I don't believe Endries is much of a blocker.  He was tied for 218th among qualifying tight ends last season in PFF's run blocking grades.  I expect his receiving will more than make up for it.

The 2nd TE has never really been a factor in Sark's offense.

2021- Brewer 22 and Wiley 9

2022- Sanders 54 and Helm 5

2023- Sanders 45 and Helm 14

2024- Helm 60 and Davis 9

Shame Washington had a shoulder injury. Hard for any of us to know what kind of blocker he is right now. I would not be surprised if the Shannon/Washington split leans Shannon early and Washington later in the year. Getting 1 quality locker at TE would be meaningful for the Texas offense.

No. It is just really about the DL. Made famous from Spagnola and the Giants, when he would put 4 DEs on the defensive line. Think Babers uses it for 3 DEs and a DT. Basically just a pass rushing personnel  package.

the fact that we have enough DE/Edge rushers to put 3-4 in at one time in obvious passing situations and not have to rely on DTs to rush the QB is ....

He also tied for 1st in most Pass Interference penalties in the NFL last year.

I couldn’t believe he was projected (and then taken) in the 1st round. He was picked on regularly and just looked like he sucked. But, hey, he started for Saban in the secondary. I guess anything could happen from here, but he still looks like he sucks.

I legitimately thought this was a scene from Sling Blade at first glance.

The chiefs started to run this during the Super Bowl run on 3rd downs. Got excited every time I saw it. Would really negate a mobile qb as most of the time they were quick enough to contain where as 2 dt usually can’t catch a qb. One side would usually stunt and wrap and the other rush normal. Seemed to always lead the qb to rush the throw or get sacked. Seeing 4 or 5 guys all at the line like Collin Simmons, Burke, hill, Spence, terry, Moore would be pretty intimidating. It also has to be confusing as a line if the guys are constantly moving-Chris jones will just walk the line until the snap. I’m all for it!

Sounds like the flex double Eagle that Tomey ran at Arizona. Same idea on the line: One side goes for broke, the other stays solid.

I'll be so thrilled if this kid's back to 100%.  What a boost it could be, to get an elite RB back.

And he sounds like a great kid (esp. the last comment in the clip.)

Juan Davis was certainly on the field in crucial moments not blocking well, not catching, really not doing much far far more than I wanted him to be.

It didn't show up on the stat sheet but he was there.  Far too often.

Yep.  He was the worst player on our offense that got regular snaps.

My season re watch, I noticed he was getting his little slow 2 yard catches with zero yac early on,  he was a little quiet in the middle of the season, then when shit got real he was out there A LOT.  Jagging his ass off.

On Arch’s TD run against A&M, he had the opportunity to block about 4 different defenders and somehow didn’t touch a single one.

Hey, man, the defense doesn't prepare for those phantom blocks.

A few practices notes from Dunlap on OB

Spoiler

- In speaking to a couple of sources around the Texas program, I asked one if he had seen anything from the offense this week that makes him think that the group is coming together and leveling up to the reported level of the defense: he texted back that it's been hard to tell because there really haven't been as many live periods this week to judge on, but said that there would be soon at the scrimmage.

- Thursday's practice was shorts and shoulder pads, so a little tougher to gauge things on, but there are a few notes to pass on: Players on offense that were singled out by one source were Deandre Moore and Parker Livingstone, who reportedly caught some nice balls and did a good job shaking DBs to uncover. There was also a mention that TE Nick Townsend has been coming along well, and a mention of freshman RB James Simon who reportedly showed some nice hands snagging a flare route out of the backfield and getting upfield for a nice gain.

- As for the offensive line, they apparently did some OL vs. DL drills today and even though it was shorts and shoulder pads, the OL was able to get some "encouraging movement" in the run portion versus the Texas DL. Also, in pass pro drills, Cole Hutson, DJ Campbell, and Brandon Baker were singled out for having standout reps against Alex January, Maraad Watson and Colton Vasek.

