Wed/Thur/Fri to go somewhere else in the UK either day trip or just train out and back. Manchester, Liverpool, Bath, Cambridge? On Saturday the 29th Ill want to leave London on a train in the late afternoon to somewhere. Fly home on the 3rd of Dec. I can add an extra day if needed. Planes, trains, and automobiles are valid forms of transportation. I've been to London four times so I've seen all the tourist attractions. Places I've alerady been fairly recently. Edinburgh,Brussels, Bruges, The Hague, Amsterdam. I do love Amsterdam so I wouldnt mind ending up there and flying home. I have zero desire to go to Paris. I could go back to Ireland. Haven't been there in decades but I only have 2 to 3 extra nights. Ghent? Rotterdam? Antwerp? Should I spend a few days in Germany? Edited July 22Jul 22 by midtown

I probably read too much media about it being trash, dirty, expensive and rude french. Ill get there eventually just wanted to save everyone from instanly throwing out Paris
July 22Jul 22 Got it. Would def have mentioned the solo part bc it just sounded like Paris slander and I was about to call my girl @PenelopeWitherspoon in here to give you the what for. (I love Paris)

My friend just did a European tour with his band last month, hit a bunch of cities all over Europe but none in UK. He said Paris and Rome are every bit as shitty and dangerous as advertised. I’d never ever go to either.
July 22Jul 22 I know I’m not well-traveled, I’ve only ever been to the US and Mexico. But if I was you I think I’d definitely prioritize going to a city or country you have never been to before with your extra days, whatever place that may be. You might never get another chance to go. And afterwards for the rest of your life you can always say you’ve been to that place.

Wednesday is my #2 team and that would be a fun one to attend and I'd rather go to that one than the Tottenham/Fulham game.

Well it's easier said than done. One of our club coaches here in SA, who I'm good friende with is from Manchester and played all the way uo to league 1 or 2. His nephew plays for Millwall so he's going to help me get tickets. But I'm always going to see my club play when I'm London .

July 23Jul 23 I know you've been to London 4x already but have you been that time of year? It's a different London than say April or the summer. You'll have Christmas markets, concerts, pantomimes, shows... Hyde Park and Kew Gardens are magnificent with their lights and decor. Oxford Street's festive. It feels like a different city. If you have your heart set on day trips though you have Cambridge, Oxford, or Bath. They're better during the warm months than the winter though. Bath's one of my favorite cities in the world - You have to be slow paced. Just live. Ironically much like Paris. Cambridge, you could go punting but dress warmly. All three of those cities you could spend a full day walking around and sightseeing and make it back to London for a late dinner (keep in mind the sun sets around 4:30p if that matters to you). I'd skip Manchester. There's honestly not much to see or do there. Much rather go to York or the Lake District for a few days.

July 23Jul 23 Partial rec: you mentioned Cambridge. I haven't been, but I have been to Oxford, and it's awesome. You might want to dig into recs on which might match your preferences better.
July 23Jul 23 That said, I really enjoyed York, but I did it as a stop on the way to Edinburgh. I'm not sure it's great as a destination, but it's really interesting.

Oxford and a couple Cotswold villages, or Oxford and Bath, would be a nice 3 day trip. I wouldn't want to spend the short amount of time I had going to and from an airport 2x. If I had my heart set on going to a second country however I'd definitely depart out of LCY and choose a destination that has a smaller airport which of course further limits the options. Nice or Luxembourg, perhaps.

I would much prefer jumping on a train and relaxing for a few hours while I sip champagne, watch the countryside pass and read vs dealing with all that an airport has to offer. So maybe Ill just find my way into Belgium again and hit up Ghent and end up in with a one night stop in Rotterdam or Antwerp before cruising into Amsterdam. And yes I like all the great things about Amsterdam. Art, beer, weed etc and I could hang out in De Pijp all day. THe food scene is gettting way better. FYI there is a red light district in De Pijp. It's smaller and not touristy. Thats what a friend told me. I was going back on the 3rd due to custody but my daguther will be out of town at a showcase so I can push this an extra day or two easily and also try to find a match in either Belgium or Netherlands Edited July 23Jul 23 by midtown

Like, last Sunday, right? When I met up with Ricky. We had spaghetti bolognese, which was all right. And then I said to him, I said, "I need some soil." So, I'm like, "Where" - you can't see these shops in London. Manchester, there's loads of decent hardware shops. Here, you know, if you want a panini and a latte or whatever, you can't move for 'em. But for soil, I had to go virtually - how many miles away from me to carry out soil home and stuff? Also Manchester is the home to congress tarts. Just, I love 'em, It's me fav- I can't get 'em in London Edited July 23Jul 23 by SimonBolivar
July 23Jul 23 Madrid may be my favorite city in Europe. Totally worth the time. If only for the food. But the sites are killer too.
July 23Jul 23 Go to Newquay and spend a few days on the beach and nights in the pub. Easy drive from London.
July 23Jul 23 Do you golf? I bet there are some cool links courses you could get on and get a true british golf experience that time of year.

Worth checking.

In the UK, I might do 1) The Caledonian Sleeper to Edinburgh and spend a few days in Scotland 2) The Night Riveria Sleeper to Cornwall and check out that (really under-visited) part of the country 3) Oxford or Cambridge I'm going to push back on Paris a bit and the concept of saving it for a trip with future Mrs.Midtown. I'm going to tell you--chicks dig it when you know your way around a European city, especially Paris.

August 9Aug 9 Cambridge and Oxford are both great, although late November is a grim time for Northern Europe. Going there or the Cotswalds then kind of takes the magic out of it; you’re meant to be outdoors or punting on the Cam. What about Normandy? Plenty of direct trains and it can be kind of moody and fitting to stamp around old castles and Cathedrals in the late fall. Mull over some Calvados and beef cheeks.
