Listened to the Sunday Sirius XM show this AM driving back to Dallas.  Not much horns talk obviously but they didn't give Arch or the horns much credit for the blowout given the opponent which is fair.  But then went on to say how Texas will be fortunate to win one of their next 2.  Talked about how Florida is really solid on D and will be tough for us to score in the Swamp.  Then talked about how much better OU and Mateer is offensively than Texas is and how OU should be favored.  I don't take exception to any of those points independently.  But they did not say a single word about the Texas defense.  It's kind of amazing how from the national perspective the only story is Arch and our offense (and we've pretty much been written off given the struggles) and everyone has somehow forgotten we have an elite defense.

Bobby and Gerry got a deal with XM?! Good for them.

YOU think that a cross-sport athlete at Texas doesn't have his coaches talking to each other? Really? Jonah probably starts next year for Schloss - no one needs him returning kicks.

I’m sure they talk. And if Schloss tried to tell Sark where he can’t play Jonah Williams, after Sark didn’t have Williams available at all in the spring due to letting him play baseball, I’m sure Sark would have a good laugh and hang up the phone.

I think I phrased the point poorly. I'm aware that Schloss isn't calling shots when it comes to Texas football.

Sark knows that the kid is dual-sport and probably treats him as a football player accordingly. I guarantee Schloss would say something if Jonah got thrown out there for punt duties - whether or not it's his decision at the end of the day.

Schloss has in mind football when handling Williams, and the hamstring issues were definitely cause for concern for baseball staff because of the possible impact on football.

Sark pays no mind about baseball when it comes to how to deploy Williams, and baseball isn't going to say a peep about it.

He’s a member of the football team and will play wherever he is needed. There are no “baseball restrictions” on him for football.

Okay. Whatever.

At a bare minimum Jonah has agency and is an adult and has his baseball coach in his ear. It would be very easy for him to quit one sport or the other.

The street goes both ways. He has done much more in a baseball uniform so far.

You are actively engaging in a nonsense conversation with an unserious, uninformed, bandwidth-draining clown. Reading what he wrote through your quotes reminded me of his existence and why he’s on ignore and usually forgotten. My goodness, what an idiotic premise.

Just a reminder that you started this lovely exchange by saying that Schloss wouldn’t allow Jonah Williams to be on punt returns.

He got hurt playing baseball,  maybe Sark should tell Schloss to DH him only.

There is no way Schloss lets Jonah return kicks lmfao.

Niblett looks good back there - I wouldn't fix what isn't broken.

Imagine thinking Schloss has a say so in a guy that is a football scholarship

I think Jonah would be ecstatic to play in any capacity at this point.

Niblett isn’t playing so much on offense that he needs a breather. And I believe they put McCutcheon back on returns when the game was in hand.

I saw nothing from OU yesterday that should put us in the category of being a huge underdog.   An underdog we might be, but it shouldn’t be by much Auburn sucks and even with this being a fact, OU still needed some assistance from the SEC Refs to get them the victory.   They hype Mateer is receiving is over the top.

And Florida?   Really.    Give me the Arch that played with some passion yesterday and we are punking them.

That game feels like a coin flip to me right now. I need to see our offense actually do it against a team with a pulse.

Niblett has looked pretty good returning punts once he realized you can catch the ball before it hits the ground.

So would Tristan Nickelson ...

Niblett is fast, but does not seem to be especially quick. Like he doesn't have the feet of a typical 5'10" 185 lb. speed guy. But point him in the right direction and get him going and he can fly.

He doesn’t look as fast to me as his track times indicate but it could be like you said he’s not very quick. I still don’t think he should be getting snaps at receiver, same for Butler. Seem like wasted snaps when you could have your young guys getting those #4 snaps and developing

Jonah wouldn't drop the ball is the main point of him fielding punts.

This is prefect. This is the narrative we want.

Some of y'all need to get your heads right.

We're going to fuck ou up.

