Wingo is not an every down, consistent receiver at this point. He's an athletic freak with a ton of upside that will give you the chance at some big plays.  He's not a chain moving, reliable route running guy. His hands/pass catching ability are average imo.  Is Jaggy? Possibly, too early to tell.

i really miss second half of the season Golden.  He was nails and bailed the offense out numerous times.

I would argue his hands are below average. His catching ability is on par with Gibson's carrying abilities and not fumble.

2 game sample size stats and averages are eye rolls, for any team really, especially the ones that have played FCS opponents or have had 1 of their 2 games against a top 5 team in the country.

And I'm not talking about chronic stuff like red zone and whatnot. If 50% of a player's snaps for the season are against Ohio State, I'm willing to let a little more data be collected before talking about what his average yards per game or yards per catch are, both for the good and the bad.

We had 1 sack through 2 games last year, then had 45 over our next 14 games.

It never ceases to amaze me or make me chuckle when Sark acknowledges our redzone issues, yet does nothing to address them. I gotta say, it's quite impressive. For someone who people keep calling a "genius" and "wizard" on offense, we sure seem to suck inside the 20. Does genius and wizard have 20 yard to the endzone kryptonite?

Do you watch the games? The issues go beyond Sark, execution by the players is a big part of it too. If you’re holding your breath trying to wait for Sark to find a way to scheme around the players weaknesses in the redzone good luck. Everyone needs to be better, this isn’t just a matter of Sark having play callers block in the redzone.

Correct, but that input will continue to be ignored.

I’ll share the full write up once it is posted, but Dunlap on OB said he just finished his OL grades for SJSU and a few things stuck out:

-Goosby graded out above 80 on his scale which is considered very good

-Baker actually graded out at 79.13 which is considered very solid

-Stroh was 73 which is horrible and Umeozulu was at 79. He said if Flood sees stuff the same way he does, there is no reason Neto shouldn’t be given the starting nod against UTEP.

I hope the injury report is mostly hot air and about getting young guys reps.

Endries, Taaffe, Moore..  OTF mentioned even more questionable after week 2.

I don't think they will play anyone dinged up these next two games, especially proven players.

Are you a satya sock? All you do on here is bitch and berate the team. I don't understand why you even follow Texas if they are such a constant, massive disappointment to you.

I think it was tongue in cheek, but that was mentioned today by Neuheisel. Stockton has only attempted 4 passes that were longer than 10 yards. If Tennessee can't beat this Georgia team, they never will.

Same with us lol

I do watch the games, but after 4 seasons of this it isn't just on the players, unless they're being taught to suck at the goal line. It's maddening that he can't scheme up a simple screen or an out route, or hell, even a drag route. We have don't have to rely on Wingo, we can use Moore, and McCutcheon has shown he can catch, as has Lockett. We don't have to run Arch up the middle.

To add to this, split Baxter out or Wisner. Keep one in the back field, and allow one in the back. Confuse the fuck out them!

I'm coaching my kid's little league soccer team. I just had to do a training session from the Positive Coaching Alliance. Had a lot of stuff about giving encouragement and criticism in a 5:1 ratio, giving "compliment sandwiches," filling players' "energy tanks," and giving players a "mistake ritual" so they can move on to the next play. Which led me to think a lot about the value of shame and how we, as modern Americans, have lost shame as a valuable tool. And I'm worried that Flood has been leaning on the Positive Coaching Alliance playbook a bit too much.

Our OL needs to be ashamed of how they played last week, and the coaches need to be reinforcing that feeling of shame. We need some "Private Pyle sucking his thumb while his buddies do up-downs" kind of coaching. Just some psychologically traumatizing coaching techniques.

This isn't U6 soccer. These men are getting paid too much money to play like children.

Yeah it seems some of this team needs some Augie

College is weird. They include sack yards. Probably the easiest thing to do is just use the RB carries. Just think about the delta between Quinn and Arch on rushing yards.

This is a great point. Quinn took a fuck ton of sacks last season. If you take out his rushing atts and yards Texas in those games was:

Georgia - 17 for 64 or 21 for 63 if you include Arch

Georgia - 22 for 58

ASU - 23 for 54

tOSU - 24 for 76

And while none of those are good those are the worst examples.

Regardless of what Arch turns into he isn't going to have a lot of games with -20 or worse rushing yards.

