Does OD Wyatt still hold the 4x100 national record, or was that broken recently (I think it was) . My coach when I was at Central always told us the story of that race.

It was broke two years ago. Crazy race. Duncanville beat the national record and finished second. Atascocita won because J.Watson who now plays at LSU ran a crazy anchor leg. All 8 of the kids from those two teams went super high level D1 in football or track.

In some out west news here in Cali  it won’t rain the entire year then in one weekend we will get an entire years worth of rain and that was last night.   2-8 Orange Lutheran beats St. John bosco who beat them 48-0 earlier this month fumbles and botched snaps all night

No.5 Port Arthur Memorial still undefeated headed to the next round, big surprise that Angleton and LaPorte who are also in the top 10 got bounced in the first round. This could finally be our chance in PA to make it to state since the merger, one game at a time though.

The 4 Garland ISD teams that made the playoffs lost all 4 games by a combined 164 points.  Pathetic. /Garland grad

EP Eastwood getting the most out of their opening game beat down by St. John Bosco. They’re 10-1 and beat Wolfforth Frenship last night. They have to play Byron Nelson next though

That team in 2012 was one of the fastest teams i seen at the highschool level. I would say that team made a huge statement

Yeah that was Kenny Harrison's best team, those boys could fly. Harrison is doing great at Summer Creek rn. We just ran into Cibolo Steele that year in the playoffs in the game for a state appearance.

sThe third leg  on that team is the one that really got them the record.  I would have to go back and watch it again to see what the difference was, but not only did Duncanville finish second, they got absolutely smoked while beating the previous national record.  It wasn’t close.

Them, North Crowley last year, Atlanta in 2004 are some of the fastest teams I can remember.

Also not Texas related but St John Bosco lost to a 2-8 team in playoffs

Curious how much of that was a hangover from Bosco blowing that big lead to Mater Dei two weeks ago.

Aldine Eisenhower may have had 100 fans in their stands last night.  Their band was about 40 kids, ours is 240.  It’s kind of sad to see these schools with so little support.

The only one of those Aldine's that I can remember ever really drawing many was Aldine back in the 90's when Bill Smith was there and they won that state title.

I saw them beat the shit out of Willowridge when Ridge had Mike Miller and Derrick Harris. Aldine physically wore their asses out.

DISTRICT 2-4A DI SHOULD’VE JUST GOT BYES IN THE FIRST ROUND.

Canyon, West Plains, Randall and Dumas thumped their opponents this weekend by a combined score of 283-38

We just talked about Fort Worth ISD and Eastern Hills wins it’s  first playoff game since 1999.

Yep.  Wylie East is in our district.  Lost by 42.

Not Garland ISD. That is the point.

When I was growing up, there was so much talent in Garland and Mesquite. Great times at Memorial Stadium in Mesquite watching North Mesquite, the zone I grew up in before my family moved us to Forney.

Demographics changed so much in that area of Mesquite. They moved down a classification and that area and Mesquite as a whole is majority Hispanic. They are pretty much what Bryan Adams High School is. Good at soccer, not so much football anymore.

Got it.  Took me a sec.

Son is in Wylie ISD. Moved from Garland. Only reason I messed with you. Peace.

Are the locations for 2nd round games pre-determined?  We go on the road to Cypress to play district 4th place finisher 6-5 Cy-Lakes this round. Seems odd to send a top 10 district champ packing, but so be it.

No.  It's up to the coaches.  Sometimes a coin flip is done if they cannot agree on a neutral site, often because of past seasons and if they lost.  Sometimes Coach A already played a game at the ideal location this season and Coach B is like, "Fuck all that, we'll both be uncomfortable..." Also if it's a repeat matchup, sometimes it was agreed upon in year 1 Team A travels and in year 2, Team A gets the more desired location.

There's been some fun stories of playoff site determination in the past- think like Mike Leach for a second and get weird.  Some of the coaches have fun with it.  Others are just bitches.

Other times it's simply supply and demand, and what day you want the venue...

