August 8Aug 8 Popular Post RIP to a legend. Interesting note, in the "Apollo 13" movie, the actual Lovell played the aircraft carrier captain shaking the actor Lovell's (Hanks) hand.
August 9Aug 9 Fucking badass. Just a few days ago somebody asked on the Movie/TV board what movies are atop-downs when you roll across them and Apollo 13 is my #1. It sucks me in every time.
August 9Aug 9 That line his mom says about her Jimmy being able to to land a washing machine if they could get one to fly gives me chills every time.
August 9Aug 9 Popular Post He lived in Horseshoe Bay late in life, on the lighthouse peninsula. The stained glass above this doorway were epic. Truly a legend.
August 10Aug 10 He was my grandmother’s neighbor at Horseshoe Bay. By far the most likable guy of that group running around out there.

August 10Aug 10 Popular Post My dad got to know Captain Lovell through a naval aviation organization. A few years ago, my son had to do a report on a famous American (4th grade) and I suggested that he do his report on Lovell. My dad volunteered to reach out and see if he would answer a few questions for my son. He ended up spending about an hour on a FaceTime call with my son answering all of his questions. I got to sit in and help with the questions. He extremely generous with his time and extremely sharp for being 92. My son still talks about how cool the experience was, and it’s something that he’ll remember for ever. Godspeed, Captain Lovell
