July 9Jul 9 Had a chance to check this film out last night. I wanted to let it linger before I spoke on it. I don’t think I enjoyed it most of the first act, I had all these preconceived notions on what I thought the film would be or maybe how it should be. I was trying to view it from the lens of past Superman films. When I let that stuff go and just observed, it was a cool experience. It’s truly unique. It’s not really comparable to any other comicbook film. You’re just dropped into this world going 100mph the entire time. I think it could have used an additional 10-15 minutes, there were powerful moments that almost felt superficial. The characters were also so good that you want to spend more time with them. It’s a James Gunn film, but definitely peeled back. It’s so diverse in tone, you could imagine any character existing in this world, you’ll see examples of that in the film. I could see some people hating this movie. It’s chaotic, ridiculous, and hilarious at times. I’ll get into some pros and cons once the movie actually drops. I think I want to see it again. If you’re a fan of DC, I think you’ll find many things in this film redeeming. I think this is the Batman Begins to a potential Dark Knight. Solid start. This a Superman you can build around, even if his solo film doesn’t hit for everyone.

Funny, I had this same complaint with Guardians of the Galaxy 3-it would have played better giving a few of the scenes just a beat or two more to breath.
July 9Jul 9 Reviews are spectacular. My personal concern is that I haven’t really been a huge fan of any of Gunn’s previous movies. But I’m seeing it Saturday and pumped. Superman the character is in a weird spot, because it was perfected the first time they tried back in 1978.
July 9Jul 9 Seeing it Friday with my kids. The trailer didn't really grab me, but I loved Guardians, and the kid in me is still a sucker for a Superman flick.
July 9Jul 9 1 hour ago, CastHorn said: It’s so diverse in tone, you could imagine any character existing in this world, you’ll see examples of that in the film. Well, we are getting Guy Gardner's Green Lantern right out of the 1980s in this film, so we've already got that example front and center in the trailers. Your comment almost makes me think of the Brave and the Bold series (before it was Batman-centric). I would love for Gunn to dip into other eras and pull some of those characters out and into this one for future films. Gunn seems to have the ability to pick a variety of characters to work with and get us away from the same old same old. Spoiler Kind of like how Marvel is dipping into the 1960s Fantastic Four and pulling them into the 2025 MCU.
July 11Jul 11 Just got home from the Alamo. This was great. If this is the direction the DC is going, it’s really the Guardians of the Galaxy universe and I’m all in. The cast was perfect. Mr Terrific stole show for me.My only complaint is they didn’t release those Brosnahan titties.
July 11Jul 11 Going on Saturday night with my friend who we've seen most of the other comic nerd movies together. I'm hopeful. I think Superman is the type of thing we need right now. Superman will always be a sentimental favorite since it was the first one of these I grew up on with Christopher Reeve. I hope Gunn can pull it off. His track record is pretty solid. 1 minute ago, CooterBrown said: Just got home from the Alamo. This was great. July 12Jul 12 Saw it last night. Really great. The casting of the new Superman was an excellent choice. My movie experience was horrible. I went to a Regal cinema for the first time since whenever, and it sucked for two reasons. First, instead of the 10-minutes or so of previews you get at Alamo, we had a 6:00 show time, and sat through over 30 minutes of previews AND commercials before the movie started. Second, we saw it in 4DX. I thought it might be cool, but it was waaaaaaay overdone. Our seats were tilting and shaking throughout 80% of the movie, usually in a way that wasn’t even synced to the action in the movie. Seats just shaking for fuck’s sake. Even my kids, who love a good amusement park ride, didn’t enjoy that. Fuck Regal.
July 12Jul 12 As a kid I never liked the Superman movies. I was talking to my mom this evening about this and she never realized I didn't enjoy them because I never said anything. I really, really enjoyed this one though. Krypto was awesome. Having a Superdog made the movie for me. I had zero expectations going in, but I left the movie smiling. It seems like the goal of the movie was to show someone doing good deeds for no other reason than because they want to and that is who they are. I loved that aspect and can't wait for the next Superman movie.

