up and restoration or helping a camp. Or Road clearing. Or more urgent stuff.  I do Not like to stand around.

I have two vacant tiny houses on a hilltop outside Comfort on Skyline Drive that can be used for short term temporary housing. I don't know who to connect with.

@Homesickhorn and @InkaUtexas may be good resources for you.

Comfort seems like a good staging area given that it’s close enough to Kerrville, and at the same time, is far enough away as to not step on first responder toes.

My family will be donating to the Hunt Methodist Church. The pastor opened the church to all of us yesterday around 4am and we were there until the national guard started taking people out around 5pm. We had ~90-100 people there, many who were missing family members and/or were injured pretty badly, and everyone came together to donate water, snacks, etc. Unfortunately because everyone left so abruptly in the evening, the church was left in quite a bit of disarray. The pastor and his wife left as well as we were told the Schumacher crossing might not make it.

My wife and I want to know the names of rescues that are willing to have Houston fosters for rescued animals. Is it KPi? We’re generous with money but also want to know who will accept fosters as far away as Houston.

Hi everyone.  We live between Ingram & Hunt.

Here is how you can help:

We are set up at City West Church with food for first responders.  Other locations that are feeding folks are The Kerr County Youth Event Center (The Ag Barn) and Cross Kingdom Church.  We have plenty of volunteers and food at City West.  There may be needs at the other two locations.

For those wanted to help with search, please meet at the Centerpoint Fire Dept tomorrow morning.  Harry Holt is the coordinator.  Ask for Harry when you get to the station.  We had around 200 searchers today, but will not have the folks tomorrow, so help is greatly needed.  There are piles of debris 20-25 feet high and this all needs to be gone through.  We do not need any equipment, just people willing to work.

For those inclined, please give to a nonprofit that will help Kerr County folks and not pocket the $.  REK's non profit is good (he is a local).  Another is Blind Faith Foundation, which is located in Ingram and the head of it is a friend of mine.  For those that cannot give or help out, we would appreciate your prayers.

I have been around for over six decades and have never seen devastation like this.

God Bless Ya'll.  West Kerr Horn

For every dollar you donate, my law firm will donate two.

We’re looking to raise $18,000 by collecting up to $6,000 in donations to the Kerr County Relief Fund operated by the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country. Go to the following link to make your donation and in the section at the end regarding “Tribute Information,” enter “Slingshot Law” and choose to notify angie@slingshotlaw.com.

What can I bring you? Heading to HEB. Overnight in a safe place near, coming into Kerrville in the AM. I will drop off water at your location and if you have any other requests let me know.

DM is best.
