Not sure it mattered in the end with as trash as the defense was.
December 5Dec 5 Cowboys actually have a very good chance to win out. The only team left with a pulse is the Chargers and you get them at home.
December 5Dec 5 I just went back and watched. The quick thing with no breaks. We should have played better. I’m drunker than a Frisco housewife
December 5Dec 5 Maybe we shouldn't blame some of these players. Maybe they were simply out partying too hard last night. Maybe, just like Vegas, they were at it til 7 in the morning and just became too sleepy for a night game. Can't blame them. Life's complicated for people making $10mil or $20mil a year. Wasn't Pickens the one with Lamb at that Vegas Hotel at 7AM? Just asking. It's the league's fault for scheduling a late game. Guess the search goes on for a coach who can handle these types. A Jimmy Johnson type, say. And a owner who can sniff out problem players. Too early to blame Clottenschotter. He's learning on the fly, and defense doesn't seem to be his bag, although I've always wondered why an offensive genius doesn't seem to understand how a good defense works.
December 5Dec 5 It’s over. Losing to a good Detroit team at their place isn’t the cardinal sin, though. Let us not forget that Jerry “built” one of the worst defenses in league history coming into the season and that’s the reason we’re not going to be in the playoffs.
December 5Dec 5 the team was never making the playoffs. they’re not that good. every fucking year they win some great games that make idiots puff out their chests. it’s all smoke and mirrors; this is a bad organization in charge of a spineless team with a clown at quarterback. it’s been this way. don’t worry, I won’t gloat. just know that I always have been and always will be right.
December 5Dec 5 This team would have gotten shredded in the playoffs anyways. Any team they faced would have had a good offense. They should have bottomed out after the Arizona debacle but nope, had to win 3 games before showing their true colors last night. I'm sure they'll win the rest of their games and still miss the playoffs. It's the Cowboys way.
December 5Dec 5 Pickens shitty effort last night was why Pittsburgh let him go, that and he is a basket case. The first INT if he just extends his hands to the ball the defender can't deflect it like he did. I wouldn't lose any sleep if he went elsewhere in the offseason. All the talent in the world, but a complete nutjob.

December 5Dec 5 and for the 30th straight year the Dallas Cowboys will not go to the Super Bowl. Congratulations Jerry. That takes real talent.

I mean the players are playing to win. They don't care about draft picks. I don't fault them for winning and they played damn good and won 2 games most gave them no shot to win. Always fun to beat the Eagles. Also not sure how many garbage wins Dak has throughout his career, I'm sure you are referring to wins that mean nothing to making the playoffs? Last year he was hurt early. 2021-2023 made the playoffs, none there. 2020 he was hurt early on. 2016 and 2018 made the playoffs, none there. That leaves 2017 and 2019. Both those years, Dallas melted down in the later part of the year and lost a lot of games. They didn't have a terrible record to start and won a bunch of pointless games that meant nothing. Quite the opposite actually.
December 5Dec 5 It's a shame they couldn't' have beaten the shitass Cardinals or they would still be alive. That was a horrible loss. I'm OK not making the playoffs, because it was highly unlikely anyway. But they now look like a borderline playoff team quality wise. Cowboys are currently sitting at 13 and 27 with their first round picks. They need to keep refining their game and competing, but they also should be developing young players as much as possible. Don't risk a worse injury with Ceedee if he's cleared. Start Flournoy next week and keep polishing him and even get Mingo more time, though his Cowboys future is almost certainly coming to an end. What a wasted pick that was. Activate Blue and have him return kicks to see if he can replace Turpin and his contract. The young defensive guys are already getting more time, so hopefully they can avoid injury and keep getting better. It has been fun for the last few weeks. I keep thinking if they had just squeaked into the playoffs, maybe won a first round game, it would be a classic NFL Films kind of year for a comeback story. Shame they couldn't pull it off, but it's OK. It's gonna be tough to fill remaining needs going into next year. I doubt if they kick efferpus to the curb and get a higher end DC. So it will probably go back to being the usual first round playoff choke kick in the balls, or a major injury or two that shits all over the season.

The end of the first half was another great example of this. I'm not always a "go for every 4th down" guy but sometimes you get in a game and it's obvious you need TDs and TOP and the risk is worth the return. Schotty is hardwired by his Dad and manages the game like it. Like he's still in the late 80's. Either he'll need to evolve this offseason, or we simply have another Jason Garrett on our hands. The back 7 is historically bad. The LB corp is historically bad. Williams is hoss, but he can only do so much. This defense is really like 6 players away from being good or good enough to be ship level. Their 3 top players are DT's. You'll have to convince Clark to bring down his cap number which probably means guaranteeing a later year on this contract. But beyond the 3 DT's, Overshown (who badly needs a better DC), and the rookie edge, the Cowboys don't have anything. Years of missing in the draft has come back to bite them. Maybe the rookie CB is something. Maybe Bland gets better with another offseason of health. Maybe we can keep Houston as a situational pass rusher, but that leaves the team needing 2 more LBs (at least), 2 CBs (at least), 2 more DEs (at least), and a couple of safeties. All of this is predicated on firing a terrible DC and getting a 4th DC in 4 years and changing schemes once again. Zimmer was a unbelievably stupid choice last year because of his age and ambitions. It's been shown that Jerrah without backing ass into a good QB to lead the franchise is lost at sea. What you posit here is for the Cowboys to pretty much be a bottom 10 team for a half dozen years. We've seen it before. The only reset which will matter is Jerrah dies and Stephen either surprises us and just does finances or he does shortly after and the family decides to sell. Otherwise, it's very difficult to want a hard reset because the Cowboys are so bad at so many things.... drafting included. I do think maybe letting Dak go so he can win elsewhere may be the biggest solid they could do for him. The good news on Pickens is he just brought down his contract value by like 3-5m a year this week if you do want to bring him back.

Not much left to root for except Packers opponents to help that other draft pick move up a little. Go Bears!
December 9Dec 9 Eagles loss was the best outcome. The Chargers will get several ass kickings in the next few weeks. Houston should get in. The Eagles will lose two of the next four - the Bills and one of the Commanders games. They suck Cowboys could win all four. Toughest games will be 5-8 Vikiings and maybe one against Wash. Praying for Defensive Awakening Eagles 10-7, Cowboys 10-6-1 Edited December 9Dec 9 by Irish Wrist Watch
December 9Dec 9 At least with this season we've kind of built in the expectation that we're going to somehow screw it up versus building momentum towards the end of the season only to screw it up later. Good things happening when hopes are moderated are much better than good things happening when hopes are elated, at least for the Cowboys. That way when it all goes to hell we aren't let down so bad and waiting on that sweet hit of playoff win hopes that can't come for at least another year.

I think in order for the Cowboys to overtake the Eagles for Division leader, we would need to win out and they would need to lose out? Lose their four remaining games?

December 9Dec 9 The Athletic's simulator has the Cowboys at 53% to make the playoffs if they win out. Single digits percentage if they go 3-1.

December 9Dec 9 This reminds me of their season a few years ago. Started off like 9 or 10-1. Almost lost out completely and Dallas won the division at the very end to get the 2 seed. And of course, we get run off the field at home against GB and have never been the same since.
