quick turnaround trip, one night in San Antonio Sunday before flying home to Denver.

airport side of town, need texmex 🤤... specifically enchiladas... more specifically, EyM caliber cheese enchiladas with chili con carne...

one shot to get it right lol 😜

please help?? por favor! 😊

Everything here is closed on sunday at that time, so best bet is one of the taqueria datapoint or mama Margie’s locations. Las Palapas is a chain and solid too. They’re all better than the gringo slop in that picture.

I would go with La Fonda on 410 behind the Magic Time Machine (i.e., not the La Fonda on N. Main). And the walk over to the Mine Shaft for a drink after.

the "Mine Shaft"?  You're sending him to a gay bar, aren't you?

Wait.  Magic Time Machine is still a thing?  You've got to be shitting me!  If I go there and they're busy, can I head on over to UR Cooks instead?

Soluna and Paloma Blanca, both on Broadway have good enchiladas. I prefer different types but the cheese enchiladas are solid at both. The Chispa at Soluna is a great drink.

La Fonda Alamo Heights is a good option but the food quality is not as good as either Soluna or Paloma Blanca

Yes, it's still a thing and the food is horrible. The Mine Shaft is the bar in the back of the Magic Time Machine. It shares the back parking lot with La Fonda and has its own entrance. It's not a great bar by any stretch, but it ain't terrible either. It's always fun to throw back some beers while Captain Jack Sparrow or Dora the Explorer bring their table's drink orders over.

Soluna and Paloma Blanca are definitely better quality / higher end. If you want to go with chicken enchiladas with poblano cream sauce or something a little more exotic, then either of those are better calls for sure. But I think La Fonda as more of an old school tex mex cheese enchiladas, rice y beans place.

The best food in San Antonio is at Taco Palenque.

Yeah, I used reader mode on my iPad to bypass it.

This is a good rec. close to the airport too

I would also consider La Fogata.  Get a margarita and enjoy the atmosphere. Not as close to the airport but not too far. ~ 10 minute drive.

As mentioned, Paloma Blanca is a great spot. But a little more upscale dining than it sounded like OP was looking for.

Got this pushed to me after googling a couple of the places in this thread. No idea how accurate it is, but it is a list.

https://www.expressnews.com/projects/restaurants/best-cheese-enchiladas-san-antonio-2025/

okay there are at least four on that list that are 🤤 and exactly what we want... none of which are open Sunday evening. which holy shit im pretty sure means Helo was correct about something lol

anyways i think La Fonda is indeed the winner, gracias! 🤘

Headed to San Antonio for the Paul McCartney concert this Saturday night. Was trying to find a good place to eat that was very close to the Alamodome so I could shorten my uber needs. Currently booked at Anaqua Garden Bar. Any thoughts on this place? Other places close you would recommend instead?25009b0fe55b7738eb1ead3d5fe64aac.jpg
