I really want setter Alexis Stucky and MB Jaela Auguste on the team next season. And maybe another stud libero/DS.

Texas needs to get another Libero like Zoe. She was under rated and maybe the most important player on the NC team. I don't know who it is, but it's a big need, especially with Emma being gone. And yes, a real difference maker at MB.

I don't know if Jerritt will go after setter with 2 contributing now and another coming in.

Uh, the other thing being when Binney enters the match Spears sits on the bench. That's even bigger to me than replacing Swindle, and I love both Swindle and Kahahawai.  I think there's something

  • That's going to be a new McCombs graduate diving all over the floor in a few hours.

  • If Vandy finishes off Cal (leads 2-0), the challenge will end in an 8-8 tie Texas, Bama, MSST and OU all had 5 set wins today

If Texas goes after a setter, even a on year rental, we’d have 4 on the roster unless you’re pushing Swindle out the door. And boy would I beat the front of the line outside Gregory with pitchfork and torch, because Elliot keeps floating between “Ella is 100% our girl” and “time to bring in competition for her and fuck up team chemistry”

I also don’t see a Stuckey coming in to compete with Ella and maybe not win the starting job in her final year.  Plenty of programs have a need for a setter without competition, like Penn State

MB, yes. 100% look for an upgrade.

As for L/DS, Gary will move into the libero spot and we have a highly rated DS who redshirted and another highly rated one coming in.

I think we need to focus on improving our blocking at the middle position and the back row defense will get better once we have a credible blocking threat at the net.

Also said the other day - if Gary can’t fix her serve in the offseason, bring in a badass DS with a legit serve and run the 2 libero substitution. Gary receives serves and plays defense, the other DS serves for her and plays defense for a rotation or two

This is cool, siap

There's a lot of noise about Izzy Starck coming to Texas, too, but nothing I'd say is reliable. Her Mom was an All American at Texas back in the early 90s under Mick Haley. Erica Hibben Starck. I feel like that's where a lot of the rumors are being generated from.

I was not a fan of bringing in Carlson, and I'm not a fan of bringing in Stucky or Starck. I am, however, a huge fan of Stucky. Elliott's going to do what he's going to do, though. He brought in SKT after we made it to the championship match, and that did a number on Gabriel (mind you, I was personally elated we brought in SKT - watching Kentucky abuse Gabriel on the front row rotations still gives me PTSD). He brought in Carlson after winning the national championship. If he feels like someone is going to make the team better, I bet he pulls the trigger. And he ain't calling me to check what my opinion is before he does so.

This team desperately needs better serving and better production from the middle blockers. I hope it can be addressed through the portal. I have concerns the middle blocking is partly from the loss of Sullivan, but that's me being panicky.

I'm going to miss Halter terribly. I wish there was some way we could bottle her and never let her go. Like a caged bird or something. All for us, none for you.

 Mick Haley

Mick does the color for the Texas State VB broadcast, but I really only get to hear him a couple of times a year as I have season tickets so I'm usually watching in person.  He's as fantastic as you would expect from someone with his resume, but really stands out vs his Sun Belt competition, which leaves a LOT to be desired for the most part.  After our final home match last week, I noticed him sitting off to the side as our PBP guy interviewed the player of the game, so went down to chat him up.  Had to let him know how much he brings to our broadcasts and that he was appreciated.  Not only because of his overall resume, but because he's been part of our broadcast team for 10 years now(?  idk? more?) he knows our players so well that he is calling plays and players before the serve.  Very Romo-esque in that manner.  We are incredibly lucky to have him.

That's great stuff.

He's on a podcast called 6 rotations. He has awesome input.

I had no idea he was doing Texas State VB. I appreciate you sharing!

I appreciate what you bring to the board as well.  A year or two back you made a long post about service errors that really hit home.  Lowered my blood pressure a ton!  Now, I really only get upset about 1st serve errors (give us at least 1 before you put it in the net please) or one coming out of a timeout.  For the most part, I've learned to live with them so long as they don't get out of hand.  Friday night vs JMU, we had 10 SE and they had 10 A through 3 and I was about to come out of my skin...sets 4 & 5 we cut that to 1/1 and got the W.

NICE!  21-2

If you told me before the season that was our record, I would have been impressed.

I just hated how we blew like every winnable set against Aggy and UK. Could have been a better record

We also had 2 matches earlier in the year where we saved match points, so I guess it balanced out
