Hi UT Tennis Fan,

We are now just two weeks away from the start of classes and training, so I figured I would check in with a little update on all things Texas Men's Tennis! First of all, Lloyd Glasspool is tearing up the ATP doubles tour, winning his last 4 tournaments including Wimbledon and the Masters Series in Toronto last week. Lloyd is now up to #3 in the world in doubles. Speaking of doubles, Cleeve Harper has made excellent progress in year #1 on tour, and is now up to #90 in the world. Eliot Spizzirri is up to #120 in singles, and will be playing the US Open in a few weeks. Eliot has a chance at a main draw wildcard, but otherwise will have to earn his spot through qualifying. Congratulations are also in order for Lucas Brown, who today won the ITA Summer Championships in Memphis. Lucas has put in some great work this summer, and it is showing! With the win, Lucas earns a main draw wildcard into the ITA All American Championships in Tulsa in a little over a month from now. And finally, we have added a new player to our roster. Lucas Marionneau, from France, will be joining us as a freshman.

I will be back in touch again soon, as soon as I have more to update you on. Until then, enjoy what is left of your summer, and Hook'em!

Sincerely,

Bruce Berque

Hi UT Tennis Fan,

Yesterday Lloyd Glasspool became the first Longhorn to reach the #1 ranking in the world. Amazing accomplishment for the 2015 NCAA Doubles Champion (with Soren Hess-Olesen). For all the details, please click on this press release. In other professional tennis news, 2024 graduate Eliot Spizzirri has been awarded a main draw singles wildcard at next week's US Open. Speaking of the Open, Cleeve Harper has earned a direct acceptance into the doubles draw, and will make his Grand Slam debut!

School starts up again next week, and all of our players are either on campus training now, or getting ready to return to Austin. We will be back in touch again shortly, when we have more to update you on. Until next time, Hook'em!

Sincerely,

Bruce Berque

I said in the other thread that it’s not up to Timo. NCAA ruled him ineligible, but Texas was working on a protest

I will never understand, and I am sure the NCAA doesn't either, how they handle foreign players and how much eligibility they get.

Gorzny is now guaranteed and spot at the NCAA Tennis Singles, Doubles Championships in Orlando in November.

Looks like Gorzny pulls out of his quarterfinals match due to an injury. However, he's still scheduled to play doubles later this afternoon. Probably resting to focus on doubles to ensure a trip to the NCAA's in doubles.

FAA won in straight sets, but Spizzirri did keep the second set competitive. Hes right on the cusp of being directly accepted into the Australian Open, and a couple of good results between now and  the AO should get him there

Hi UT Tennis Fan,

It has been several weeks since my last update, so I have a few things to catch you up on regarding Longhorns past, present, and future!

As you know, several former Longhorns are competing full time on the ATP tour. I will continue to update you as they achieve special results, and reach career milestones. One of those milestones was achieved today, as Eliot Spizzirri cracked the ATP top 100 by advancing to the quarterfinals of the Brest (France) $100k Challenger. Reaching the top 100 in just a year and a half since leaving college is truly an amazing accomplishment, and we all know how hard Eliot has worked for it! Last week, Eliot qualified for, and reached the quarterfinals of the ATP $250k tour event in Brussels, his best finish yet in an ATP tour event. And two weeks before that Eliot won a 100k Challenger in China!

As for our current squad, we now have two players qualified for the NCAA Individual Championship in November. Sebastian Gorzny did so by reaching the quarterfinals of the ITA All American Championships, while Sebastian Eriksson just yesterday reached the singles final of the ITA Texas Regional in College Station. The final was not played since both finalists qualified for the NCAA's. Also in College Station, Jonah Braswell and Evan Burnett reached the doubles semifinal, and Lucas Marionneau reached the singles quarterfinal. This week, Sebastian Gorzny is playing a $25k futures in Norman (he won his first round match today), and next week several of our players will head south to Harlingen for another $25k futures.

As for future Longhorns, we were happy to announce a few weeks ago that Kalin Ivanovski and Abel Forger will be joining our team this coming January. Kalin and Abel are both exceptional players that will be difference makers for our lineup. For all the details of their signing, please click on this press release. We also plan to announce the signing of at least one more player during the November signing period.

Until next time, Hook'em!

Sincerely,

Bruce Berque

Hi UT Tennis Fan,

I am writing from Orlando, and the USTA National Campus where Sebastian Eriksson and Sebastian Gorzny begin singles play in the NCAA tournament this morning (Tuesday) at 9 am eastern time. Live scoring is available here, and live video is available on ESPN Plus. You can also click on this press release for a full preview of the NCAA Individual Tournament.

Back in Austin 4 of our players (Jonah Braswell, Evan Burnett, Mariano Dedura-Palomero, and Lucas Marionneau) are competing in the Austin $25k futures event at the Austin Tennis Academy. Longhorn great Micah Braswell is also competing. For schedules of play and draws, please click here.