The 30 minutes of previews are standard for them. I always show up around 25 minutes into the previews. This is definitely a movie I would NOT want to see in 4DX. I really like that kind of film, but not this one because I figured it would be a ton of seat shaking. I just watched it in RPX and it was fine. I just got in from this one and I still feel really good about having seen it. Some good life lessons in the film for anyone paying attention to things like that.

July 12Jul 12 I'm a little iffy on the movie. Yes it was entertaining and I love they didn't do the "rise of Superman" story we already know(like Batman and Spiderman we don't need it). I was also comparing it to past films...I still think they'll never Top Reeves...was the perfect mix of goofy Clark and serious Kal-El....I like the new actor, think his Clark was good, but I'm not sure i'm into goofy superman...maybe it'll grow on me. Movie was a bit all over the place for me. Spoiler And making Jimmy Olson a pussy magnet and Pa Kent a bit of a crier were...choices. Not bad. Jimmy got some good laughs(just not used to his character being that, because he still looks like a fucking dweeb).
July 12Jul 12 Lmao, why the fuck wouldn't Pa Kent cry? All people can have feelings! Speaking of, I cried (in a good way) probably ten times during the movie. This Superman was everything I needed it to be for the moment we are in. Edited July 12Jul 12 by safe sex

This Superman was everything I needed it to be for the moment we are in. Yeah that makes no sense to me either. He’s a father that loves and misses his son. The thinking that men cannot be emotional like that is silly. I loved this Superman. It’s the first time I ever enjoyed a Superman movie. More emotion from the men in the movie is a welcome development. Also you’re right. This version of Superman, and the movie overall, really captured on screen the hellscape that we are seeing in the real world. Credit to Gunn for that and a great movie overall.
July 12Jul 12 Also, I accidentally booked an "XD" screening, which involved 3d glasses but not any seat shaking, thank goodness. I hadn't seen a 3d-ish movie in forever, and have historically hostile to the concept, but Superman was pretty revelatory. It genuinely brought me into the scenes in a seamless and impactful way, and the coloring didn't seem to be affected at all.

July 12Jul 12 6.5/10. It's light, goofy, and..... a bit cartoonish. I love GotG, it's one of the top 5 comic book adaptions ever, but this is much more like Suicide Squad in quality. If you liked SS a lot with it's tone, then you'll like this. Some of it really works - Mr Terrific is.... terrific. Olson, Guy Gardner, and Lex especially largely worked. Other characters were glossed over or never even really introduced. Some of the gags got old and some of the jokes fell flat but Gunn works to try and give his 3 leads personality. David's portrayal is probably my 3rd favorite out of the movies and frankly the costume totally sucked for me. But for others they may like the retro flavor. The music is good (always is with Gunn) and there is some fun to be had, but it's not a great superhero depiction and I have a feeling it may not age well either.....

It was something about the kryptonite and what it did to Superman that I didn’t like. I had nothing really against the movies, but that one thing bothered me for whatever reason. I really didn’t watch any superhero movies as a child. If I watched anything I wanted to see movies that were based in factual events and history. Guess that should’ve been a clue for me as to how life would go for me. I loved this movie though and how they portrayed the kryptonite. Just a wonderful movie that I want to go back and see in 3D.

The best feeling I have at the end of a movie is walking out smiling and feeling at peace. This one really struck a good chord with me personally. Those are the best kind of movies.
July 12Jul 12 Oh.... and I'll say this. Don't waste your time on the after-credit scenes. They suck. You can get them on twitter and save yourself 10 minutes.

July 13Jul 13 Watched the first act of Superman The Movie the other night and it’s still as charming, funny and entertaining today as it was back in 1978.

The comic book film out takes are usually funny. Nope. Sucked ass. Do not watch all dem credits unless you're enjoying to score, which I did. Also, fuck 30 full minutes of previews, all of which sucked moosecock. None of them made me want to come see their movie. Overall theater experience was good. XD sound. Reclining lounger seats. People did shut their yappers when the movie started. they clapped at the end, which I still feel is odd, but also harmless. Overall: I thought the music was awesome. I thought Mr Terrific was a badass. Lex reminded me of some posters on here #self-annointedsuperiorintellect. Clark was...OK, not super! Lois was hotter n' a $2 pistol, but still kinda meh. I liked the Jimmy Olsen and Lex's girlfriend bit. They overplayed the living fuck out of Krypto. LOL at the technology to send baby Kal-El to another planet, but the fucking holographic recording got jammed up. Decent popcorn muncher movie. I worked my ass off all day and went to 7:15 showing. Never got drowsy, so there's that.

