I agree with @immamac. It’s fairly straightforward to figure out what becomes CR and what is just news, for the most part.

And while I dislike the maga crowd with the heat of a thousand suns, I don’t want to scroll thru news threads and constantly have to read the same 10-20 posters bitch about the stupidity of the Republican Party.  Why not? Because they are doing so many stupid things these days it’s turned into a constant barrage of stupidity.  Every fucking day Trump and his staff do something stupid, illegal, or immoral. And people, myself included, just can’t take that misery constantly every day. It’s too depressing. Just keep that shit in a CR thread and it’s manageable.

You’re not wrong to a large extent, but my beef is that imma and blacklab have created and reinforced an environment where the MAGA cabal can screech “no CR!!!!” on shit that’s pretty damn benign and they immediately jump in to save their feelings. They’ve catered to and coddled that crowd for so long that they have the privilege of dictating any discussion which remotely strays into politics which, has been discussed ad nauseum, is pretty many current event these days. It’s tiresome that one group gets to dictate the discussion here. If the mods would tell the MAGA cabal to STFU and grow up every now and then you might see people not get so wound up about the inconsistency in moderation here. Maybe not, but we’ll never know because the mods have taken a hardline position that MAGA is a protected class.

With the new information that we who are paying attention were expecting, about the number of missing, that means the dead actually are double or triple what the number was when Trump issued his statement saying it could have been double or triple what it is.

guess he’s unintentionally agreeing that the efforts didn’t save lives.  At least, not the pre-flood efforts. I’m sure the reacue ops saved some lives but most people either saved themselves…or didn’t.

I always read that complaint from the CR crowd, but personally I haven’t seen it. Not saying it’s not happening. I just haven’t noticed it. And it’s difficult for me to believe @immamac is doing much of that because he’s politically pretty reasonable. Bob too.

Did I just see that Hot Wheels said to reporters today that "we were ready" for this?

i used to think the issue didn't exist despite what i had been told, but i have now seen enough evidence of it, and the 'invisible dot' is apropos

it is most evident to me in situations where there are 2 or more threads spanning both DT and CR

imma is trying to enforce something that defies logic and language so i feel empathy for him and understand when he blows a gasket

@Dbeasy please go back one page and read my posts #1130 and #1131 and reply with your take on imma's assertion that 1 of those 2 posts is what imma says they are, i.e. which one of them is opinion:

Thing is, up until now in this moment, I think we all knew we are at war.  At war against ignorance, apathy, greed, you name the fucking sin and the Establishment elite (GOP) not only commits it but telegraphs it beforehand by accusing YOU of it.  All accusations are a confession is 110% accurate.  We all know this.  War against science, against reason, against goddamned slap you in the face facts. But until now the casualties were others.  The browns, the blacks, the queers, the “well they must have done something to deserve it whether it was this or not” kinda thing.   Now we have dead innocent little white kids.  I am truly heartbroken and sad about what happened to every victim in this flood and their families.  IF fucking ONLY our fellow so called fucking citizens could feel the same way about everyone else who suffers similarly.

Holy shit what a meltdown. I’m only going say this once and I’m sure it won’t make a difference, but the problem with daily Texan comes down to the fact that sane people post relevant, pertinent facts that are in context, and then the window lickers scream “no cloakroom!!!” Sane people explain how something is reasonable and important to the conversation at hand, and then there is a bunch of posts going back-and-forth with a total thread derailment that gets blamed on the wrong people. It’s basically letting your toddler control the house. But hey, it’s their house.

that is Correct.

We should be ashamed of ourselves for being pulled offsides by self fellating chud babies with an aversion to reality and a hatred of empathy.

Clearly we need to post differently and make sure we coddle some of the most malignant and negative contributors to this website.

It would be funny if it didn’t become the defining aspect of any non sports forum on the site. That and the stupid fucking trope of numerically ranking which chick you would fuck in any given posted photo.

I'm curious about how this site makes money (besides donations).  Does post count ratchet the $?

If so, it seems to me that a consolidated DT/CR would be ideal.  Call it "Lord Of The Flies".

Team MAGA would Karen up and find somewhere else to complain about the politicization of America.

Probably the football board.

There's stuff that is definitely blurry and worthy of news thread inclusion, then there's obvious shit that isn't.

The problem isn't the blurry stuff, it's the other stuff and people repeatedly knowing that they are taking direct partisan and straight up political talking points and injecting them into a discussion about an event.

It doesn't move the conversation forward and it doesn't inform anyone who's coming in as a lurker about information they should have about the event as a news story. The discussions about what should happen etc are all very political by definition, what has happenned and why is also political but part of the factual basis of what happened and is important context to the event.

A really easy way to figure out what isn't in the grey area is thinking about the discussion in a frame of

"am I opining on what should happen and what political things need to happen to make that happen?" That's CR.

"Do I think previous decisions made by people who are and have been in charge directly provide context into the event?" That's CR

"these were the laws and here's who signed them or proposed them and what were actions that led to the event" not CR and important context.

Its really easy to see how 2 don't belong in the news thread and how they belong in a thread like this focused on discussion.

News/major event threads should be summary commentary, new developments and general reactions. Discussions shouldn't really be the focal point of the threads that are predominantly there for active events.

There are threads in the daily Texan that are all about discussion and opining about things, but event threads and active breaking news threads don't have that focus for pretty obvious reason.

So why do you lock down the thread that is in the CR?

Make it make sense.

The problem is the right wing have deemed everything that could possibly challenge their worldview as “political”.  Weather, science, people being gay, discrimination, history, and on and on.   The orangeshitbag took it to infinity.

Imagine if we tried to tackle the ozone crisis today instead of the late 90s.  Zero chance it would be addressed in today’s idiotverse.   Hell even back then, shitheels like Rush Limbaugh were mocking the ozone and the steps being taken to address it, but his microphone paled in comparison to the moron magaphones of today.

He has no problem blaming 65 million brown people for a handful of crimes

Which a decade later has almost universally been a complete disaster for them.

The idiots at texags are pissed that this is being politicized. I haven’t seen many people politicizing this issue as much as it should be. I’m honestly shocked that this and the Epstein dismissal aren’t being politicized more than they are.
