August 5Aug 5 I think the Weird Al movie is probably the funniest in the last 10 years, but it's not exactly quotable.

August 6Aug 6 I am shocked Helo doesn't know the greatness of Detroiters. Put Veep on the list if it isn't already.
August 6Aug 6 If we are talking tv shows then it is What We Do In the Shadows, Veep, and Always Sunny.

I feel bad because people like you rave about it and it confuses me because it was one of the worst 45 minutes I’ve ever wasted. How should I watch that movie and “get it”? Well I say this about any movie and I think it will always hold true. We all like different movies and sometimes a movie that can be pretty popular may just fall flat with one of us. I said I did not enjoy the Superman movies I saw growing up and I know that some people found that to be odd. The only way I can say that might help you connect with the movie is to think that you're seeing a Polynesian Jew playing Hitler and that much of the movie revolves around the imagination of a child. I watched it from that perspective. I know I mentioned this years ago in the thread about the movie and that I got to hear Taika Waititi speak about the movie. AMC had this thing on opening night and it had some screenings at the UWS location by Lincoln Square with a sign saying Q&A. I asked about it and was told that someone associated with the movie would come out and talk about it after it was done. They had a screening the next morning for a Q&A of the movie so I got really lucky and the AMC app finally showed an open seat for it in the front row. At the end of the movie we are all surprised to see that it was Taika who came out to answer questions for 30 minutes. One random guy yelled out "Heil Hitler" (Recurring theme in the movie, especially with the Heil Hitlering scene later on in the movie with Stephen Merchant playing an SS agent) and Taika's like "Wasn't expecting that this morning!" I still have 15 minutes of video on my phone I took from that. He explained that he did the movie to warn about nazis and that they were again on the rise and that he was, in his words, "I should have to be making a movie warning people about nazis 75 f****** years later, but here we are." Again not everyone likes every movie and I think that's normal. This one just really hit home with me for several reasons, especially because my Oma was six years old when that idiot came to power and she turned 18 in January of 45 while her country was being destroyed. Just watching it through the eyes of a child who knows nothing else, but hate yet finds a way to change in the midst of unimaginable sadness perhaps makes it hit home more.
August 6Aug 6 Since there are clearly no comedy movies in the past decade that are quotable and few even memorable, television shows is all we have. Although, I loved Derry Girls, I can't think of any memorable quotes. I am more likely to imitate Nandor than drop a memorable quote. Reservation Dogs - skoden Ted Lasso - whistle, . . . WHISTLE

But the endlessly quotable comedy is dead. #getoffmylawn

Because our data is extremely out of date. Because we are old. And we have no idea what the youths like or watch.
August 6Aug 6 The other problem is with infinite things to watch, we don’t all own the same VHS/DVDs that we wear out.

August 6Aug 6 Interesting topic, can't think of any movies from last 10-15 years I quote. I remember in late teens/early 20s, I could show up to any of my friends' apartments and one of 3 movies was usually on and we quoted constantly. 1. Half Baked 2. Dazed & Confused 3. Super Troopers
August 6Aug 6 It's What We Do in the Shadows for both movie and TV series. The movie I think was 2014 so barely over a decade. My teen daughter and I say "well that's how we all speak in Tucson, Arizonia" every now and then. Then the LetterKenny show, but that's very Canadian specific and I'm more interested in short clips of gags than watching the whole show. Other than that the new Naked Gun kind of stands alone. I hope it makes a ton of money and starts a legit comedy movie revival.

August 6Aug 6 Thread's been up a full day and not one of us can name a single quotable comedy made in the last decade? For comparison, 1984 alone gave us Ghostbusters, Beverly Hills Cop, Police Academy, Revenge of the Nerds, Splash, Spinal Tap, and Top Secret. For starters.

August 6Aug 6 literally an hour ago i said, “oh i used to be a piece of shit; slicked back hair, itty bitty jeans, sloppy steaks at trufani’s…”. i know that’s not the exact quote, but close enough lol. ITYSL is the most quotable show i’ve seen in a very long time. other examples of the top of my head: ”im joking. i’mmmmmm joking.” from the same sketch: “gimme dat.” any time i get frustrated about anything: “I CAN’T KNOW HOW TO TALK ANY MORE ABOUT TABLES.” “it doesn’t matter cuz they got no souls.” ”do any of these little fuckers ever…” like two days ago someone was talking about how much this football player weighs and i said, “you must be at least 60 lbs to buy a tammy craps.” i doubt in even getting most of these quotes correct, but i use them all the time.
August 6Aug 6 i quote it constatnly as well but never hear anyone else quoting it. my wife just rolls her eyes at this point.