Just a funny stat but Quinn Ewers finished his Texas career with -59 yards

Texas is 7-26 on 3rd downs. This is a bit intentionally misleading. He throws in the 4 yards to make it look worse. There is not a lot of 3rd and medium (only 3 attempts between 4 and 7 yards)

1-3 yards: 10 attempts, 6 conversions

4-7 yards: 3 attempts, 0 conversions

8+ yards: 13 attempts, 1 conversion

Average distance on 3rd down attempts of 4 or more yards is 10.56 yards. I am shocked it is a bad number. There is no doubt 3rd down can and should be better. The bigger issue to me is that 50% of the 3rd downs are 8 yards or longer. That speaks more to issues on 1st and 2nd down.

Has there been any conversation about WR development since hiring Chris Jackson? I've said a couple of times that our route running looks lazy. I haven't seen much development from our non-transfer receivers.

It’s a young group this year. We’ve had 4 receivers drafted the last 2 years. Give the dude a little slack

Those receivers were all transfers. That's part of my point. The receivers we recruit aren't being developed. I would also argue the development curve at receiver is much less steep than a position like OL. It shouldn't take 2-3 years to see results

Well 3/4.

Worthy and Whittington were not transfers. Wingo and Moore made plays last year, Livingstone is making plays this year. WTF do you want exactly? It’s been 2 games

Wingo has dropped one almost TD on a crosser and Arch has thrown 2 at his feet.  Is he not developing?  Good grief, Sark got Whitt and Worthy drafted.  I'd say our development is just fine.  We didn't exactly have Ohio State's receiver room when Sark got here.  Cook went off the reservation but he seems to be putting it together at Syracuse.

His argument is that worthy, Mitchell, golden, and bond came into the campus already great route runners.

Get ready to get torched by the oline experts in this thread.

Jesus fucking Christ. Whittington and Worthy were largely developed by Marrion. Are you really this dense? I didn't think I needed to call out every little caveat here. Making plays now and again does not equate to consistent development. Moore largely made plays against inferior talent. Wingo last year was good for 1 play a game and then disappeared

The overeaction on this board is so comical.

AD Mitchell had his most productive season by far under Jackson.
Golden too.

People are developing, it’s a tough offense to learn with all the options and needing to read the defense to be effective.

Don’t double down on your stupidity because you got called out on it.

Worthy had three different WR coaches in his time on campus. Whittington had 4 I think. Giving credit to Marion for their development when he was half engaged for much of his time here is convenient logic at best.

So out of an en entire thread of everyone bitching about the exact same thing this is the post you choose.  Fuck off moron

Chris Jackson can't coach just like PK couldn't coach in 2021, Choate couldn't coach in 2022, Gideon couldn't coach in 2023 and Kenny Baker couldn't coach last offseason.

I'm pretty sure Gerry has mentioned Jackson turned down NFL jobs last offseason.

I have seen drops, but I don't think I've seen shitty WR play in general. Some of you are being a bit harsh.

We know the floor for this team, we saw it against Ohio State, and against SJSU. The worst games this teams plays still result in a likely playoff run, but a team that was better than year 2 sark by a country mile.

The ceiling is what everyone wants to see, it's underwhelming to come out the first 2 games and see flashes of what could be if consistent and what ends up being when the team commits a lot of mental mistakes.

That's my theme for this team right now - ridden with mental mistakes.

How much of that is lack of maturity? How much of that is lack of effort? How much of that is lack of experience? How much of that is lack of trust?

Those are the questions we should be asking. Sark has alluded to players making mental mistakes as "trying too hard" or "caring too much". That is maturity. I haven't seen a lack of effort play this season, but I have seen Jordan Washington do jack shit to tackle a guy when he saw the ball was wildly underthrown. That's lack of experience.

There's a lot to be very high on this team about still, but here we are nitpicking a team that has double digit new starts between both sides of the ball, has been playing tons of freshman and has yet to find its true identity.

UTEP should be a building game, or we will learn that these guys are slow to pick up on how to correct.

I don't know how 73 is horrible, when it was a lot lower than that, as well as others, against OSU.

“Trying too hard” and “caring or pressing too much” are usually hollow platitudes used to describe shitty play.  A holding penalty is usually the result of poor fundamentals or execution resulting in a player being out of position. Not because he simply cares too much.

Tripping and falling down while pulling on a counter at the goal line is just bad footwork and fundamentals. Players just need to practice and be better.

How long would it take to neg bomb Sgt Hulk?

I'll post his grading scale when he releases it. It is different than PFF.

Anything below 74.5 is considered horrible.