July 13Jul 13 If they ever want to do a movie just on Mr. Terrific, I am in for that. To echo others, he was awesome. That part was scripted really well, and the acting was top notch.
July 13Jul 13 Just got back. I loved it. There were parts that were a little slow but on the whole it had great characters and the take on Superman is exactly what I wanted. His humanity really shown through and of course his father would be proud of the man he raised. Any father would. Mr Terrific stole the show. Metamorpho was great. The Justice Gang was a great addition. Fillion is great and will be a part of the Lanterns show which I have high hopes for. Anything's going to be great after that terrible GL movie. The two cameos were good. Supergirl should be a fun cosmic movie with Jason Momoa as Lobo. Party girl Kryptonian versus straight arrow Clark is a nice contrast and kinda fitting with the reveal of the parents true intentions of Kal El. I think they may have overused Krypto but they brought it around at the end. The conflict between the nations was a little hokey but the resolution was good. Going again tomorrow with the kids and I'm anxious to see it again. Corenswet was great as Clark/Kal. Lots of jugginess in this movie which was appreciated.
July 13Jul 13 Going today at 5 and watching it in imax 3d. After I watched the originals I’d get in my undies and jump off the couch, Hoping to be doing the same tonight when I get home.

July 14Jul 14 I thought it was pretty good. The three leads were good, especially Hoult when chewing the scenery. The 3 Justice Leaguers were good. It devolved into a bunch of cgi vomit in the 3rd act but that's all franchise blockbusters these days. The dog was fun as was the supergirl cameo at the end (I liked Milly Alcock in HOTD, f the haters). 17 hours ago, mdmost said: Lots of jugginess in this movie which was appreciated. That's the truth. I'm pretty sure she was Kat Grant, a gossip columnist for the paper and often written as a rival or competitor for Clark's affections for Lois. One of the characters I referenced given no development, not even anything to do other than be basically an extra. Beck Bennett's Steve Lombard, the guy freaking out in the ship is the same. No real reason to be in the film other than a little fan service to the hardcores but given nothing to do nor anything teasing an actual personality. It's like the film cut 15 minutes of banter at the Daily Planet. The movie wastes Perry White too.... Edited July 14Jul 14 by Patrick Bateman

July 14Jul 14 This movie was unapologetically corny and optimistic and for our timeline that's refreshing and novel. Not a masterpiece by any means but a solid start for the DCEU. 10x better than the exhausting Snyder crap Edited July 14Jul 14 by Michael Knight
July 14Jul 14 Thought it was good. Looking forward to the next one and hopefully they keep it going with Gunn.

Noah and the Whale's "5 Year's Time", Sophie Madeleine's "Bring Me Sunshine", and Teddybears feat. Iggy Pop's "Punkrocker." But they all hit huge thematically with the references to sunshine and Clark's self-ID as a Punkrocker. The one original song was "The Mighty Crabjoys" which also connected to Clark's wannabe punk rock self-image.

July 14Jul 14 Saw it last week. I was impressed with just how on the nose the comparisons were to today's culture given how long it took to write and cast, but some were just staying true to the comics and got lucky w/ life imitating art (Grillo as Rick Flag Sr / Hegseth). Spoiler The dog was stupid af and I despise situations where the protagonist is doomed w/ no way out and someone/thing shows up out of nowhere to save him. Just dumb. The whole rip in the universe was dumb as hell to begin with, and they doubled down w/ the "we can just turn it off whenever" angle. I did like how the rip was advancing quickly right up until the scene changed, and then it took a break for 10 minutes and waited for the scene to come back. very convenient! Overall it was decent. Not something I'll see again, but good popcorn flick.
