August 1Aug 1 Highly radioactive wasp nest found at Savannah River Site AIKEN, S.C. - A radioactive wasp nest was discovered earlier this month in South Carolina by workers at the Savannah River Site, according to a report from the U.S. Department of Energy. Employees who routinely check radiation levels at the Savannah River Site near Aiken found a wasp nest on July 3 on a post near tanks where liquid nuclear waste is stored, according to a report from the U.S. Department of Energy. The nest had a radiation level 10 times what is allowed by federal regulations, officials said. The workers sprayed the nest with insect killer, removed it and disposed of it as radioactive waste. No wasps were found, officials said. Oh great, they escaped. Now we got radioactive fucking wasps roaming the countryside to add to the list of shit gone sideways.
August 1Aug 1 They have already had radioactive alligators for decades. https://theaugustapress.com/radioactive-mercurial-alligators-once-roamed-srs/ https://srel.uga.edu/testing-toxic-cleanups-one-gator-at-a-time/
August 1Aug 1 I'm more frightened by radioactive wolves...but they have been around for 35 years or so.

August 1Aug 1 Always knew they had high levels of resistance, but this is wild: Insects can survive radiation doses that are lethal to humans by a large factor. For example, cockroaches can tolerate 900-1000 grays, while doses of 3-6 grays can be fatal to humans.

August 3Aug 3 In 1957 my Dad said, “Hold my beer”….. Csb/ I’ve stood right at the base of that fireball, but 52 years later (the first time)

The shockwave had flattened a metal building 10 miles from ground zero.

Definitely gives off a vibe of "arrows cost money, send in the Irish."

There were pigs staked out various distances & in different elevation exposures from Ground Zero. Some disappeared completely, some burned to a crip, others were half cooked and still alive sqealing in agony The area around Ground Zero had been divided up into pie sections, each allotted to a different government agency or scientific institution for all kinds of experimental situations. A wide variety of stuctures were builtaround it like a complete town….commercial , industrial, and residential buildings & homes that were completely furnished inside like the real things. All kinds of vehicles were parked around too, including military hardware. afterwards, Dad saw a half-melted engine block - all that was left of a Patton tank - a mile to the rear.
August 3Aug 3 Forgot to mention - while the troops were sitting around waiting to get into the trenches, one of them was reading a newspaper, then left it on the ground. After the explosion and they got out of the trenches, the newspaper was still in place. Apparently when the massive shockwave spread out, it just pressed downward on the newspaper like it was glued to the ground.

I remember in basic we were trained to lie on the ground with our helmeted heads facing the shockwave of bombs if we couldnt find cover. I was thinking why so it kills us quicker but the DS said the shockwave would roll over us. Hopefully.