My biggest concern is there seems to be an across the board lack of attention to detail on offense.  It is hard to say what is causing it at each specific individual, but when it is happening across position groups it becomes a worrying trend.  QBs with inconsistent throwing motions, OL taking bad steps and not knowing how to handle basic stunts, WRs running banana routes and dropping the ball, RBs fumbling and missing the right gap, TEs not kicking out the right edge defender, etc.

I think it points to Sark not being able to juggle both the duties of offensive coordinator and head coach simultaneously. Perhaps there is just too much for him to do to ensure the quality is there across the side of the ball he takes the lead on.

I think this comes down to your disappointment in Wingo's first 2 games. I would say Golden showed marked improvement in his 1 year at Texas. Livingstone is pretty solid on the technical side. Wingo's route running can be hit or miss. Blocking has been sub par, though for some reason Sark seems to bitch about WR blocking the first few weeks of every season. Moore just gets an incomplete for the season. I think you are probably 3-4 games early even bringing the subject up.

I see it a bit different. I see it as these guys know what to do and have practiced the shit out of it, but they don't want to fuck up in game and the pressure and thinking about not fucking up actually is what makes them fuck up.

I've always had a theory about Quinn going from gunslinger to pocket passer under Sark and I see a lot of that with some of these other mistakes. Sark wants them to be themselves in HIS offense, but they are trying to be what he wants in his offense. Some players figure it out and others it takes them a while.

I think that's why transfers that come in and had great fundamentals and knew who they were did really well for sark and this staff. They come with identity already and just move to execution.

100% on this. When you dig into the games, it is not 1 person or group. They seem to be tag teaming the errors. I am sure a lot of it is new faces. 2nd half of SJS had what 2 starters from the starting playoff lineup (Wingo and Campbell, maybe I am missing someone)? Unfortunately, it is going to take some time for everything to gel.

So maybe make it more simple with what is needed to know for it? Sark being an OC only allows him full time to do explain and make sure everything is right, Sark having to split duties as being the head coach may not provide not enough dedication to the unit, ye

I can see that. As much pressure as Arch had on him this off season it’s easy to see the whole Offense feeling a little bit of that also. Seems like Wingo is pressing.

I think most have accepted that the next 3-4 weeks depending on your take of cupcake status regarding Florida that it will make or break how far this team goes this season.  If Florida is the Florida they rolled out against USF and they have a murder schedule coming up. We have 3 more tune ups before OU.  If there is gradual improvement each week as there should.  Win

if we continue with penalties, 3rd down. 3rd qtr. red zone issues it will get dicey

Very interested to see how our Oline performs against UTEP. They lost to Utah State and beat Tennessee Martin. This is not a team we should struggle with, sack and TFL stats notwithstanding.

First and foremost, the last couple of days, there has been some arguing on this message board that has gone too far.

Name-calling, baiting, overly aggressive tones, etc.

The bottom line is this:

Good people can disagree WITHOUT hurling insults.

That is the expectation here. Please remember that.

**

UTEP leads the country in sacks and is in the top ten in tackles for loss.

Arch Manning will get his fill of different fronts and pressures in this game.

That is a very good thing IMO.

The more he sees now, the better he’ll know how to react during conference play.

This week, Arch needs to take care of the ball, move his feet and move the team.

**

Last Saturday, we witnessed what I believe will be the start of an onslaught of defensive players added to the mix as the season wears on.

Lance Jackson, Ty’Anthony Smith, Xavier Filsaime, Zina Umeozulu, Colton Vasek, Warren Roberson.

I expect more of the same this week.

Perhaps we’ll see more from Justus Terry who caused a hold, Josiah Sharma who was very effective in limited reps, or Kade Phillips who batted down a pass near the end of the game.

Facts are, the back-ups on defense at Texas are very talented. The more reps they get now, the better for it Texas will be later in the year.

**

At wide receiver, look for more Kaliq Lockett and Daylon McCutcheon this week. A lot more.

Emmett Mosley is expected to remain sidelined and I believe the Horns are being extra cautious with DeAndre Moore.

We should also see more of the young tight ends in this contest. Not just Jordan Washington and Nick Townsend, but also Emaree Winston.

Winston was one of the rising stars of spring until a separated shoulder sidelined him early in fall camp.

**

We’ll be on the lookout again for potential appearances from freshmen Nick Brooks and Jonah Williams this week.

**

One thing to keep under your hat:

Offensive guard Nate Kibble was very impressive in his debut. I’m not saying he’s going to beat out the starters, but he showed both quickness and strength whereas others on the OL may lack one or the other.

The Texas coaching staff has been high on him ever since he arrived on campus. It’s clear why.
