Who tf said that??

One of the guys in his head that also told him Baxter played last year and had a game with 20 carries and only one yard after contact.

He started churching it up.

My biased view of the RB room:

Wisner - great after contact, great at cutbacks, pretty slow, reliable, good attitude. Solid contributor but not Ricky Williams, obviously.

Baxter - showed a few tiny flashes as a freshman but basically a non factor until there’s evidence he can not only get on the field, but also produce. I’m skeptical.

Gibson - the fumbling is slightly less of an issue than it was and there were a few tiny flashes at times, but also a lot of bury his head into the line and gain 1. I think he’s got something but he needs a fresh start I guess.

Simon - flashed several times but obviously still learning protections, etc.  I’d like to see him get more carries.

Clark - just meh. Average at everything.

Ricky Stewart - whispers of an issue there?

Thin RB room, yet again.

There needs to be some winter portal cleaning in that room. Carrying 6 scholarship RBs is pointless when half of them are JAGs.

They also need to operate with the assumption that CJ Baxter doesn't exist and anything he adds in the future is a bonus. I'm not saying run him off because he seems to be a good leader and value add off the field, but we are in year 3 now, and the dude has been the opposite of durable.

I assume Niblett will get a few carries here and there as well.

Probably need to go ahead and let the rest of this season play out before operating under that assumption.

It’s not an assumption if it’s the truth.

Unrelated to that point

Niblett is also a RB and appears to be playing the same role Keilan Robinson played at Texas. He had 7 carries on the season before Brooks got injured against TCU, fnished the season with 12 carries and 3 receptions on the season.

Niblett already has 4 carries and 3 receptions on the year. The OTF guys also think that Terry might move there temporarily.

I'll be stunned if Stewart is still with the program next year.

If you look up and find the stat that’s literally what happened the year before so….   If you watch his highlights past 3-4 carries you see a 215-220 lb rb being solo tackled by 170 Lb defensive backs.  But yes, let’s act like that’s magical not a problem without any proof.  It’s all expectations at this point that he’s improved that.

Why do I have to look up the stat? You are the one that says it exists. It doesn’t, or you would have already provided it.

As already mentioned, he has one game in his career where he has 20 carries. You helpfully provided a highlight video that shows runs in that game where he has more than a yard after contact. Just take the L

I think some people's minds at some point got mixed up, and associated Brooks taking back the starting job with "Baxter sucked in 2023".

Injuries suck.  Baxter's was horrible, and it remains to be seen if/how he returns from it.  He was by no means easy to get on the ground prior to the injury.  In fact, he had all the makings of a legacy back at Texas.  He runs hard, he falls forward, he doesn't make mental errors (inclusive of pass pro), he catches the ball, and when he blocks folks they stay blocked.

Wouldn’t at all surprise me to see him get significantly better.

Should get a portal RB

A Justice Haynes ain't walking through that door, my man.

I will forever and ever hold a grudge about that. They didn't even give him a look, all while knowing we had two fucking RB's injured, one of whom is made of glass, another who had an Achilles tear who we didn't even know would be ready or not as a RS-FR, and he's been meh, another with all thumbs trying to carry a football, and the next two are true frosh.

Choice, you fucking dumbass! Thanks for leaving the cupboards bare!

How about an Ahmad Hardy?

2 minutes ago, William Bludworth said:

Out of sick curiosity, why is that?

Because he's not with the program now.

Has anyone asked Bobby or the OTF crew why we don't use the fattest, largest, meanest player on the DL to become our short yardage back?  That would at least soak up some carries....

Maybe after the Alabama Missouri game Sarkisian starts using Stroh back there.

Uh, yes on Hardy. That dude can ball. But is Sark/Scott even intelligent enough to have someone put out feelers?

He didn't suck but he also didn't really look special.  We were of course spoiled by the late Herman to early Sark run of RoJo, Bijan, and J Brooks but Baxter never looked like he'd continue along those lines to me.  With Brooks you could see that he was good when he was getting mop up run his first two years.

Okay, so you want to leave because you're not getting touches, but you want to leave right now because you're afraid you'll start getting touches.  That's an interesting way of looking at things, I guess.  Or maybe there's more to it and he just wants to be somewhere else, or not here, for whatever other reasons.

Yea I don’t get that at all either.   I think at a program like Texas , you go through the season to try to get more reps and then make that call when the transfer portal opens in January.  On the flip side, if his heart and head are not engaged, then it’s best to part ways.

Yeah, I'm sure those guys would be great at ball security. 🙄

Only if it's a true difference maker like Hardy, but not a Gibson level of talent. That would just be another scholarship waste just like Johnson at DT. And Baxter needs to take another RS and get healed. 2 games on, 2 games off provides no value to the team. OTOH, now with 2 gone, 2 injuries like last year it's going to be going from a loaded RB room to paper thin. Keep Baxter out until he's a necessity.

The RB would be tackled before Stroh got to the LOS. Maybe Kanu could become a Hero by playing the Roy Miller role and actually resolving the the short yardage issues.

If Stroh is going to run the ball he won't get 2 ft before he's tackled.

Weren’t both Gibson and Baxter highest rated running backs in their class?

Baxter yes.

Gibson was 3, IIRC

Baxter was. Gibson was the 9th RB in the class and 117th overall, so not nearly the same tier as Baxter. Obviously still a bust/miss by the staff, which we've had way too many over the last few years at RB. I remember being fairly underwhelmed by Gibson being our RB1 in that class. His highlights were mostly running through truck-sized holes thanks to IMG's loaded roster. He reminded me of some of the Katy RBs we've seen over the years.

Rickey Stewart’s high school film made him look like he’d be a solid contributor at SHSU or SFA. That was a head scratching take for sure.

To be sure, ask him if his Face ID is now inexplicably a spread butthole. Have him test it. It's the only way to be sure.

Just any butthole? Doesn't seem secure. So many people have buttholes.

Texas had a great run so maybe a couple of 4*'s that are really 3 at best is probably expected. Certainly Roschon, Brooks and Wisner exceeded expectations and there should've been a special 6* for Bijan. But I have to say none of Baxter, Gibson, Clark looked like difference makers when I watched their video.

Stewart 2027 Heisman confirmed.

Every year, take at least one RB out of the portal.  Best who will sign, regardless of how many RBs are on your roster.  They are just so prone to injury and flake out and there are so many of them.
