Uh, the other thing being when Binney enters the match Spears sits on the bench. That's even bigger to me than replacing Swindle, and I love both Swindle and Kahahawai.  I think there's something

  • That's going to be a new McCombs graduate diving all over the floor in a few hours.

  • If Vandy finishes off Cal (leads 2-0), the challenge will end in an 8-8 tie Texas, Bama, MSST and OU all had 5 set wins today

Texas hit .273 Thanks to the middles. Do not look at the pin hitters’ hitting % lol

Winning point was awesome... Glad to see hitter bang it hard off top of aggy blocker's hands to win point!!!

Aggy hiiters were much better at this tactic earlier in the match...

(Also ignore that Stafford may have netted with her chest before the ball was down, it would have been a legit challenge if Morrison decided to)

They was on a 11 match winning streak….

you know what other team has an 11 match winning streak?

Almost looked like it hit one of them in the head

I’ll give the opps props. They not bad. Just not good enough.

Good team for sure.  Cos-Okpala and Stowers were really impressive.

That one aggy girl is gonna have to go into the locker room and put her nose back in place.

Girl transfers from Baylor to aggy and puts a thing around her neck to reduce blood flow to the brain. Obviously just trying to fit in.

Interesting strategy to give Lednicky so many open nets so we could just dig her attack and not let her tool the block

The alternative sure wasn't working. Maybe that's also what needs to be tried against Babcock.

See y’all at 6 tomorrow for the finals - Texas and Kentucky are 1-1 so far as SEC competitors and a rematch of the 2020 finals (played in spring 2021)

Each team has a sweep of the other at their home court in SEC play

Kind of like surly.

Uh...no.

I don't know what a good comparison for Lednicky versus Babcock is. Quinn Ewers to Vince Young? That's not even an exaggeration.

I will say it seems obvious we sold out even attempting to block players in favor of quicker close outs and more hands at the point of the attack. We did it versus Ole Miss, too. There were a lot of open looks for different attack options on the A&M side. It wasn't just Lednicky. But we had an amazing night with the block, and we won, so in my mind it was well worth it. Watching our block this year as a Texas fan has been soul killing.

Kentucky's big weakness is their anemic production from the right side, so the strategy will be viable again, IMO. Sell out to stop the pins.

😂😂😂 Bizarro-Surly maybe!

He posted on HF and shaggy for years, so I think he is particularly sensitive to negative comments and how that can go.  There's a bunch of player parents/family in that group and mostly older fans, and I think he doesn't want them having to deal w/ that.  I'll say this - he does a LOT of good in making sure Gregory is full, and full of Texas fans, for every game.  But yeah, it's not a place to shit on JE's lineup choices or vent about Wenaas hitting into the block over and over.  That's what this thread is for! 😁

Gotta be terminal - that floor defense for Kentucky is really good

Whatever new blocking scheme we have used the last 2 days - do again

Dont fucking serve DeLeye and then continue to do so when she proves she’s up to the task

Also agree on Lednicky vs Babcock - Lednicky has been below .200 against most of the top 25 teams aggy has faced -. 309 overall, but .190 against SMU, .159 against TCU, .220 against UK, .154 and .175 against Texas

Babcock is a beast, period. .322 as a very high volume OH - over 1100 attempts

Stowers has 2 more years but this is aggy’s roster to actually make noise - that’s a lot of graduation after this year

Lednicky (OPP) - SR

Cos-Okpalla (MB) - SR

Hellmuth (OH) - SR

Perkins - (MB) SR

Underwood (L) - SR

Waak (S) - SR

As you note, after so many instances of weak blocking all season, these past two matches have been quite a revelation. Hopefully our revamped net play continues against Hudson, DeLeye and Kennedy, each of whom abused us in Austin. (I'd especially like to see Hudson stuffed repeatedly.) All just observations as a fan, certainly not as a coach.

So that was the strategy? I guess it makes sense because I was wondering why she had so many open swings.  I assume they do both, set up the block and then pull it at times to fool the high hands tool. I guess it worked overall, but Lendicky didn't hit many out, thought she put it to the floor pretty consistently when she had open looks as opposed to the last set where she got blocked a few times.

Personally I prefer a strong block.  We have the size to be effective.  Did we make more of an effort to shade the pins with the block?  Thought i heard something about that from one of the commentators.

From my perspective, they need to get the timing better, which they have done the last 2 matches.  I'm sure their alignment plays a big part in getting that done.  But, there are plenty of times when I see, especially the middles, winding up to jump and just getting off the ground as the ball is flying by from the opposing hitter.  Their late.  Which is to be expected to a certain degree against good teams that play fast. It would be nice to see them get off the ground quicker with their hands already up, instead of the swing block theatrics. jmo

You have to be very careful with your block on the D ball to the OPP, because a lot of them love to tool the block. I think we let her have free swings on those and focused on digging it instead of giving her those juicy hands to target

We weren’t going to let Lednicky beat us. Stowers and the middles were going to have to do the work instead

I think its because in that rotation they were commit blocking on the middle and concussion girl.    So it just left the right side wide open.

This isn't new. Texas has played 92 sets this year. Bunton has played in 55. Harvey has played in 50. Ames has played in 82. There are a lot times either Bunton or Harvey haven't played.

Lauenstein has literally only played in 11 sets all year. Lauenstein didn't play against Ole Miss, either.

I'm not advocating it or defending it. I'm not criticizing it, either. I'm just saying it's pretty normal.

I really wish Harvey had gotten to RS or shown up in the spring because she’s still behind on blocking and chemistry with Swindle. Bunton is a stronger blocker, even if she’s not as much as an offensive threat as Harvey. But she really got going offensively last night in the later sets
