  • just like we all predicated five years ago, it’s steve sarkisian and james franklin leading the top two teams into the college football season.

Some of you just love being miserable. The fucking rankings mean nothing right now.

ND’s schedule is embarrassing.

There’s a lot of teams this year that really have joke of schedules that will get in.

now that there are leaguer conferences, it only takes one or two teams taking a step back to make a schedule a lot easier. Would be better for the CFP to really punish teams that do not schedule major P2 games as it seems like it is being judged better to blow out a cup cake than to lose to a good team. The big examples this year are Oregon, Tech, BYU, Ole Miss and Indiana.

Of course. As does UVA. It’s surprising to see people worry about rankings.

UVA was already behind us in the rankings (just ahead as a auto bid)

Yep, now them and Memphis will just be replaced by two other shitty teams. We should be bumped up a spot and not be edged out this week though I think?

I don't think we move a spot, unless the committee moves BYU directly under us.  I guess we might move up one, to 10.

You’re an idiot in multiple threads.

In AP and Coaches?

I don’t know, I am only paying attention to the one poll that actually matters.

Is the ACC for sure a 1 bid league now, if it wasn’t before?

Probably. Tech and Pitt play each other, unfortunately for the ACC. If they didn’t, both could get a couple wins against CFP top ten and make the case after the CCG.

Posted this on another thread, it’s not updated. It shows whether teams have more or fewer wins than they should expect have based on post-game win expectancy.

Kind of a proxy for “are you playing as well as your record.”  UVA and BYU went down— they had been playing dangerous ball.

I’m with ya but have seen a lot of grousing over AP and Coaches polls. I don’t pay too much attention to it as our season will come down to last 3 games. Any whining now is premature.

We will move ahead of BYU imo. Whether I’m right or not doesn’t matter. Beat UGA and we will definitely move up.

Byu will probably be ranked 15 after that mess . Their saving grace is Virginia and Luisville both lost. Probably right on the other side of wherever Miami ends up

Wish I had the old window cougar meme to post

We lose to UGA and our season is finished.  No 3 loss team is making the CFP this year.

Can’t believe we let a really bad Florida team put us in this position. Fucking hell.

If there isn’t a ranked g6 program do they still get a bid?

Yes. I believe it’s highest ranked G5 this includes teams outside of the top 25. Hence Memphis was not ranked (NR), and the 12 seed in the last CFP Rankings.

For fucks sake this is so fucking dumb. Name the 7 non conference winning title teams that will definitely get in above us if we go 9-3. Seriously- do the work and show it here. It’s a really dumb statement you just made

Also- BYU is not going to be ranked ahead of us in the CFP polls this week. Y’all need to stop being morons.

The big 12 is cfb d league. Whoever that conference shits into the playoffs will lose in the first round.

Tech looked demonstrably better than in a long time yesterday and showed a relatively competent level of play and a very high level of athleticism. I'm not saying they are scary, but they aren't some scrub ass team.

I don’t typically tend to notice names unless they a sociopaths, absolute and utter morons, or awesome, consistently, all  the time. Or, Sydney Carton who’s none of the above but I notice. Maybe he should be on my always ignore but that’s Helo level dumb for me to really notice.

That’s a bracket we could absolutely win it all. Tech, Indiana and aggy to get to the title game?  Yes please.

It is not that dumb, we are going to be the last at large in this week and the 9 teams in front of us are not going to move that much. If we lose to Georgia it is something like

B1G

OSU

Indiana (or Ohio State whoever loses the B1G)

2 of A&M, Alabama, Ole Miss (depending on who wins the SEC)

Big 12 Champ

Georgia (they miss the SEC game)

Oregon

ND

…..

So 3 loss Texas with wins over A&M, Vanderbilt, and Oklahoma would be battling to be the 5th SEC team in against the 4th Big 10 team, the 2nd big 12 team and the 2nd ACC team. I just don’t think it is as clear cut that for sure a 3 loss team is getting in, i do think it would be close.

It's just the top 5 conference champions. So Duke winning the ACC (they pretty much control their destiny) after godawful OOC losses to Tulane and UConn could stick the ACC in a very bad spot vis a vis JMU and the American winner.

There isn’t going to be a 4th Big 10 team unless Michigan wins out. In that scenario, they would jump 9-3 Texas (justifiably so).

BYU is the other team we have to worry about. If they win out the regular season (even if they lose to Tech again in the conference championship game), I think it’s a coin flip if the committee would favor a 9-3 Texas, although we’d have the better strength of record certainly.

BYU is not a playoff quality team. Not even close. I don't see Big12 having more than one team in, just like last year. And it should be whichever team wins the CCG. ACC is even worse, with no SMU-type team to fuck things up by being undefeated until losing to a Clemson-type team in the CCG.

I see only four teams outside B1G and SEC getting in: G5, ACC Champ, Big12 Champ, and Notre Dame.

given a fair game from the stripes I'd love a game in lubbock.

I think some of yall are underestimating the media pressure the committee will have to not make it just a B1G/SEC playoff.

they are not going to have a problem leaving out a 3 loss 5th SEC team in favor of a 2 loss team somewhere else if it is at all close.

i agree if all three losses are sec play, but with one of loses being ooc to the top team makes it easier to swallow

I was listening to sports talk radio earlier this week and heard Mack Rhoades talking about how the playoff committee does watch all the pertinent games and has good discussions about what they saw and which teams should be ranked where.

Rhoades said “you know” about fifty times in that interview.  He sounded like a freshman running back in his first opportunity to talk to the media.

I came away from that interview thinking “this guy is on the CFP committee, and he’s the athletic director at Baylor?”

It reminded me of a Bob Stoops interview that my son and I saw on ESPN when my son was maybe 10 years old?  After the 10th “you know” from Stoops, my son asked “is something wrong with him?  He doesn’t sound very smart.”

Yes there is, son.  Yes there is.

No 10 win team that loses the SEC championship game is ever going to miss the playoffs in any season and under any scenario

When BYU had to use a new fresh qb, it changed everything.  No ability to move the ball made it easy for Tech.  Too easy.

here is my guess for Tuesday's rankings:

1 Ohio State 9-0
2 Texas A&M 9-0
3 Indiana 10-0
4 Alabama 8-1
5 Georgia 8-1
6 Ole Miss 9-1
7 Texas Tech 9-1
8 Oregon 8-1
9 Notre Dame 7-2
10 Texas 7-2
11 Oklahoma 7-2
12 BYU 8-1
13 Utah 7-2
14 Vanderbilt 8-2
15 Georgia Tech 8-1
16 Miami 7-2
17 USC 7-2
18 Michigan 7-2
19 Virginia 8-2
20 Louisville 7-2
21 Pitt 7-2
22 Tennessee 6-3
23 SMU 7-3
24 Iowa 6-3
25 Missouri 6-3

22-25 are whatever, but i bet i'm pretty close on 1-21.
