A 10-2 Texas plays for the SEC title right? We would definitely be in at that point.

But probably not anything worth thinking about unless we beat Georgia. I don't know man. The football gods aren't that kind.

really depends on what happens around us

If Bama wins out they are in .

Decent chance at some set of ties with Bama , A&M, Texas, and Ole Miss at one loss that requires spreadsheets and other games to be played

Id be more than happy to have a bye at 10-2 championship weekend and get ready to host a home game

at 9-3 , pray for chaos above us

Some variation of this needs to play out for us to go to the SEC championship without getting spreadsheets involved

Texas Wins out
Bama murders OU to remove them from playoff contention and keep things simple
A&M loses to Mizzou/SCAR before we gut them like a fish
Ole Miss loses to Miss State or Florida

I think if Texas wins out and OU beats Bama then Texas is in, assuming no other upsets

Same.  If we are 10-2 and miss the title game, who cares.

I care more about keeping aggy out of it than making it with the 12-team playoff.  Beat aggy and dash their dreams of finally making it to the SECCG after 13 seasons.  Whether we make that game or not, it don't make a shit.

The big thing in tonight's CFP rankings will be how the committee uses SOS.

Of the teams projected in the top 12, Texas is only behind Bama and Georgia in SOS and is 1 spot ahead of OU

aggy at 15, Ohio State 33, Indiana 39

Of teams Texas is grouped near:

Texas 11
OU 12
ND 23
Ole Miss 24
Oregon 36
Texas Tech 58

Who cares about SECCG anymore?  Other than aggy, I mean.

Yeah, unless you are going to get a bye by winning it (which I don’t see us getting) it doesn’t seem worth it.

Texas could play itself to a bye by winning the SEC.

Or get a bye by not playing in SECCG.

Sec champ is getting a bye no doubt and some nice fuck you mouth breathers trophy hardware

If you care about a shiny SEC trophy, all we really need is Mizzou to beat aggies, then you don't have to root for okie over Bama.

10-2 Texas not playing SECCG would be hilarious. Then run the table and win it all. I believe that would be the first non conference championship team to win the national championship

2011 Alabama too.

I care nothing about the outcome of the SEC title game. TCOB against our final three opponents and then get ready for the tournament. Those things all are under our control.

Not necessarily. I’d rather be 10-2 and not play for a conference championship. Just get us in the playoff, host a home game, and survive and advance.

I don’t trust the committee to put a 3 loss non conference champion in the playoff unless shit hits the fan with other teams.

Yes let's compare playoff and non-playoff byes because that's the same thing, right?

Also you get multiple weeks off after the conference champ game regardless.

We would be in, stop

If we win out on regular season, we are a lock for the CCG.

If we lose the CCG, i would hope that doesn't fuck our chances for CFP.

If we win the SEC, that should be an automatic bid and probably even enough to get a first round bye.

Other things need to happen per that calculator people have been using.

It would be easily enough. We'd have wins over OU, Vandy, aggy, Georgia and either Bama or Ole Miss likely. Or two wins over aggy.

5 minutes ago, Hank_Hill said:

I haven't seen any calculator. I'm going by this:

https://www.secsports.com/fbtiebreaker

If Texas goes undefeated, that means:

Quote

Georgia has at least two conference losses (Texas and Alabama)

Texas A&M has at least one conference loss (Texas)

The worst case scenario would then be:

Quote

Alabama (zero conference losses)

Texas A&M (1 conference loss, Texas)

Ole Miss (1 conference loss, Georgia)

Texas (1 conference loss, Florida)

Georgia (2 conference losses, Alabama and Texas)

The SEC says:

Quote

In the event of a tie for a place in the Conference championship game, the following procedures will be used in the following order:

A. Head-to-head competition among the tied teams

B. Record versus all common Conference opponents among the tied teams

C. Record against highest (best) placed common Conference opponent in the Conference standings, and proceeding through the Conference standings among the tied teams

D. Cumulative Conference winning percentage of all Conference opponents among the tied teams

E. Capped relative total scoring margin (see Appendix A) per SportSource Analytics versus all Conference opponents among the tied teams

Alabama clearly would be #1 and in the CCG.

So now there's a three-way tie for #2 between Texas A&M, Ole Miss, and Texas.

Texas A&M vs. Ole Miss

A. Head-to-head competition among the tied teams (None)

B. Record versus all common Conference opponents among the tied teams (Tie, 5-0 vs. 5-0)

Spoiler

Arkansas

LSU

South Carolina

Florida

Mississippi State

C. Record against highest (best) placed common Conference opponent in the Conference standings, and proceeding through the Conference standings among the tied teams (Tie)

D. Cumulative Conference winning percentage of all Conference opponents among the tied teams (Could go either way)

Texas vs. Texas A&M

A. Head-to-head competition among the tied teams (Fuck you aggy, Texas wins the tiebreaker)

Texas vs. Ole Miss

A. Head-to-head competition among the tied teams (None)

B. Record versus all common Conference opponents among the tied teams (Tie, 5-1 vs. 5-1)

Spoiler

Kentucky (2-0)

Arkansas (2-0)

Georgia (1-1, Adv Texas)

Oklahoma (2-0)

Florida (1-1, Adv Ole Miss) worst case scenario projection is Ole Miss wins this

Mississippi State (2-0)

C. Record against highest (best) placed common Conference opponent in the Conference standings, and proceeding through the Conference standings among the tied teams (Texas via Georgia)

Spoiler

Georgia (1-1, Adv Texas)

Based on that, it would seem Texas would have the tiebreaker against both aggy and Ole Miss if all three teams wind up with just 1 conference loss.

This is what I thought as well, apparently some very new rule for this season and this season only is there that has some round robin language that is fucking stupid and basically makes it where ole miss gets the nod.

That’s not how the three way tiebreakers work.

The same tiebreaker has to be applied to all three first to narrow down to two. (Record against common opps - our loss to Florida would knock us out of the three way tie).

Ole Miss has the 3-way between Texas and atm.

 Bullshit.

The language "a loss to a team that fired its head coach" is stupid as fuck. What does that have to do with that game? Napier didn't get fired because he won the Texas game. Every head coach in the country is getting fired right now. Didn't they fire him then with an interim staff almost beat Georgia? It's a pretty stacked Florida team. They suck but they have played up to competition a couple times this season regardless of who the HC was.

I guess Bama's loss to FSU is fine because Norvell hasn't been fired yet. Otherwise people could say "Bama lost to a team that fired it's head coach!"

I get if you want to punish Texas for barely squeaking by teams like MSST and UK but that UF loss isn't some abysmal failure. Florida is 2-0 at home in the SEC.
