July 28Jul 28 Fuck Shipley. $4.99 for a large cup of coffee. That was 3 months ago, and I am never going back.
July 28Jul 28 Not disabling my ad blocker for that stupid article, but did it say it was shutting down or just a change in ownership? That's definitely one of our go-to breakfast places, especially when we're heading out on the road.
July 28Jul 28 Popular Post I have a very, very special place in my heart for Shipley. It was one of the first places a departed uncle took me to when I first immigrated to Houston and tried for the first time a fresh-glazed donut. A donut of any kind! And to this day, a Shipley fresh-glazed is my all-time favorite. They remain a guilty pleasure and something I'll occasionally grab a dozen of when I visit family.

July 28Jul 28 Popular Post I have never understood the fascination with Shipley's. It's like the Li'l Sebastian of breakfast places.

July 28Jul 28 I remember a few years back Grant Brisbee tweeted that he was going to Houston for the first time and asked for places to eat. Quite a few people mentioned Shipley's and I was like, "We have a fucking Shipley's in San Marcos, and these clowns are suggesting it's where you should eat in Houston?"

I think it's more cause it started out in Houston? But I get the sentiment though.

A friend of mine (sort of, more of a friend of a friend) came to Austin several years ago for work and was staying at the JW Marriott on 2nd & Congress downtown. He lives in a rural town with few restaurant options so naturally he wanted to go somewhere for lunch. Dude was literally around the corner from Cooper's BBQ and his restaurant of choice that he wanted me to take him to was....Shake Shack. I legit haven't said a word to him since and that was like 7-8 years ago.

July 28Jul 28 I chose Shake Shack over Cooper's BBQ every time. I could also find many places better than Shake Shack.
July 28Jul 28 Sure but as a non-native/resident are you gonna choose a chain over a local spot that's at least supposed to be good? That seems crazy to me.

July 28Jul 28 The superior Shipley donut can be eaten off the shelf without getting sticky fingers. Duncan and Krispy Kreme are nasty by nature and there is no choice but to get icky fingers.
July 28Jul 28 There’s one on the way to my office. I’m not a huge donut eater but occasionally I swing thru on my way to work and grab a couple sausage jalapeño cheese klobasnik things. I’ve had worse.
July 28Jul 28 Their glazed donuts are the best glazed donuts, but their kolaches (suck it Czechs) leave a lot to be desired. I don't eat donuts much these days, so i prefer an Earl Campbell or Renfro's kolache from the local Cambodian run place.

Not in Japan if you're hankerin' for a hamburger, you can't! Half of Japan's "hamburgers" are the Japanese hamburg-steak recipe (ugh!), and the other half are so drowned in condiments you can't even taste any beef! (double-ugh!) Shake Shack is a hamburger-oasis in Japan, and they keep opening locations. It's very popular with the locals, as there's barely a place to sit in Shake Shack even in the less touristy neighborhoods/(wards) in Tokyo, like Ebisu.

July 29Jul 29 Some of you are either haters or have never had a truly fresh fresh picked up off the conveyor krispy kreme. There's nothing like it.

Mountain, Ocean, Sun.... my ass! And they stole the old Warner Brothers "W" logo and turned it upside down. I can't unsee it. Lulz.

Shipley’s straight out of the fryer (ask them and they will make it for you) is an entirely different experience. Far superior
