July 7Jul 7 Seems like it would be difficult to know how many RV campers & weekenders were in the area. They might know the number of reservations, but not the head count for each one.

And quite a few had you list names of everyone associated with the individual site. But I don’t have a huge amount of experience, and all of the parks we stayed at were either federally/state managed or on the higher end of private.

I will admit to not knowing enough about the specific camping areas(not the kids camps just general camping) there but it could be that anyone within 100-150 yards of the normal river shoreline on either side could have been swept away, considering how high and fast the water rose. It is just awful.

One of their friends was taking some front end loaders down to Kerrville to help w debris removal and said they heard from people down there “100’s” are unaccounted for. Any official updates on number of missing? I think it’s going to be worse than any of us could imagine. A former coworker is missing near Hunt. It sounds like a large family group was camping on the river. They’ve located 1 member of their party. She managed to hang on in a tree. It’s very possible most of his family got wiped out. Just awful.
July 8Jul 8 Popular Post Mo-Ranch is hosting the TXSAR crew. They have functioning places to sleep on site, which are in short supply. I’m glad they are able to help.
July 8Jul 8 “Could’ve been worse” if the flood happened 24 hours later after countless more would’ve arrived at the campgrounds and RV parks next to the river for the weekend, fireworks, drinking. No way to know how many planned to drive up on Friday morning. Seems like most of the fatalities are coming from these spots than the youth camp(s).

July 8Jul 8 This was your friend's baby girl? CHIEFActually, it was the grand niece of a different friend, a lady named Debbie who is a lifelong teacher/principle and a close family friend. But my stepbrother and first cousin have children in her classes. The young man Heartfield is another, but that family is closer to my cousin’s family.
July 8Jul 8 We didn't talk too much darkness, but he did tell me that it would not be surprising if some of the victims ended up in Canyon Lake. That was a sobering comment.

July 8Jul 8 I’ve been relatively absent from the thread today, for my own reasons. I can say that we were pulled back from where we were today (Centerpoint), because of the operational change. They’re bringing dogs in tomorrow, and they don’t want our scent to cause any confusion. This has been a firsthand shit show. But reading the shit talking on this thread makes me want to put my fucking fist through a wall.

In 2016, our neighbor tied his johnboat to a sliding chain, about 6 miles below the Granbury dam. It had just gotten dark, about 8:30 pm. We all went back to the houses, above flood stage. Before 6 am, he had a call from the Corps of Engineers to come get his boat off the rocks at the Whitney dam. Over 100 miles in, at the most, 8 hours. How it didn't get snagged? I don't know. Having lived all but six years of my fifty seven years on the Brazos river, I've seen it bone dry, and I've seen it 40 feet deep, a half mile wide, and runnin' 30 mph, in the middle. I always thought it was funny seeing all the dams in Sanderson. July 8Jul 8 Popular Post I’ve been avoiding posting since trying to find information about my many friends’ little girls. There are posts on social media that name several girls that haven’t been in the news but I know are part of this tragedy. It looks like the number is 36 Mystic campers and counselors. Not to mention the countless others camping, in river cabins etc. This is going to affect so many families and communities for generations. 💔💔💔 As far as positive news, there are a bunch of La Junta counselors that are absolute heroes. Stories will come out. Miraculous that there weren’t fatalities there.