In news of former Longhorns, congratulations to Eliot Spizzirri for finishing 2025 ranked #91 in the ATP World Singles Rankings, good enough for main draw entry into the Australian Open in early 2026! And a special congratulations to Lloyd Glasspool for finishing the year ranked #1 in the world in the ATP World Doubles Rankings, truly an amazing accomplishment! Here is a nice press release about Lloyd's special year!

In news of future Longhorns, we are happy to have announced the addition of Jeremiah Braswell. Jeremiah will join the team in January and redshirt for his first semester. As you know his older brother Micah graduated from our program in 2024, and Jonah is currently a senior on the team. Please click here for more information on Jeremiah's signing.

Have a great rest of your week, and of course I hope you enjoy Thanksgiving with your family. All the best, and Hook'em!

Sincerely,

Bruce Berque

Erikkson and Gorzny both lost their singles matches in the 2nd round today at the NCAAs which concluded the fall season for Texas. If Timo is ineligible it feels like this team will have a low ceiling in the fall. I think Mississippi State has the best team in the SEC

I'm here now. Erikkson played the defending Singles champ from last year. Erikkson had opportunities to go up a break in the 1st set but couldn't convert. He was up a break in the 2nd but couldn't hold it. Erikkson has been a nice surprise this Fall.

Gorzny had chances to break serve in the 3rd but couldn't convert. His opponent is solid.

I'm curious on how Kalin and Abel will fit in. Kalin looks like a great pick up looking at his Instagram postings.

I watched their matches on ESPN+

Wild that Zheng was unseeded despite being the defending champ.

Jodar at UVA would easily win this event if he competed, but being a foreign player there’s not much benefit in competing. It’s a sham by the NCAA that he’s eligible next season but Timo isn’t.

Happy New Year UT Tennis Fan!

Our team is back on campus, and training for the opening match of the 2026 dual match season, which will be vs Abilene Christian at 1 pm this coming Saturday, January 10 at the Texas Tennis Center. Our 2nd match will be on Wednesday, January 14 vs Incarnate Word. Then we have two massive home matches - Virginia at 12:30 pm on January 18, and defending national champion Wake Forest at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, January 21. The Virginia match is scheduled to be played outside at the Texas Tennis Center (depending on weather), while the Wake Forest match will be indoors at the Weller Tennis Center in Steiner Ranch. We are planning some special promotions for both the UVA and Wake Forest matches so please mark your calendars now.

We are looking forward to another great year, and hope we can count on your continued support! See you at the courts on Saturday. All the best, and Hook'em!

Sincerely,

Bruce Berque

That seems a bit high, especially with no Timo this season, but we’ll see how it plays out. Virginia and Wake Forest will quickly give us a barometer of where the team is at

Hi UT Tennis Fan,

We had a successful season opening match against ACU at the Weller Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday (full recap).  Although we were missing several likely starters from our lineup, we played very well top to bottom, and were able to get 3 freshmen their first dual match experience.

This will be a big week for us.  We play Incarnate Word at 3 pm on Wednesday outside at the Texas Tennis Center, and then Virginia at 12:30 pm on Sunday (also outside at the Texas Tennis Center).  That will be a top 5 match up, as we are currently ranked #2, and Virginia #5.  If you are in town, we need you (and all your friends) out in full force to set the tone for the kind of home support we will need this year.  Rally the troops and show up early at the TTC on Sunday!  If you do get there early, you will be able to watch our women's team take on Pepperdine on the south courts.  The women are scheduled to start at 10 am, and we will kick things off at 12:30 pm.  Hope to see you Wednesday, and especially on Sunday!

In news of Longhorns on tour, action is heating up down under.  Eliot Spizzirri (currently ATP #83 in the live rankings) is currently in the 2nd round of the main draw in the ATP $250k in Auckland.  He won 3 matches in straight sets over ATP top 100 players (2 in qualifying and 1 in the main draw).  Eliot will be in the main draw of the Australian Open next.  Cleeve Harper represented Canada in the United Cup, and current #1 in the world in doubles Lloyd Glasspool reached the final last week in Brisbane, and is currently in the 2nd round in Adelaide.  Good luck 'horns!

Have a great week, and Hook'em!

Sincerely,

Bruce Berque

Not a great sign when our #1 guy loses to Incarnate Word in straight sets. I watched the match and the team looks.....rusty.

Virginia and Wake Forest will tell us what kind of team we have this year.
edit: Hopefully Jodar for Virginia wins his Australian Open qualifying match tomorrow. If he wins, he definitely won't be able to play the match against Texas on Sunday

Texas' #1 player today is probably a line #3 or #4 when against tougher competition. IMO anyways.

Jodar has already announced he's turning pro so he's not coming back to Virginia.

This Texas team will be fine throughout the season and is still a contender to win it all.