Abilene High had an issue with a metroplex school being horsey about a neutral site about 15-ish years ago. It was rather silly because Abilene was going to name the score and everyone knew it. So Coach Warren said fine, we’ll flip home and home for it. Coach Warren then designated Grande in Midland as Abilene’s home stadium for the coon flip. The other team quickly conceded to a neutral site. I’m pretty sure Yenzer did something similar around that same time frame against Trinity or SLC?? Damn it’s hell getting old and trying to remember shit.

My understanding has always been two questions to the AD's - home and home or neutral?  Don't agree, flip it.  Then if it's home and home, flip for that.

I’ve never fully understood how that shit works. In 2022 Aledo had to play Midlothian at Midlothian in the third round. Then in 23 I was expecting (I very well could have been wrong) Aledo to get Midlothian at home that same round if both teams made it, except Aledo wound playing Red Oak at Choctaw. Makes no sense.

Bubba is fuckin awesome. Spend time with him 4-5 times a year for the last 22 years. His mom Julaine (not Juliane as the article spells it) mans the grill at Schroeder’s while Bubba shoots pool and sings Amarillo by Morning. He keeps the fridge stocked with lone star light, too.

My senior year at Weslaco, we were matched up against SA Madison in the third round. My coach wanted home/home, the other coach wanted a neutral site. So they flipped. My coach won.

So now they need to decide whose  home to play at. So they flip again. My coach won, so they had to drive the 4 hours down to the RGV.

Now... Their coach wanted to play Friday night and my coach, probably just because he enjoys being stubborn and difficult, decided that he wanted to play Saturday afternoon. So they flip again. We played on Saturday afternoon.

Back when and then, Pilot Point and Tidehaven went 0-0 on a cold night in Belton for the 2A title.  Penetrations didn't count towards the win, so it was a tie.  Coin flip decided which school got the gold trophy, but silver medals for the players. We got the silver trophy and gold medals.  Looking back, we were all winners.

That game is what sold me on Mishak having potential as a college player. Madison had a lot of talent and he tore them up even in the loss. I believe his only time ever playing a non-valley school too.

Martins Mill and Lipan are small schools that beat much bigger schools yearly.  But those places pretty much do basketball year round.

That's got to be the biggest discrepancy in enrollment to ever play in Texas High School history, much less have the small school win.

Guess what-  kids that play basketball at 6A schools generally play only that sport year round as well.

Nazareth girls hoops through the years would play anyone willing to schedule them.

It happens in volleyball too.

This correct.  They also do this on the Monday of the prior week (10-11 days before) with all four possible teams and matchups.

It's funny, Plano West lists their enrollment as around 2,600, but everyone knows that's only for Juniors and Seniors.  Plano has several high schools devoted only to 9th and 10th grade.

Plano West's snapshot number is 4914.

For UIL classification purposes all 9th-12th graders are counted.

Yeah, after playoff wins our coach would sometimes announce the next week's site right in the postgame team/fans huddle.

How the hell do you have home and home for one game?

never mind. If you fuckers had said first question is do we play at one team’s site or a neutral site it would have been clear.

Why do I think Greg has never heard about the exploits of Snook basketball back in the day.

No bigger school that had a basketball coach with a clue wanted any part of the Blue Jays.

Marty Middleton, that you?

The talk about venue selection used to be even crazier in playoff baseball.  Until last few years at 5A or 6A, baseball playoffs could be 1 game winner take all or 3 game series.  The UIL has since changed the rules,  so all playoffs at those levels are best of 3 (except the final, which is still kind of odd when you think about it).

Used to be a lot of horse trading over agreeing to 1 game, which an overmatched squad that had one good/great pitcher would of course prefer, vs the 3 game series that the better overall team wanted.  All of that then threaded through the whole "where we playing these game(s)" conversation.

You said to ignore the first round.

After that when people say "home and home" it's Team A's pick of a neutral site and if they rematch within 2 seasons( 3 years total) Team B gets their pick of the "neutral site." It is not generally their home field.

Actually, the rules are pretty fucking fair on site determination.

If you think the UIL rules are bad, wait until you get exposed to a pissed off district committee voting on player eligibility.