In what world is OU's offense way ahead of ours? They've looked pretty bad in their games, and that's with their QB playing well and not having the yips.

Right now that game is a toss up. Depends on which Arch shows up, and which team can decently run it.

  • Popular Post

They're averaging under 4.00 ypc as a team with two of their games against air.

And their defense can kiss our defense's ass.

Texas by 14.  Fuck ou.

I wouldn’t expect either offense to run the ball well. OU has real issue on the OL. Their DBs did struggle vs Auburn in 1 on 1s (Auburn has 1 of the best WR rooms). They were getting beat deep. This looks like a rock fight, that explosives and turnovers will make the difference.

Completely agree.  We are an afterthought right now.  If we play shitty (or god forbid lose) to Florida we won't hear the end of it, but we also will get zero credit for a solid win.   I don't really see a scenario where OU isn't the trendy pick heading into that game and dominating most of the talk.  Our guys will hear from coaching staff all week OU has been prepping for them for 3 weeks straight (which is true).  I like that narrative heading into that game.   Of course, need to take care of Florida first.

We smoke a shitty Florida team then skillfuck OU and we are right back on the hype train

i disagree

this is the sec

this is the reason we came here - to play state flagships instead of directionals

we've been to gainesville once, a 26-0 win in 1940

this result matters FOR US regardless of whatever shitshow lagway and napier rolling out

this matters - and this performance matters - a metric fuckton

we get to spin the turntables now

it's a privilege of the evil empire

It seemed like they were leaving the DBs one on one with him pretty regular too. If they had a better qb, it would have been a blowout by auburn. They were getting open on double moves a bunch.

Monday: Bobby

OTF Premium Monday

I noticed some hand-wringing on the message board over the AP/Coaches Poll rankings following the Longhorns’ 55-0 win over Sam Houston State.

Don’t fret. Polls mean nothing until about mid-way through the season.

Get through OU, and then let’s talk.

That’s when true perceptions start being formed and you can assign some meaningfulness to them.

**

We talked all off-season about how talented we felt like this Texas roster is.

That was on full display Saturday night.

The Bearkats kept their first team units on the field the entire game, while Texas played its third group for much of the fourth quarter. Yet SHSU still couldn’t really move the ball.

**

Every scholarship true freshman played in the game with the exception of Rickey Stewart who we did not see on the sidelines.

**

Talking about the future…

I was very impressed with the trio of center Daniel Cruz, right guard Nate Kibble and right tackle Nick Brooks on the right side of the OL.

Texas ran successfully behind that group late in the game.

All three of those guys looked the part.

**

If you want to know what the weight of the world coming off of someone’s back looks like, that was Arch Manning on Saturday night.

All that raw emotion, all those expectations, he finally just went out there and let it rip.

Good for him. Good for the Longhorns.

Now it’s time to bear down and get ready for SEC play.

Hopefully, the offense returns both CJ Baxter and Tre Wisner at running back, Cole Hutson returns, and they add Emmett Mosley V to the party.

Kobe Black, Xavier Filsaime and Warren Roberson should also be back on defense.

In fact, the only season-ending injury remains Andre Cojoe and that occurred in fall camp.

At this point in the season, Texas is remarkably healthy. You really couldn’t ask for much more.

Is it just me or does Mason Shipley seem to hook every single ball that comes off of his foot?   Pretty nervous that he hasn't had a chance to hit a high stakes FG under pressure yet

You should be more concerned that homeboy line drives all his kicks.

Maybe my arm chair verbiage is off, but something about the kicks coming off his foot and the trajectory doesn't look right.

Even on some of his XPs.

No. You're concerned about the kick trajectory. I'm concerned that his kicks are all low altitude off his foot, which could get them blocked.

What does Brad Spence need to do to get more PT? Yeah mostly against scrubs but he's looked like the best pass rusher so far this year

Do y'all think we'd recruit Shipley if he had too many kicks blocked at TXST due to a low trajectory? How many were blocked last year?
