Matt's is nostalgia food... fight me.  And are we really using County Line as an example???  You must love Donn's.

I haven't heard that in 30 years and I just sang the entire thing to myself. Best ad jingle ever.

Real fresh. Real fast. All those other pizzas are a thing of the past.

That burns into an area of the subconscious that is impossible to destroy. There's probably dementia patients around the area randomly busting out with that jingle.

Well County Line and Salt Lick off 2222 were much much better in the 80s than what they became 40 years later. And I can't remember a lot of great brisket around the entire state back then. I think Iron Works might have been around back then and it was much better in its beginning. Stiles Switch opened in 2012 and Franklins was 2009. Kreuz Market started selling barbecue brisket in the 60s I believe and that wasn't a bad drive in the 80s and 90s.

Dude, you are in your early 30s. What do you know about Austin 40 years ago?

Trudy's, Z Tejas, Sandy's, Players, Maudie's, Kerbey Lane, Magnolia, Homeslice, Gumby's, Fran's, Threafdgill's, El Arroyo, Guero's...

we had everything we needed

Matt's is the Austin's equivalent of Joe T. Garcia's.

People tell visitors they MUST eat there,  then will admit it is average food at best.

I would also nominate Earl Abel's in San Antonio and the Varsity in Atlanta as places "HAD" to take me and then they ending up telling me after, "I know the food isn't great, but you just have to eat there".

No you fucking don't.

Threadgill's was fucking greatness. loved lunch at Dot's , and ate more than my share of greasy ass porkchops, hashbrowns and eggs at 3 in the morning at that truck way the fuck south near Kyle.

Matt's is great. I think people are just dumb and don't know how to order there.

You allow you to bring in food from other places?

All seriousness, I find it very bland and very average.

Matt’s was better when they would serve you those brown margaritas in essentially large bowls, with a limit of two. I think they were about 60% tequila. Those with the tacos al carbon were pretty great.

Then don't go. Easier for me to get a table when I feel like it.

I miss posts on topic

I legit thought I was in the wrong forum for a second.

Sorry to continue the off topic posts, but I've got a question.  I'm looking for the name of a place that was just north of campus.  This would have been early to mid 90's.  IIRC, it kind of looked like a house.  I remember there being more than one room.  I think they served southern food.

I remember this place. If you ordered the chicken fried steak, for something ridiculous like one extra dollar, they would give you a 2nd chicken fried steak.

Uptown Enchilada Bar. Are we still doing this?

Then you have to include Pancho's as well. We always played the game where we would continue to raise the flag until someone quit or yelled excuse me I just farted. The girls loved that game.

That could be it.  At least the outside looks like it.  I'm guessing they've remodeled since the 90's, so the inside doesn't look familiar.  I can't imagine there are too many restaurants, in that area, that look like houses from the outside.  Thanks.

Not in the right area for your answer, but you reminded me of a fantastic southern food place that was in north Austin - Dot's...

4592222.com - why don't you jot it down.

I loved a steak from the Hofbrau swimming in a pool of butter.

That’s what I was thinking he was bringing up. That place was good. All cash, god knows how much $ she made.

Also no love for anyone for Jaimes Spanish Village? Flaming Dr. Peppers!

Red River Cafe?

Recognizing that what seemed like good eating to a poor college student doesn’t seem special to a person of middle age who has an income, Players Fajita Nachos were the late night bomb.

Oh it’s not even Florida I’m worried about. They won’t score enough.

But yeah, team like OU(even with the backup) and Miss st and Arkansas can put up points
