I happily support PBS with a small monthly donation.

I regularly watch many shows and have since I was old enough to watch TV.  My understanding is that PBS only gets about 15% of its funding from CPB.  The quality of PBS shows could easily generate enough revenue to make up the difference.

I didn't support the current president, I stay out of CR, and I'm not a fascist nut job.  I am okay, though, with PBS finding private ways of supporting its programming which it already does in large part.

Sadly… more and more people who identify as libertarian in reality and in practice just means they have a high tolerance of authoritarianism to me.

Can we just fast forward to the part where the only programming available is Fox News or a handful of Russian funded podcasters? I feel like we're wasting time.

Borderline Libertarian here.

You have to be a very obtuse dumbass to not notice the last 2 decades have proven libertarian bullshit doesn't work. This isn't the 1820s wild West frontier. We are a global society that relies on vast networks of systems and people to maintain our modern standard of living.

To still call yourself a libertarian in 2025 is peak retardation.

Yeah, let’s just shutter everything in America that isn’t a profit generator. That’ll work out fine, I’m sure

This utterly misses the fucking point.

They probably needed to strip the building for scrap metal to build more cages.

This.  I am not a bomb thrower or a troll.  I never engage in ad hominem attacks.  I support this site, the Burnt Ends, and the football tailgates.  I am on a first name basis with many of the leaders here.

I simply don't know why taxpayer dollars needed to be spent on this and i am pleased that they will no longer be.

535M annually.  About $1.50 per capita.

cf. the $16.5B bump DHS gets this year or $50 per capita.

I think any outrage is misplaced.

That’s the same shit every fucking MAGA tool spouts. Since that specific thing doesn’t personally matter to you, then good riddance. As long as you get yours, right?

because the idea that free markets bring the best solution or even a solution to every problem is fantastical silliness. the government has a role in promoting the public good.

You may not be a troll but you are a shortsighted pos. I am sure you will welcome the leapards when they come.

It’s weird that people want to sell public land, kneecap public education, and silence public broadcasting. Those are some of America’s great successes. Hobbling them will not be a harbinger of good times, that much you can be sure.

None of those things benefit them, until they do, and then it’ll be someone else’s fault they don’t exist anymore

  • Popular Post

Well, that’s the thing though. Those do benefit them. They’re just too dumb to recognize it.

you don't see a need why the govt might need to subsidized programming for large rural areas where private companies won't because it's not profitable?

did you eat paint chips as a kid?

It is amazing what you can do with a constant barrage of messaging for 20 years. It is almost too easy. Folks that grew up watching this cpb programming, visited the parks, and were taught by public education can turn against the very thing that shaped them. Everything was great back then! Now we have a con man telling them let's make everything great again! Back when you were a kid!

Proceeds to get rid of everything from your childhood, waving a shiny thing (immigrants, poors, genders, whatever other red meat) and they open wide while relaxing their throats. All that money "saved" gets sent to billionaires or directly to an orange pocket.

Cool cool.

OK. So there is an ad hominem attack.  Thanks for proving my point.

No. It was a question whose answer is in doubt.

It's also not just an ad hominem attack. He'd have a point if I only said he ate paint chips as a kid but decided to just skip over my question.

The fact he didn't address it confirms my paint chip suspicions.

It’s almost as if capitalism run amok in the media and the church has created an environment where millions of people look to an atheist rapist of children to learn what Jesus wants them to do. But at this point sure let’s do this and continue free marketing the schools, get real weird with it.

You’re a commonsenseatarian. It’s easy to see why segments of posters here lose their mind over such things.

aww, do my memes trigger your charmin soft feelings?

I deny paint chips and pedo.  Remind my why I should be paying paying for PBS for other than that sweet tote bag that i got with my pledge?

Public broadcasting was captured by one end of the political spectrum and other ideologies and people are shocked that others don’t want to fund that stuff with their tax dollars while we drive off a debt cliff.

Radio and tv are old and dying media. They take donations. Send em guys. You know you might as well be lighting it on fire but do you. You will all offset the government funding with ease.

That all said, balance the content and take their current funding and double it offset by with cuts to DoD. I’m good with that. You want to talk science and arts, all for it. But some of y’all burned your “in this house” science signs a long time ago and arts has some interesting expressions.
