What about versus the week after a close win against a shitty opponent?

Update after 4 games:

-Kyle Flood still needs to be fired, right fucking now.

-"We played like shit the first 3 games and don't even fucking talk to me about defense. Why would I care about the Texas defense when the offense is chock full of fatasses and dullards who cannot improve?"

-The Texas defense is probably worse this season.

-The interior DL is probably worse this season.

-Guilbeau is probably going to cost Texas multiple games.

-Arch Manning is going to cost Texas multiple games.

-Connor Stroh is going to cost Texas multiple games.

-Florida will play their best game of the year against Texas.

-Vanderbilt is a fucking concern.

-Arkansas is going to be a problem.

-Forget the playoffs.

-The running game is incapable of improvement.

-Sarkisian has likely held nothing back for use in upcoming match-ups. We've seen this offense and it fucking sucks.

-Kwiatkowski has likely held nothing back for use in upcoming match-ups. We've seen this defense and it's just okay.

-Expect other teams to keep getting better.

-Do not expect Texas to get any better.

I believe forcing this offense to string together 1st downs and score in the redzone is the best game plan. OSU showed the world the blueprint. UTEP borrowed it and had success. OU has a better DL, than OSU. Venables actually has run the 3 high defense before. I am more worried Venables does that. Coming after the offense and you are opening yourself up to Arch's legs and deep shots. I have more faith in Arch's ability to hit the long ball or break off some runs than to be consistent (for now).  That said if they just whip the OL, it will obviously be very effective.

You pay closer attention to this stuff than I do, but I thought UTEP's game plan was completely different from OSU. It seemed like OSU played an honest box and kept the game plan pretty basic. In contrast, UTEP threw the kitchen sink at us with a lot of exotics and stunts. Either way, in both games we had guys running open - Arch just couldn't hit the throws. Part of what keeps me off the ledge about our OL play is the fact that they pass pro decently and, combined with his legs, Arch has enough time to do damage through the air.

Kanu looks super-athletic on film, too, for his size. Kinda makes you wonder why it didn't work out for him at tOSU. Their loss is our gain.

If Texas plays well vs. Florida and OU looks blah vs. Kent State, the storyline flips. I'm not saying it should, but that's the modern sports culture.

Late to the party here, but Sam Houston State would be favored against Kent State.

Kent State is in a close race with UMass to be the worst FBS team in the country.

OU will be prepping Texas for the next 3 weeks.

I can't speak for anyone else, but my aforementioned concern was simply with the fact that Vanderbilt looks to be legitimately good.  They're scoring a ton of points and they dick slapped South Carolina on the road.

I'm also on record as saying we're gonna beat ou by 14.  I think we're fine.  But that Vandy game looks a lot tougher than it did a month ago.

UTEP ran a lot of 3 high vs Texas. Nobody has really come after Texas yet. OU might be the first one. Florida likes to run a lot of 2 high.

I don't think there is too much offensively that OU could have hidden, considering the Michigan and Auburn defenses are good. The Mateer hero ball stuff has all been revealed.

Now, defensively, I'm sure Venables will have something up his sleeve. He is basically a defensive coordinator who does press conferences a couple of times a week at this point. They have outsourced all his other responsibilities.

That's the worst news possible.  He'll play against Texas with a club-hand and complete 28 of 31 for 500 yards and 7 TDs.

Quote

OU quarterback and Heisman hopeful John Mateer has suffered a thumb injury on his throwing hand and could miss three or more weeks, according to SoonerScoop.com sources.

Mateer injured his right thumb during the first quarter of the Auburn game on Saturday, but remained in the game. This may come as a surprise, as Mateer went 24 of 36 for 271 yards and one touchdown, helping the Sooners beat the Tigers with a fourth-quarter game-winning drive.

OU and its medical staff have been working to find the best course of treatment to ensure Mateer returns healthy and in a timely fashion. It’s currently unclear if the injury will require surgery.

Why do I doubt he misses the Texas game?

Now being reported he is having surgery. That’s one way to get through the Florida and OU games. Through attrition.

If we consolidate all of the bad play from players costing us multiple games into the same game, we might have a chance.

Isn't that what the UTEP game was?

I'll believe that story after OU's first snap on offense in the cotton bowl.

Fuck the college football world if they can't take a joke. I'll take the wins however they come. No one deserves more shit being shoveled in their face than OU. They just fucking overtly cheated in the game in which he got injured. Karma is a motherfucker.

It would be awesome for someone to find the exact moment he hurt his thumb and find out it was after that controversial TD.

Oh great, 3 full weeks of surly worrying about the OU backup

I have Hero as the biggest surprise. Guy has an 84.2 PFF grade. That is #1 in the SEC among DTs. He was considered depth when he transferred. He is playing himself into an NFL draft pick.

I would have Littleton and LeFau next. Perhaps, I had higher expectations for McDonald. He is exceeding them, but I thought he would good based on his play last year.

That's a good one,  I completely forgot about him. I halfway thought he was going to be another Savea and he's been our best DT through 4 games.

I think I expected Lefau to take the step since he showed very well wity nice instincts. He just needed added mass and strength. Littleton is up there with Kanu and for me, I expected McDonald to struggle moving to the full time starting coverage safety role. He's taken over for Mukuba and hasn't missed a step yet.

It is Surly but I do not think people here will be overly concerned about the return of Michael Hawkins to the Cotton Bowl.

Why? We know who it is, we beat his ass last year. It's Michael Hawkins Jr.

Please, this is surly.  There is no line our freakouts won't cross.

I still don’t understand the extreme negativity regarding Texas right now. In retrospect, they played too conservatively against OSU and some things didn’t go their way. Arch hasn’t looked great but is looking better. This team is building momentum like an F5 tornado in Norman. In a few weeks we will be destroying good teams.

OU bringing the heat to our OL and Arch is a huge concern for me.

Can’t wait to bring the heat to their oline also - their ol is worse than ours by a lot

I know the next four games are going to be difficult and that we may likely still get Lagaway, but I feel much better about this season if Arch can get four more games just to settle in and get comfortable before having to play well enough to win us a game.
