I don't know shit about you. What I know is the last page you've been shitting on the idea designed running plays for Arch. You've been saying how opposing DCs are going to try and break him. Then you close with: We'll see how, that works out. Which is ambiguous at best. You guys have taken this discussion to a mind-numbing tedium. Good grief.
August 18Aug 18 Are we really arguing about Manning running the ball more? It seems like y'all are talking past each other and being particularly obstinate about missing the point the other is trying to make. Arch will use his legs more than Quinn. Both by design and capitalizing on opportunities that the defense presents. He's faster than Ewers and more durable. But Sark doesn't like running his QBs and is obviously cognizant of how badly it would suck for Arch to get injured. "Reasonably conservative" is probably the right phrase. How Arch runs is almost as important as when he runs, which was already noted above. Dude needs to get on the ground and avoid big hits once he's gained some yards. No more diving head first into defenders. I feel like both of y'all are saying some version of this but refusing to agree with one another.
August 18Aug 18 Sayin is listed at 6’1 on Ohio States Official Roster. I’m going to assume that’s a football height measurement. Let’s say he’s 5’11 3/4ths. Our Front 7 is huge. I’d be really impressed if he’s able to come out and complete anything downfield consistently. Not only are your sight lines going to be limited, but Texas is going to wreck his pockets. I’m assuming the gameplan will be to dump off the ball to his elite receivers and hope they can YAC it up.

If there's a way to get on the bad side of that family, it's to start hinting that the grandkid isn't playing, or isn't playing well, due to an injury like a concussion. The NFL has started discounting players with concussion histories when it comes to the draft and in free agency. So, yeah, you are not looking at any kind of data point there, man. On the bad side of the family? Try federal law. HIPAA's no joke.
August 18Aug 18 Napier has the same fondness for overly physical practices that Venables has. It's not an if, but a when that they are going to have injury issues again.

August 18Aug 18 It's the off-schedule runs with Arch that we'll need the most. That will open everything up on offense.

If I take out RBs with less than 100 carries, he still finished 14th in ypc. And 101st overall, 1 spot above Haynes King, a QB. Wisner may have the heart of a champion, but as a talent, he's average. And compared to all the great RB's Texas has had, he's below average. With a difference maker at RB last year, Texas certainly wins it all.
August 18Aug 18 Texas rosters under Charlie Strong were average in most places. Nothing about Texas's roster last year was average except punter and placekicker when the kick mattered. But I'm done with the conversation, we're at the point in a program upswing when fans completely forget what average looks like.

I dont think he ever even got a carry at Texas. Some reason I remember him being a headcase. I think had an ugly injury at Houston. Porter was a career back-up. Danny Young was the only one to be a lead back. I am not sure that is the bar for average. Edited August 18Aug 18 by Codaxx

CJ has under 1000 yards rushing he doesn't go to the NFL draft. $100 bet If CJ goes to the draft with under 1000 yard he is not selected in the first 2 rounds. Another $100 bet I’m a poor surlyite. I’m not arguing anything just saying him missing time in season will not keep him from being drafted if he tests well. I’m on the fence he will not run a 4.2 also. I’m not even saying he should go or not. Hopefully he stays and is healthy

August 18Aug 18 Author I can't decide if this idiotic "what's an average Texas running back?" discussion is worse, the same or better than the "should or shouldn't Arch run the ball" pedantry of the last 3 pages. I feel like both might actually be more boring than the tried and true "name the most terrible memories of Texas football" contests.

Damn, I just looked at that backfield. Daniel Young (81 carries), Chris Warren (71), Porter (83), Toniel Carter (53). Might be the worst backfield Texas has ever fielded.
August 18Aug 18 Feel like this has been discussed, but the Rice transfer getting beat out by a guard at LT and now being in a battle for the RT job is such a bad sign for OSU. On top of that, they lose two all world RBs, without replacing them with anyone near that caliber and a physical, experienced QB who was a run threat. Oh and they also lose Chip Kelly, who probably overcomes lesser OL talent through run blocking schemes better than anyone in football. I would not want to open against this Texas front 7 with all of the foregoing.

Bijan and Rojo ran for ~6 ypc with a combination of Hudson Card, Casey Thompson, and Frosh Ewers. There were a lot of issues with our run game last year and we don’t have to pin all of it on Quinn. There have been effective run offenses that didn’t have a great QB to stretch the field for a literal century. Related note - if the run game is better this season, let’s not just heap all the glory on Arch and discredit all the RBs and OLs that will have had a more direct impact on that.

August 18Aug 18 Probably NIL isn't as good on the baseball side. For most people that would be decisive. not so much because football makes more money over the long term, but he would have to take a substantial immediate hit.I don’t pay attention to baseball but don’t they get paid more than football in the pros?
