July 24Jul 24 So my older kid (18) fucked up last night. Long story short gets pulled over and allegedly has a small bag of dope with him, plus a couple other charges related to the stop. Gets to spend the night cooling off in jail. This is where I need some help and I guess maybe an attorney referral if anyone practices or has connections in the metroplex. Any other advice appreciated. This is all his first offense. Edited July 24Jul 24 by HiggyBaby
July 24Jul 24 I assume "dope" means devils lettuce? As a youthful first offender, I think chances are excellent he gets deferred adjudication that may be expunged if he successfully completes it. I don't think it's going to take Dick DeGuerin or Rusty Hardin to obtain such a resolution. Clint Broden is a guy I know, but he's become something of a superstar and this might be below his radar and he's probably pretty expensive. Buck Johnson I think is a pretty good more workaday lawyer.
July 24Jul 24 Carl Ceder. Longhorn, good guy. He's a friend of mine so I can let him know you're calling if you DM me your info and actually plan to reach out to him. practices in all the metroplex counties https://www.carlcederlaw.com/index.php/ Edited July 24Jul 24 by orange dream

I don’t have the issue anymore but my oldest son (I actually have 3 sons, 2 still live with me) was vaping a lot during Covid and it was bad enough I tried that scare tactic / at least warn him not to have it on him while in a car. Seems really odd to have that high of a penalty. But it’s there. Edited July 25Jul 25 by troph

August 30Aug 30 Any surly lawyers in TX (I live in Austin but can do virtual) want to help update will? DM me if so, rather keep it in dysfunctional Surly family. Thanks

September 3Sep 3 Yeah the one thing that the kids do not realize is that THC vape pen, is the criminal equivalent of carrying around 5 pounds of weed. Or at least it used to be, from my recollection. Which is fucking crazy! But my policy has always been, if you are going to break the law... it's good to know the penalties. OP sorry about your son's situation. Probably good advice on a local attorney with contacts.
