For clarification - it was the first part of the post, pretty obvious what is over the line.

Wait a sec, why is the first part of @HornOnTheBayou's ban-worthy? I would totally get it if he insulted Elvis's wife but he simply acknowledged that Elvis is most known on these forums for posting pics in IPIHB. Do you think that is untrue, and is acknowledging that worth a ban? I have no issue with Elvis doing that, his and his wife's business, and I didn't see anything in Horn's post that was disparaging about that either.

Racism and bigotry has no value, obviously. But if someone, anyone, acts a fool, their behavior skews my judgment about them and how much respect they have earned. Some behavior is stereotypical and quickly revealed. That’s just the nature of humanity.

Perhaps y’all should try that for a day and see how it feels.

Great.

Now, explain why Black History Month, or any of the others, are racist.

ALL lives matter!

I've always wondered, had BLM decided to cheesily name themselves BLAM, rather than leaving the "Also" implied (rather obviously so for everyone with an IQ above a potato), would the backlash have been as severe?

Deep thoughts.

Was there an actual point made anywhere in all this? A lot of “Wait you think what? Why?” followed by “You don’t know anything about me and I’m also totally not racist!”.

White history month is coming soon by executive order.

It'll be January.  The first month.

And January will have to become the longest month, obviously.

I bet he'll order a new calendar where January absorbs enough days from February so that February is left with 3/5ths as many days as January.

It seemed so much more important at the time.

Was that the question? I thought you were asking why changing the name Commanders back to Redskins would be a problem.

Well, the Indians' logo WAS something of a racist caricature.  So, I get it.

Bottom line, if you're going to name a sports franchise after an ethnic group or something of that sort (as opposed to something more geography-specific, like "Mountaineers," or even locale-related professions, like "Oilers")....it's just a good practice to let that ethnic group speak for themselves and whether they're good with it.  E.g., FSU and the Seminoles, named after a specific tribe, which actually has a tribal government that speaks for the tribe - where the Seminoles have specifically approved and work in partnership with the university.

I originally had this thought as well, given that American Indian, at least, was semi-acceptable.

But, when you think about how the term came about, dumbass honkies thinking they'd reached Ceylon or some shit and gave the darker people the same name as Indians (dot not feather), and it kind of falls apart.  Lucky they didn't get called "wogs."

Many in the native community are accepting "Indian" these days despite the stupidity of its origin so it might have been close enough to get by but they could never fully disassociate the name with the long time use of Chief Wahoo. Even though they stopped using him a few years before the name change it wasn't going to fly long term without a complete change in identity. The Chiefs are skating by because they haven't used an actual Indian mascot for a long time but I attended a game at Arrowhead about 10 years ago and it was still full of fake Indian tom tom beating and tomahawk chop stereotypical bullshit ceremonies and chants.

As far as dotards "they all want it back" i'm sure dipshit troll will find the interviews and articles of Indian people being "not offended" or loving it but the vast majority of them are "my great grandma was a Cherokee princess" type of Indian. There are some legit Natives who liked it for some reason but dotard doesn't speak for the Native community. Here's all you need, a position by an organization of Native leaders. This is the official position upon which the decision should be made. Unless they change their position, it should be respected.

Yeah, I've always hated the "if they aren't offended, why are we" argument. I'm quite certain there are plenty of Native Americans you could find who don't mind the mascots and plenty more who don't care enough to formulate a negative opinion. But it's like asking a black person about the lack of representation at the Oscars during Jim Crow. They've got bigger fucking fish to fry. Life in their communities and on the rez doesn't warrant itself to caring much one way or the other what our multi-billion dollar pro sports franchises are wearing on their jerseys these days.

Doesn't mean we can't do better--ever so slightly--as a country.

I think we should have a ginger history month.
First we’d have to enslave them for hundreds of years, then subjugate them to laws that take away their rights and dignity, then throw them in jail for petty shit that doesn’t get other people thrown in jail, then force them to eat and drink at different places. Once we do all that though then gingers can get one month out of the year only where we talk about their contributions to the history of this country.

Blah blah blah....this, umm, taking away gingers' dignity thing...can that be interpreted to require Bryce Dallas Howard to spend some quality time with Brisketexan?  Because that's definitely a dignity-reducing proposition, I am told.
