RRR is also expensive...but pretty purposely secular, and diverse. just fyi for anybody curious about hill country alternatives. my niece went for 10 years, i'm convinced it's where her love/obsession with nature and conservancy originated.

also... their bunkhouses are all up on a bluff above the Blanco. she was there in 2015, but they just lost some of the common riverfront gathering areas.

Wait why was Dog Killer at the press conference?

Secretary of Homeland Security.  And she cares.  No, really.  She cares a lot.  And blames the NWS for the whole thing.

A properly functioning press would have asked about the vacancies at the NWS, tied it to DOGE, and hung it around her neck. Now, even NPR has fallen.

make sure Texas doesn't spend any money looking for brown people

The bolded part is the reason why it won't be like Uvalde

Don’t worry. They’ll reward statewide leadership across the board when the time comes, by steadfastly giving them a literal vote of confidence and return them to office.
Big freeze and outage. Uvalde. Kerrville. These events are Texas working as designed and intended, and we must LOVE it, because we keep returning the people who designed those policies and systems to office.
The dead Texans is what tells you things are working.

They got huge tax breaks, but for the record I don't think they deserved to lose their children. I oppose all forms of excessive punishment, regardless of party affiliation, race, or immigration status.

What in gods name are chop Roy and briscoe Cain even talking about with ‘big gov taking advantage as a result of this’… wtf does that even mean

It means what it always means to these idiot monsters.

"Government" is always an other to be smothered and not a collective "we" that functions as a means to better ends.

It's no coincidence that anti-government Republicans are lockstep with end-times religious fundamentalists.

They see it as the end itself. The primary goal.

And with that also, The narrative that media is “left wing/liberal” should be dead.

I’m serious though, like what ‘big govt’ monster could even come from this?? … siren systems? More nws resources? More state oversight on campgrounds?

They want to stop financially supporting organizations like nws, NOAA, npr, etc.... that's money that can go to rich people through lower taxes. They don't even hide the fact.

They’re government employees bemoaning how undesirable governance is after themselves repeatedly failing to protect the public, so people regard them as an authority on the matter.

It's almost like when people are pretending to understand the motivations, likes and dislikes, etc. of an all-powerful, all-knowing, eternal, invisible, mute god type creature.... things get complicated pretty fucking quick. "Yay! I prayed for it and got that big raise I've been wanting at work! Thanks God, you did it!"

"What about all those children who died horrible deaths."

"(distracted) Um, whatever. Mysterious ways, or something. Anyway...."

I know some of my responses in the post below may sound out of character for me, but I woke up at 3 a.m. haunted by dreams of those kids—and after reading a few of the comments, I felt the need to respond, especially to the personal attacks.

To those accusing me of “politicizing a tragedy,” please: read the post again. There is nothing political about asking hard questions when more than 70 lives have been lost. Holding public officials accountable isn’t partisanship. It’s journalism. If seeking the truth is now considered “political,” that says more about our broken discourse than it does about me.
And enough with the “too soon” crowd. Too soon? Let me remind you—a teenage boy swept away in the 2007 Cow Creek flood was never found. Two little girls disappeared in the 2015 Wimberley flood and have still never been found. How long exactly should we wait to ask why this happened?

This is news. It’s unfolding now. Parents are grieving now. People are looking for answers now. If I were the parent of one of those missing children, I would demand those answers immediately. Silence doesn’t honor the dead—it protects the status quo.

I’m shaken by this whole thing, and if anything I’ve said came off as harsh, I’m sorry. But I won’t apologize for doing what journalists are supposed to do: shine a light when others would rather look away.
And just so we’re clear—these are my opinions. Not KXAN-TV’s. Mine alone.

Media should have asked the Gnome about who was checking on pet safety.

The great thing about Texas is that those same taxpayers will pay $6.6MM for a settlement to 4 whistleblowers against Ken Paxton who is dirty, corrupt, cheated on his wife, and still got re-elected to one of the highest government offices in the state. But yeah, emergency alert systems that could save the lives of young girls, that's a bit ridiculous to ask taxpayers to cover that cost.

This is the sort of bullshit that "now is not the time" should apply to, not the dialogue surrounding safety infrastructure and the politicians who defund it.
