Mr.Crisara had me change to a 5c my sophomore year..Best change ever. But I still go back to my old 10 1/2CW every now and then but not as much as I used to. He also lent me one of his C trumpets one semester for my jury, but he told me if he ever saw me playing it with anything but that 5C he would take it right back. LOL.

July 27Jul 27 Author I just used whatever came with my horns (Conn Director student trumpet, Conn 28D pro French horn). The mouthpieces were the least of my problems.
July 27Jul 27 3C. Haven't touched a 7C since maybe 10th grade. Well maybe during marching season, but definitely not since college. Had a Schilke something something at one point, but it was too shallow as well.
July 27Jul 27 Yeah I grew up listening to Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass in the 60's. That music is fundamental to my soul. Mangione sort of became the next herb Alpert for his time. And Mangione being on A&M records meant Herb was gonna get a slice from his talent as well. Mangione got so much airplay Feels So Good almost started to annoy me, but it's a great song. And the man can certainly play! RIP. I did get to see Herb Alpert a couple years ago at the Paramont Theater during covid (where I got it actually). Really enjoyable show, as its multimedia and historical in it's presentation. The guy is practically a billionaire and what gives him the most joy is still performing and playing that horn (beautifully still.) Whenever I am Surf fishing in the early hours of the morning, you will always hear my playing Pandora's mix of Herb Alpert. I am gonna really be upset when he passes. As that will truly be closing a door on my childhood...

Lots of classics. “In The Hall of the Mountain King” was a frequent listen. He always included a heavy dose of Herb Alpert. My brother and me stared at one particular album cover more than all of the other album covers combined.

That cover and a James Bond shower scene in Thunderball when my Dad when took me to the Downtown Houston Loews theater in Houston as a 6-7 year old? probably permanently perved me out. 😉 But I love hearing all those old songs from my parents adult child rearing era. Amazing how many song on the charts in the 1960's were related to movie soundtracks. I highly also recommend the A&M records documentary, "Mr. A & Mr. M: The Story of A&M Records." It shows the type of musical environment that allowed a great like Mangione to flourish and collaborate. It's on a couple subscription services but worth a watch. Here's a Herb Alpert Freebie documentary I found that started to suck me in. I still love a full band with some trumpet and sax... always will... Edited July 28Jul 28 by horn4life
July 30Jul 30 Ol' Chuck could hold his own with the best. My only distraction is the resemblance to Chumley on Pawn Stars at times 😆

July 31Jul 31 When my son was just a little slug, i.e., 2-3 years old, he enjoyed listening to certain songs in his old man's music collection. One of said songs was Whipped Cream. His dad enjoyed looking at the CD cover while the music played.

July 31Jul 31 Late to this thread but RIP Chuck. As has been mentioned earlier my dad wore his album out when I was a kid in the early 70s. Always dug him and that cool ass hat Never gets talked about but the guitar solo in feels so right just rips. You can see it here at 2:04. Dude goes to town on the big old fat clean guitar