- When asked who was working as second-team QB in team drills today, one person said that in one team session, the order was Arch Manning, Trey Owens, then KJ Lacey and Matthew Caldwell with the threes. Then in another team session, it was Caldwell with the twos and Owens and Lacey with the threes. That situation is apparently still getting ironed out.

- The interior of the Texas defensive line continues to be a group where lots of players are shuffled in and out. Today in team drills, Travis Shaw worked ahead of Cole Brevard during one session and then those two were flipped in another team session. Maraad Watson was reportedly with Brevard while Brevard was with the first group, and Alex January was in there with Shaw when Shaw was first group.

- Derek Williams reportedly is getting some work back in with the ones at safety. Whether that was in a base package or in some sort of three-safety package with Michael Taaffe and Jelani McDonald is unclear. Needless to say, if Williams is healthy, he's gonna be out there a good bit in some form or fashion, and he's trended well in this regard all camp long.

- People continue to be really high on LB Ty'Anthony Smith, he's talked about like a guy who's going to play more than most people might think. He just gets mentioned a whole lot. They apparently think he's a great situational fit with his ability to run with guys, make plays on the football in coverage and get sideline to sideline with better speed than Liona Lefau. I don't think he's a threat to take Lefau's job, but rather a complement with some of the differences he brings in his game that could be helpful versus certain situations and schemes.

- Freshman edge-rusher Smith Orogbo is reportedly a little banged up but one person said it was no big deal and he'd be back soon, I asked about fellow freshman safety Jonah Williams, and if he was also due back soon, and was told he's not quite as far along but "but he'll be fine."

When did Jonah get hurt?  Also, I hope he doesn’t end up being injury prone his whole career. Was already hurt this year in baseball too.

Ty’Anthony Smith is about to take that job. Sucks for Lefau, but great job by the staff in recruiting and closing on those two.

If Parker truly is Jordy Nelson, we’re winning the next two titles.

I don't have any hot takes, but here's my guess on our starting lineup:

Offense:

QB - Arch Manning

RB - Quintrevion Wisner

WR - DeAndre Moore

WR - Ryan Wingo

WR - Emmett Mosley V (as an aside, how much pressure is there to name a son Emmett Mosley VI? How much pressure is there to have a son?)

TE - Jack Endries

RT - Brandon Baker

RG - DJ Williams

C - Cole Hutson

LG - Neto Umeozulu

LT - Trevor Goosby

Defense:

DE - Ethan Burke

DT - Cole Brevard

DT - Myraad Watson

DE - Colin Simmons

LB - Anthony Hill

LB - Liona Lefau

CB - Jaylon Guilbeau

CB - Malik Muhammad

Nickel - Michael Taaffe

S - Derek Williams

S- Jelani McDonald

Special Teams:

P - Jack Bouwmeester

K: Mason Shipley

PR: DeAndre Moore

Touchback specialists - Wisner/Ryan Niblett

No inside skinny. Just making a guess based on the practice reports widely available. I'm guessing these will be the lineups for the first snap against Ohio State. I know things can change in all kinds of ways. For one thing, this might not be the personnel grouping taking the field. This is also not a prediction for who gets the most snaps.

Oh, it looks like they edited it out, but right as he was leaving his media availability, CJ Baxter turned to the media and said, "I see you @Red Five Thanks for having my back. And check out Surlyhorns.com . Best Longhorn forum out there." I'm guessing there was some NIL involved. Probably big bucks.

You misspelled “Calvin Johnson”.

If 247 is to be believed, PL runs a 4.3 at 6'4" ~200lbs.  Jordy Nelson was an AA his last year at KSU, averaging 10+ catches and nearly 130 yards per game.  If we can get a fraction of that from PL as a FR, lets go.  Glad hes on our team no doubt.

Julian Edelman is 5'10". Livingstone is 6'4". But yeah, they are both white
