October 16Oct 16 in our 2023 run to the national championship, we had a server who, I believe, hit the knuckleball that was very difficult to pick up and return, resulting in a lot of aces....it was, for me, unreal to watch....we ended up going thru all the top seeds to win it all. Don't remember her name., but it would be great to get her back for some serving sessions....she was really good.

Emma went crazy with 4 against SMU 2 more against Tennessee and 5 against Stanford. Madi and Asjia had 2 each against Stanford. Then the real fun started - 11 against Wisconsin, including 6 by Madi, and 12 against Nebraska, with 5 from Asjia And then the meme was born

A knuckleball serve seems to have the best accuracy to receiving difficulty ratio of any serve and I wish we utilized it more Yeah. Watching good float serves from the general perspective of the receiver is crazy. The ball shifts around in the air in an unpredictable way. Edited October 16Oct 16 by Xminus6

We had 17 service errors against Bama, with 6 of them in the first set and then 11 over the next 3 sets. We dialed it back a little to a more manageable 3.6 per set (still not great). We had 12 in a 5 setter against Tennessee (2.4 per set) It's not like we forgot how to serve - we had 3 against Creighton (1 per set), 4 against Wisconsin (1.33 per set), 8 against Stanford (1.6 per set), 4 against Louisville (0.8 per set), 2 against ASU (.67 per set), 7 against TCU (2.33 per set), 6 against Baylor (2 per set). Texas averages 1.94 serving errors per set, and our last 2 matches inflated that quite a bit (12 and 17). Only 2 matches we have hit double digit serving errors - the last 2. Team service errors is not an NCAA stat, but just browsing some of the top 10: Nebraska - 2.01 (109 in 54 sets) Texas - 1.94 (97 in 50 sets) Louisville - 1.96 (114 in 58 sets) Pitt - 2.55 (156 in 61 sets) Kentucky - 2.5 (130 in 52 sets) Stanford - 3.32 (196 in 59 sets) Wisconsin - 2.88 (130 in 45 sets) ASU - 2.71 (148 in 55 sets) That makes sense, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see a similar serving effort against Ark., hopefully with a little better results and progress being made. As far as forgetting how to serve, I don't think that's an issue for this team. I was mainly responding to SL's point about the importance of having a very strong serve to beat the elite teams. Which I agree with, but there's a fine line of pushing the limits without causing too many service errors. Which can be a real momentum killer. That's the tricky part. We'll see how far this team can push it. Edited October 17Oct 17 by sunset87
October 17Oct 17 Author Also if anyone wants to see something hilarious: https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/46605009/ncaa-womens-college-volleyball-bracketology-top-teams-predictions-2025 Charlie Creme routinely fucks up his WBB bracketology (his literal main job at ESPN), so he attempted to do a Volleyball one. But he didn't do a bracket, just seeded teams along the 1-16 lines. Calls Nebraska the "clear" #1 seed, despite Texas being #1 in RPI, RPI Futures and KPI. He even mentions both RPI and KPI being out and used for his bracketology! Mentions their 10 top-50 RPI wins, as if Texas doesn't have 10 of their own! I think he just took the top 4 of the RPI and made them the top 4 seeds, but put Nebraska #1 and Texas #2. Everything below that is garbage and the committee doesn't seed seed all 64 teams like that. He has Pitt and Louisville #3/#4, with Kentucky #5, despite the H2H win over Louisville.
October 18Oct 18 Author Well Saltzman was wrong. We beat Wisconsin on the road. And have 2 more ranked wins at neutral sites (Creighton and Louisville)

October 19Oct 19 After that abomination of a football game last night, I'm even more eager than usual to see our volleyballers stomp a mudhole. The fact they get a chance to do it against OU is even better.

October 19Oct 19 After Babcock's freshman season I was thinking she needed to enter the portal and get to Austin. Unstoppable when as dialed in as she was today. Oh, well.

October 19Oct 19 Author Florida ran out of gas. That offense is not very variable. It’s pretty left side heavy and basically no back row attack because Byrd can’t pass back there
October 19Oct 19 Ladies had to grind that one out, UF seemed to flip a switch 2nd set and kept UK off balance and discombobulated for most of the match.
