July 16Jul 16 Ever notice all those Chinese sellers on Amazon with weird-ass names? Well the Amazon Brand Registry is encouraging them. You have to have a registered or applied-for US Trademark Registration to put yourself on the Brand Registry. Heretofore, I thought that was only an issue of removing counterfeit/infringing products from Amazon. But, listing in the Brand Registry also helps search positioning. This I did not know. So those little Chinese and other sellers are flooding the USPTO with trademark applications so they can get on the Brand Registry. https://www.nyu.edu/about/news-publications/news/2025/july/how-amazon-is-changing-the-us-trademark-system.html There was a rash of Chinese bogus filings during Covid that may or may not have related to this (it appears that it did as this article is lagging the phenomenon pretty significantly). It's easier to register a complete nonsense word than something that more resembles what we think of as a trademark. Fuckin Amazon.

July 16Jul 16 Where do I send my application to perform extremely basic grammar and spelling checks on all of these Amazon product listings? A little clean-up, and I could trick bored wives that they're buying actual quality merchandise and not blatantly knock-off crap. Gotta think I could make a killing. I'm just kidding. No one cares if it's absolute junk so long as it costs $3 less than the name brand.
July 17Jul 17 I'll be sure to give my ole lady the heads up on the practice by Amazon. I bet that fucking truck doesn't stop coming by the house at an lower frequency.
July 17Jul 17 I'm short Amazon because of this bullshit. I'm willing to pay more for brands that I trust rather than risking these weird ass Chinese knockoffs from companies that cannot be held accountable for anything.
July 17Jul 17 Author I find it interesting that these sort of fly-by-night Chinese entities can afford all this. And I am assuming they engage in whatever SEO Amazon does besides this. Then again, they might all just be fronts for a large organization.

Even the small players at this table make millions a year. 2.) Yes lots of them are splinter companies of larger entities.
